I would like to get rid of this mustache bandage and smell what I am eating. Those of you who have gone through this, is it likely to start bleeding again after the splints are pulled out?
Mine didn't, but they were in a full week. Good luck...sounds too soon to me. You ought to REALLY take it easy this weekend. No bending over and no lifting....but what do I know....LOL.
JeffH,
What was that like getting them pulled out? Right now I feel like if someone pulled them out I would pass out from the pain. Not that I am in pain now, but I feel like it is going to take a couple of big tugs to get them out.

Mine didn't eighter.... but the splints stayed in for a week.
They also told me to avoid heavy lifting for a month becasue it could cause bleeding to occur. I admitted didn't wait, but it didn't casue any bleeding
As for pain in having the splints removed, mine pulled right out. Nothing to it. The ENT acted like it was going to be a BIG deal but it wasn't. I had nothing to "numb" my nose either.

Rooster, have the Doctor spray something in your nose (and alot of it) and even a spray of something to numb your nose before he takes those suckers out! Also, you might think about taking a Vicodin or even a 1/2 of one 30 minutes prior to your Doctor Appointment. My Grandson's said it was kind of painful as there was alot of blood and stuff stuck under & all around it so ask Doc if he can do a soaking wet spraying in your nostrils before starting and then a numbing spray! That will, in my opinion make all the difference in the world and also help to elimate alot of the uneccesary bleeding! Let us know & Best of Luck!

I'm pretty sure there are a couple of stitches holding them in. I wasn't a big deal getting them out, but then again, my nose had four more days to heal than yours has.
You will breathe like you have never breathed before.
About a third of all deviated septum's happen during birth, FWIW.

Yep.... there are two stiches that are placed through the holes. They cut the stich and it pulls right out.... or at least mine did.

Dear, I have felt some soreness in there and have assumed it is from dryness caused by mouth breathing. Off to bed for now. Sweet dreams.

I better had. It was supose to be part of the procedure.
"Septo-rhinoplasty with turbinate reduction"
I know for sure they removed bone tissue because there was a charge for pathology and a report from pathologist. [They take ANYTHING out these days, it goes to pathology.]

My nose was just a crooked off to one side....
(had to get that fixed for those "stright on" TV shots )
They went ahead and did the rhinoplasty because of that. It was kind of UP in the air as IF insurance would cover the rhinoplasty part of the procedure..... ENT said I could pay for that part myself if I wanted to... he said it wouldn't be much.... in the end insurance paid for it anyway.

Rooster,
I'm so glad to hear everything went well. I've been lying low lately and didn't know this surgery had already come up. I had the traditional packing when I had the same surgery last year. I had no idea having it out would hurt and was already off the pain meds when they did it. Big mistake. I almost passed out. And I bled like you wouldn't believe.
Make sure you take a pain med before you go have the splints out. And if you are prone to anxiety take something for that too.
Then I had to go back a week or so after that to have ths scabs pulled out. That time i took pain and antianxiety medicine but I still had to sit in the waiting room afterwards for a half hour before I could let my Mom drive me home. She said I was white as a sheet.
Then months later I found out about these little miracles called splints! I sure wish my doc had used them! Sounds like the recovery is much easier. And come on, those splints are going to slide right out! It isn't like guaze being matted into the wounds and saturated with dried blood! And I doubt you will even have any scabs to take out. Your experience with it sounds far superior to mine--and it will be well worth it!
Glad to hear you are doing so well! And even able to use cpap? Amazing. I'm sure your recovery is speedy because of it.
Keep resting and I wouldn't go back to work so soon if you can avoid it. I'd take Jeff's advice here.

Well just three days and the doc pulled the splints out this morning. He shot each nostril with a pressurized container of Afrin and an anesthetic.
There was one stitch which was looped from the splint in one nostril, through the septum and then into the splint in the other nostril. So he sticks the tip of a pair of scissors just into my nose and clips the stitch and pulls it out. That was a little more than ticklish. Then each of the splints came out fairly easily one at a time.
Now there was some sharp pain but it was only for a few seconds.
There is definitely more air flowing throw my nostrils than before the surgery, but I did not get that feeling of a rush of air that others have experienced. The doc said the turbinates are still swollen and will shrink over the next seven days.
The doc wants me to use the F&P432 traditional face mask for another week before returning to the Hybrid. He thinks the nasal pillows on the Hybrid might force enough air over my turbinates to keep the swelling from going away quickly.
I felt so good after the procedure that wifey and I ran a few shopping errands and had a nice lunch out. When we arrived home I took a nice walk around our block enjoying the sun and a little leftover Carolina autumn leaf color.
I am anxious now for all of this to heal so I can start experimenting with masks and pressures.
I also sent an email to the office telling them I will be in Monday morning. .
