puresleep
Re: puresleep
Hi,
Just wanted to give everyone an update on using Puresleep. As I posted 6 weeks ago, I have been using a cpap machine for 8 years. It died on me 6 weeks ago while on a business trip, forcing me to tie a pillow to my back to help prevent me from sleeping on my back. When I returned home, I stuffed 3 tennis balls in a sock, pinned it to the back of a t-shirt, saw puresleep on tv, googled apnea and puresleep, found this site and posted my thoughts and questions about puresleep, then went ahead and ordered it. I dealt with the sore throats and waking up multiple times each night using the tennis balls.
I started using puresleep about 3 weeks ago, in combination with the tennis balls. It's working for me. I'm not waking up in the middle of the night (my longest apnea was 1.5 minutes during my test) and no sore throat in the morning. No complaints about snoring either. I went away this past weekend and forgot my sock full of tennis balls, but I had no problems, and haven't used the balls these past two night at home either. So far so good.
Downside:
My teeth ache a bit in the morning. This goes away within 15 minutes of removing the mouthpiece, but I wonder if there will be any long term affect. You can put the mouthpiece in hot water and remold it, which I think I will do to see if I can shape it into a more comfortable fit.
I want to research the type of plastic it is made out of and make sure there are no carcinogens or other toxins in it that may seep out.
I am also interested in learning more about what Dr. Shapiro had mentioned: "The problem with Puresleep is that you do not know if apnea is treated or if a slient apneic is created". I don't know what silent apneic is, so I need to do more research on that. Thank you Dr. Shapiro for mentioning that.
Overall, I'm happy with it (as long as the above research items doesn't come back bad!).
To answer a question in the thread about weight. When I was first diagnosed with apnea, the doc said he didn't think it was weight related. Yes, I was 30 pounds overweight, but I guess I carry it well! He talked about possible surgery (tonsils and uvula removed, throat scratched to promote scarring and tightening), which my regular doc and I didn't like the sounds of; so I just used the machine. Then I went through a divorce and lost 40 pounds. I no longer needed the cpap. It was a weight issue after all. I'm 5' 7" and weighed 205. I am back to 205 again. I noticed on my way back up the scale, that 190 was the magic number for me. As soon as I hit 190, I needed to start using the machine again. Bottom line for me, lose the weight and lose the cpap and/or puresleep. And that's what I am working on now, using the mouthpiece as a transition.
I'll update you again after I do some more research. If anyone knows about "silent apneic" or what the puresleep mouthpiece is made of, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Ken

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

What is that supposed to mean? You going to start calling names again?

I love this and would pay a lot more for it. I have had two throat procedures and neither worked. My husband has been sleeping in another bedroom most nights. I ordered Puresleep without telling him, wore it the first night and he commented the next morning that I was so quiet. I showed him the device and he was shocked. I have been using it for two weeks and he said he has fallen in love with me again. Best $70 I have ever spent!
Re: Puresleep
OK. So your snoring has stopped? That may not be good. Snoring is often a warning that you have sleep apnea. How do you know that sleep apnea is not now silently destroying your health?Dervin wrote:I love this and would pay a lot more for it. I have had two throat procedures and neither worked. OK - I'm a guest. However, if you Google my username you will find links to my real name, job, and contact information. So if anyone calls me a spammer, they're a damn idiot.
So does this damn PureSleep thing do anything for snoring or not?

Re: puresleep
I find it amazing that you ask that question here, a site dedicated to cpap, instead of at a site where you can find many users of the device you are interested in - or in other excellent dental devices for that matter.OK - I'm a guest. I also find it amazing that you did not undestand the point about "silent apnea". "Apnea" means non-breathing - that may effect the amount of oxygen your brain gets; Too little oxygen to your brain, and your brains cells malfunction. "Silent Apnea" means you're choking silently.
Lack of oxygen to the brain is a direct result of not breathing properly - a problem that can happen to some people even when they use a device that keeps them from snoring. People with too little oxygen in their brain often behave like damn idiots, and have problems finiding the info they need. You could google "dental sleep medicine" but I'll help you:
For some people in some case, dental medicine is an excellent solution. For anyone interested in dental alternatives to cpap, here's link to the Talk About Sleep: Dental Sleep Medicine message board http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/message-b ... m.php?f=10. There are smart people there who will discuss the subject of dental devices resposibly and helpfully.

Re: puresleep
Ditto O. One of your best.
PeteJayhawk,
I give you credit for being concerned about your snoring. I hope you will be screened for sleep apnea and seriously consider a sleep study.
As some researchers have learned, even snoring without sleep apnea or UARS can cause a gradual decline in cognitive function including a decline in memory skills. Treat it or eventually become a Damn Idiot like me who went much too long before receiving treatment.

Re: puresleep
I posted for the first time a few weeks back and now can't even get past page 5 for some reason. Anyway I developed a sinus problem that I never had before. Turned up on a CAT scan in the ER. I reported a headache and I guess I have sphenoid sinus disease. Pain behind my eyes for several days but unusual that I don't have drainage or fever. Anyway I'm still dead tired every morning from cpap after 10mos or so. Ordered the puresleep and finally got it today after shipping delays due to snow and floods in the NW. I don't even know if this post will work or get canned as spam but I was wondering about the fitting but the tech support is closed this late. They say to fit with your jaw as far forward as comfortable. Well crap, that doesn't help, it's all uncomfortable. I'm going to try just overlapping my bottom teeth in front of my top teeth and hope that's enough. That and stupid antibiotics should help clear my head.
I'm a little upset with my cpap salesman. He never told me to wash out the humidifier resevoir and it was pretty slimmy when I checked today. Maybe that's why I've got a sinus infection, not sure but I'm going (try) stop using it until I know more. I'll try the puresleep device over the weekend and hopefully get one of those finger oxygen tests early next week. If you wonder about me I'm Wingnut at Cracksmokingmonkeys.net, not a puresleep shill.

Re: puresleep
Ok, I can relax a little, my post and fitting worked, sort of. Also I was able to download Windows 7 in the background and was afraid I'd corrupt it at 95% or something but I digress. I didn't mention I had the amazon version of anti-snore and should of read those directions first. It answered my bite question with a more info and bite illustration. The key was to line up your teeth "like biting on corn" as they put it. I think I did that, it's hard to tell with all the stuff in your mouth and my teeth really felt uneven. I fitted both twice since it just didn't feel right but now I think I can live with the antisnore. But I guess the test is how I'll feel in the next few days. Maybe I'll report back then, I haven't seen a lot of support around here for these.
Anyway to make a long story short, I prefer the simpler and cheaper anti-snore so far but haven't slept with it. Just reporting I couldn't even close my mouth with the puresleep, not acceptable. It was too big or I did something wrong. I was desperate for something so I ordered the amazon one first then decided I wanted the "real" device with all the hype an hour later. The puresleep might be better quality and last longer but the cheap one is more comfy.I don't want to write a review just comparing and I really hope it works.

Re: puresleep
Wow, I'm surprised to see this thread still alive, I haven't checked on it in forever.
I apologize if any of my posts (months ago now) about trying Puresleep were perceived as participating in shilling for the company; I assure you they were not. I was sincerely trying to find a solution for snoring (I'm sure I'm alone on that ) without resorting to CPAP.
I tried to use the Puresleep device for a few days; the jaw pain got progressively and dramatically worse, to the point where by the 4th day I couldn't eat for nearly the whole day.
Long story short, I had my 3rd sleep study last night, this time specifically to fit CPAP. I guess I've got the next couple of weeks to get up to speed on equipment choices. It seems daunting.

Re: puresleep
have been on CPAP for 2+ years and just starting to lose it with TSA everytime I travel looking over my machine. I just tried puresleep the last 2 nights. first night was actually pretty good and my wife said I did not make a peep. Last night felt worse and felt like teeth were comingout of lower portin of the device (and therefore moving back into my throat and causing the apnea).
2 question:
1) has anyone with the Puresleep device gone back and done a sleep test with the device?
2) in my last test 3 years ago, I had 62 Apnea/Hypopnea events per hour with hypopnea events outweighin apnea bby 2 to 1. Would dental device, in theory, address hypopnea?
Thanks

Re: puresleep
I am presently using a resmed cpap and absolutely hate wearing, this my doctor has it set at 8 i believe. So basically I have a low level of sleep apnea according to the doctor. I cannot stand any of the masks that I have been given, the nasal pillows are the best for me but I cannot stand even these. I just want to know if the puresleep actually helps with snoring for my wife's sake. I know I am a guest and I know most of your opinions on guest. All I want to know is does the puresleep actually help with snoring. I dont care about its affects on apnea I just wanna stop snoring. ANYONE? thats not a guest have an answer?
Re: puresleep
I bought Puresleep for my husband. His snorring is so bad that I have to sleep with earplugs in. Often I could still hear him snor even with the earplugs in. He has been wearing Puresleep nightly. It has NOT stopped his snorring, only quieted it.
Re: puresleep
I know people have said this is similar to the TAP. My ENT recommended I see a specialist about the TAP, since I have extremely mild Apnea (bacially none at all), but snore like crazy. The TAP specialist said I would be perfect for it as well. I'm waiting on insurance clearance, since the TAP will cost $1800!!! So for a $70 alternative if insurance doesn't cover it, it's worth a try, no? (Or $38 for the Amazon device?)
