It's kinda silly really, but it works for me. I'm no spring chicken - thus the 'old' part. I'm here in Virginia. And, my hobby is amateur radio, (i.e., "ham" radio). Hence, the "OldVaHam."

Love the thread by the way.

handle

Post by Catnapper » Fri Jun 08, 2007 8:28 am

A catnap is to sleep lightly for a short period of time. That also describes how I sleep at night. So, I am the Catnapper.

I looked online for an avatar, and found the napping cat. Seemed right, so there it is.

My daughter used to wake me up at night by tiptoeing into the room and looking at me. Powerful child! Woke me up every time.

I'm a Cowboy Action Shooter and when you join the Single Action Shooting Society (that's right - SASS) you have to take a shooting alias. Mine is Tiberius Wolf. Tiberius because I love the movie Lonsome Dove and Robert Duvall's character Augustus McCrae. There were already a bunch of Augustus's out there so I went with a different Roman Emperor. Wolf because I've always loved wolves and because my Dad was in the 104th Infantry Division in WWII and they were known as the fighting Timberwolves. Tiberius Wolf, TWolf for short.

I am actually the result of a very sophisticated genetics program. My real name is Mik. So my handle is code for Mik Em Oran(gutang). either that or I don't have a creative bone in my body.

Interesting topic!

I used to do some consulting -- mostly custom database design stuff -- and I named my company Owl Creek Information Services. My home at the time was located near a little stream called Owl Creek, so . . . .

I started using the pseudonym Owl Creek Observer for various on-line forums and newsgroups and just continued using it here.

My current avatar sort of represents my earlier military career and of course the mask and hose (apparently a WW I era gas mask design) pretty well sum up how I feel every time I "gear up" for the night.

The helmet is just a good idea around here sometimes.

I knit. I knit socks (among other things). Therefore socknitster. I also visit lots of knitting forums.

My avatar is me playing with some sheep at a small sheep farm some years ago. Unfortunately had to crop the sheep out. Love sheep. Love wool. Love knitting. Very soothing and productive pastime. Jen

Mine is pretty self explanatory.....I'm "tired of being sleepy"! I'm not very original!

(If someone would PM how to post an avator under my user name, I would appreciate it. I tried and it didn't work....)

I grew up on a farm and my cousins from the next farm and from the city would visit often. We had great fun with unsupervised play (pity today's kids with everything organized - maybe that's why they took to computer games -> no adult supervision).

We played cowboys and Indians (politically incorrect!), cowpasture baseball and football, basketball on a sand court, Royal Russian Housetop Brittle, war games outdoors, bicycles and much more.

I loved it and was always wanting to make the decision on what to play next and enforcing the rules to keep the fun going. My older cousins from the next farm started to call me Rooster because I was always running around the farm crowing to keep the games going.

When I was in college, I was in a school sponsored club. The club pretty much broke down when the president made it clear that after being elected, he only did it to use the club meeting space as his personal smoking lounge, and if we didn't like it, we could over throw him.

I went to the department of Student Life, and wrote up a new officers list with myself as President, and got the faculty advisors to sign off by telling them what happened.

After conducting this successful coup, my nickname became Jefe. It was a pretty easy leap with my name being Jeff. On forums where Jefe is taken, I am Lord_Jefe, due to my fascination with Darth Vader from my childhood years.

I've seen you! And yes, my husband and I laughed the rest of the way home.

It was just a couple weeks ago. Your car is red, right? It was on our way home from work. I know we were eastbound but I forget what street, maybe Menaul. We said we agree with you because it's been raining so much lately and we moved here from the East Coast partly for the sunny weather.

Mine comes from my love of all things technical (I am a computer systems adminstrator) and this uber cool avatar i found of this techy looking dinosaur. The name actually came to me in a dream. techno(technical) snoreus(play on words here, snore(sleep related)us instead of saurus. I'm rambling now so I'll stop.

My name comes from a tech friend who set up my first computer way back in'91. When Packard Bell asked for my business name on the regisration, he asked what it was besides being a mother. My best friend said she's the mother of all mothers...too many letters, thus breeding "motherall" It's been one of my alter egos ever since.

lvwildcat- my boys graduated from Las Vegas High-home of the Wildcats (one in '05;other in '06) Very important to us since they both wrestled and both became Nevada State Champs!!! My little jocks!!! My CPAP hose cover is actually red with black paw prints...LVHS colors!! I attribute their wrestling as the biggest factor that kept my boys on the straight and narrow through those difficult teen years.
