Several Questions

Post by golfgame » Mon Sep 09, 2019 8:12 pm

1. What is an acceptable leak rate?
2. In the Oscar report is there a way to determine Obstructive events and Central events?
3. Using the Wisp mask is there anything that can be used to make fora better fit?

1. What is an acceptable leak rate? If you are using a Resmed machine: 24l or less. To me zero is the best and I get it every night.
2. In the Oscar report is there a way to determine Obstructive events and Central events?
3. Using the Wisp mask is there anything that can be used to make fora better fit? I use the Remed F20 or the Philips Total Face Mask if I'm sick.

I have tried probably (6) different masks including the new BleepSleep system. I have prefered the nasal pillow style the best but any of the versions that go into the nostril always make the nose sore. The ones that just snug up the nose tend to always leak. The Wisp has performed the best but not perfect. It always tends to make the beginning of a sore on the bridge of the nose.

The Bleep system I have not been able to perfect. At the beginning of the night, everything is buttoned uptight with no air leaking but at some point in the night I wake and there is air leaking. I have had the bask separate several times.

I don't know if I am a mouth breather or not. Sometimes I wake and my mouth is closed. I have tried various tapes. It is not uncommon for me to wake and the cheeks are stuck tight to the gums. I have to separate them with the tongue. That seems to only happen when I am using tape!

I am now thinking about the Phillips Dreamware full face mask.

These are my averages. Sone of the events might me central, I don't know.
Bleep = 62L/min 12 events p/hr
Resmed P10 = 52L/min 6 events p/hr
Wisp = 36L/min 5 events p/hr

Which machine are you using and where are you getting those reported leak numbers from?
If from the software...which value is it?

62 L/min from a Respironics machine...ugly but not the end of the world.
62 L/min from a ResMed machine...pretty much close to the end of the world.

Where is the Bleep separating at?

Do you take any medications that might be making dry mouth worse?

Please post a typical recent night report from OSCAR...

I am using a ResMed AirCurve 10 Vauto.

I get those numbers from the MyAir report in the morning.

The Bleep separated where the Dream Ports snap on to the hose fixture. I was in contact with Stuart at Bleep numerous times. I liked his system the best but I have really had a hard time getting a 100% seal with the adhesive parts. Stuart has been most helpful. He sent me another mask that he taped up and I managed to find a Loctite glue system that would glue the two parts together. But as I said I lose the secure connection on the DreamPorts sometime during the night.

I take two meds at night, BP med and Alfuzosin HCL for prostate. Neither has given me any issues in the past.

What portions of the Oscar report do you want to see?

What mask were you using on the above night?

That's a really, really bad leak report and it takes a lot for me to call it bad.
The UAs you see flagged...the machine sensed something happened but didn't know what to call it and the leak is so bad at times that it is possible the machine couldn't even sense properly.

That looks like last night and it would have been the WISP mask

Another question
I have noticed that as the leak rate goes down the events seem to elevate, why would that happen?

Probably because the leak was so high in the first place that the machine wasn't even flagging them so it appears that the events increase as the leak goes down but in reality the events were happening but the machine was clueless in the face of the higher leak.
When the leak goes down a bit the machine can then actually sense something is happening....at the higher leak the machine couldn't sense anything happening so nothing got flagged.
Don't think that nothing was happening at those higher leaks...I am betting something was happening and the leaks were so bad that the machine couldn't tell they were happening.

Any suggestions for eliminating leaks? I really would like to be able to use Bleep but as I said initially when applying the ports there are generally no leaks but they develop through the night. Your thoughts on that issue?

I was unclear as to just what was happening with the Bleep....was it adhesive failure or what?
Was the bad leak report above from a Bleep night???? If not the Bleep...which mask?
Have you taped your mouth shut to totally rule out mouth leaking? That would be the first thing I did...because to fix a problem you first have to identify the problem.

You need to be way more specific when giving us information so we can best offer ideas.

The Bleep failure is that when I install the ports they are completely void of air leaks but at some point, during the night I wake and there is then air leaking from or around the ports. Sometimes I actually thought that the attachable part was leaking where it attaches to the port. Other times there is air seeping out from under the adhesive portion.

I have tried taping with various tapes and I still show leaks in the morning report. The taping seems to make the cheeks adhering to the gums worse. I will try again and report back.
