Congratulations on the new house!

BTW, as far as your mouth dam, what's the red band? Is that piping on the fabric, or is it some type of rubber band you use over the fabric?

i dunno, you'd have to ask gregory. it's HIS picture!

yeah, the rig has evolved over time. that red line is indeed elastic, not a rubber band. it's yet another thing available in the hair care aisle.

there are now two of these in my kit. one goes across the top lip, the other across the bottom. this helps flatten my lips against my teeth making it harder for them to part.

May you live in the house in good health for a very, very, very long time!

I dream of a tiny house. ANYWHERE but Arizona! I lived in Hell (a.k.a.Yuma, AZ) for 7 awful months of my life I will never get back, and vowed never to set foot in that state again.

So you are living my dream!

No no you are confused. I lived in hell for 15 years of cold, dreary, yuck Northern Nevada until I finally made it back home to sunny Arizona. I will take a minimum wage job scrubbing toilets before I ever leave this state again. I will die here !

I don't see anything wrong

when i read that from jan, my FIRST thought was of you!

we are all different folk with different ways and preferences.

all i can tell you for sure is that i got out of indiana as fast as i could put a nest egg together.

I don't see anything wrong with Indiana weather, where else do you get 4 different kinds of weather a day. T.V. Weather rooms are built without windows, that they aren't allowed to look out, it will mess up their forecast. Jim

We mostly built our own house.
We bought a vacant lot and had a used office building moved onto a slab.
The building was basically a shell, so the interior had to be completely gutted,
insulated and divided, all of which we did ourselves, part time after work.
When we finished, we moved right in.
Contractors only poured the slab, and moved the house.
Another was supposed to do the plumbing rough-in, but goofed up.
They were supposed to run supply lines under the concrete, but waited until the mud was set,
wanting to run all lines in the attic--hoping to fix freeze-ups every winter)
We fired them, and ran the pipes in walls and under a raised floor.

yeah, updating this thread has been on my mind.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!

seriously, will get some more pics up. going down to "inspect the property" tomorrow and will have a better idea.

from last thursday, the rough walls are up. the "prelim" plumbing is in and awaits inspection. the electrician has in the "fuse box", the switch and electric outlet boxes and the pot light installations. right now, the construction is relying on power from the kids' house, which was the case for the building when purchased.

this week i believe a trench will be dug from the electrical pole to the house. i also think that the roof will be started or has been started this week.

windows and slider are at the property but not yet installed. also, the shower insert is there. oh and a start on the carport has begun.

i am at an absolute loss as to what to expect for it all being ready to move into. i'm hoping that this can be ready to go so that we can get in there by september.

so, i'll try to remember to take some "snaps" tomorrow, then crop and post them.

thanks for asking!

Show some pics of the area. Look like hills and mountains. I would love to retire and move out to some hills and mountains.

Contractor's rule of completion - It takes 90% of the time to finish 90% of the house. To finish the last 10% of the house takes the other 90% of the time.

We moved into our house before it was completed.
Work continued, and improvements followed as we could afford them.
We had a place to live, and owed nothing to overpriced contractors.

I hope the work goes faster on your new home than when we purchased our first house (many years ago). The actual construction work was already done. The only thing left was to stain the cabinets, install counter top, hang light fixtures, paint and flooring. They left these things undone so the eventual owner could select colors, light fixtures, etc. It took six weeks from the time we agreed to purchase until we moved in. Larger, more expensive houses down the street were being built from the ground up and people moving in before they got the finish work done on ours.
