Re: oh please say i did this right
well i feel tired but i dont know if it is becasuse i think i am getting sick. woke up today with a sore throat and fell like bluh. so do you think i should still use my cpap with a sore throat or does it matter ? and you want me to set my min to 11 for 3-4 days and see how that goes and then bump it up to 12 min for 3-4 day and leave my max at 20 right
Re: oh please say i did this right
What is your humidity setting?
Yes...we are supposed to use cpap even if we have some sort of upper respiratory infection going on. Believe it or not but using cpap could maybe even shorten the misery that comes with a cold.
If you are sick though...it will very likely mess with the overall AHI somewhat so maybe keep the new minimum of 11 until the illness symptoms have passed.
So I never really put much stock in any data that comes when people are in full blown cold or flu mode.

Re: oh please say i did this right
Thursday night....quite acceptable.
Friday night...not quite so pretty...can you think of anything that was different about last night to account for the difference?
Sleeping position difference maybe?
Do you happen to know if your OSA is worse in REM stage sleep or not? The clustering looks very suspicious for REM stage sleep.
Are you experiencing much (if any) nasal congestion?
We need more nights at these settings to see which night is going to be the trend setter. Last night might have been just a fluke.

Re: oh please say i did this right
Very nice improvement (Thursday), and like Pugsy said, go with 11 for a bit, see how you do then move it up a bit.
Looking at the clumping of your Flow Limitation and the timing of your pressure increases, it looks like your apnea is worsened by Sleep Stage (REM).
I (as well as Pugsy ), and many apnea sufferers are worse during REM, a lot of muscle tone is lost during this sleep stage. My graphs have the same bumps during rem sleep as well.
Don't be to concerned, this is one of the roles of an Auto-adjusting machine. It increases pressure when you need it more (perhaps REM sleep). And then will return back to lesser pressure as your needs change.

Re: oh please say i did this right
The flow limitation graph is a bit active but not horribly active.
He is experiencing some nasal congestion and there may be a cold coming on or maybe the humidity setting needs adjusting.
Not sure just yet what it might be but some of that FL graph activity could be related to nasal congestion so I am not going to do the knee jerk reaction of increasing the pressure just yet for the FL graph results.

Re: oh please say i did this right
could you guys please tell me what the (REM) what that means please?
Re: oh please say i did this right
REM is a sleep stage.
Google "sleep stages" and take a look at the normal hypnograms to get an idea of the normal progression of each sleep cycle.
Each sleep stage (cycle) plays an important part in the restorative powers of sleep. We need all of them in a nice normal progression and amount to have good restorative sleep.

Re: oh please say i did this right
Google "Sleep Stages" for more detail.
Sleep is not just falling asleep and staying in a single "mode" all night until we wake up.
In simple terms:
Sleep Stage 1: light sleep, very prone to waking up
Sleep Stage 2: light sleep, not as prone to waking up
Sleep Stage 3: Deep sleep, very rarely wake up, this is the really good body restoring sleep.
REM Sleep:Characterized by Rapid Eye Movement, faster breathing, loss of muscle tone..
Each stage has different characteristics and we move through out them through the night. One of the reasons Apnea is bad for us is it prevents the us from progressing through the natural stages and reduce the amount of good restorative sleep.

Re: oh please say i did this right
No, not at all. Your REM sleep is not messed up at all. In all likely-hood it's perfectly normal.Camaro1969ss wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:53 pmso you think my REM is all messed up or do you think its messed up from me having a cold
But, during REM sleep you are more prone to having more apneas and flow limitations.
My graphs show the exact same pattern.

Re: oh please say i did this right
No...I don't really think anything is wrong with your REM but it is very possible for your sleep to simply be messed up from the cold.Camaro1969ss wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:53 pmso you think my REM is all messed up or do you think its messed up from me having a cold
Since you also had a typical sore throat with the cold symptoms then I am not going to worry too much about things until all the cold symptoms have abated.
When we are ill we just can't put much faith in the data we see because it's just too easily screwed with and not representative of a typical night. Often when we are ill the AHI will be higher for various reasons.
It's normal for some people to have their OSA get worse and need more pressure in REM.
In non REM sleep stages my AHI was not quite 15....in REM it was 53.
It is what it is...not much we can do about it except treat it. We need REM and don't want to stop it anyway.

REM is Rapid Eye Movement. it's the stage of sleep when we dream.Camaro1969ss wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:53 pmso you think my REM is all messed up or do you think its messed up from me having a cold
it's erroneously thought that to have a night full of dreams means you slept well. that's not necessarily the case.
pugsy and dog seem to be having a slight difference of opinion about what this can mean. so we (meaning ME) will pipe down and see what is explained.
and i see dog slobber has followed up but i'll post this anyway!
edit: and now pugsy came in.
sometimes a guy just can't get a break.
