Are you using Zicam every night?

Zicam is oxymetazoline based and susceptible to dependancy and rebound effect. There are things you can do to reduce / lessen the problems when using it.
  • Use only once a day ( at night prior to going to bed )
  • Use in only one nostril
  • Take with a corticosteroid such as Flonase
  • Cut the Zicam with saline
  • On good nights, take break from it to see if rebound problems are sneaking in. See if you can get by with Flonase / Saline.

With the exception of the Resmed Airmini and it's masks, all masks work on all modern machines.

if you are responding to a specific post, please use the quote feature. that's the " in the upper right hand corner. it will avoid confusion.

so i got myself a phillips dreamwear full face mask...and its way better than what i had before! just got it today and wore it for a few hours and tonight will be my first night. quick question thoufh...

will my cpap treatment effectiveness be affected by my mouth mouthbreathing with this new fullface mask? i sense no leaks and makes me feel comfy but i cant help to mouthbreathe...i do have a deviated septum that makes nose breathing hard.

should i increase on my cpap resmed10? im currentlt at 8 pressure ramp 3.

thanks

When going from nasal masks or nasal pillow masks, to a full face mask, some people do need increased pressure. If you think you will need increased pressure, raise your max pressure a couple centimeters. That will allow your machine to go higher if it needs to.

You can mouth breathe all you want or need to do with the full face mask because now the mask is part of the sealed circuit.
Won't hurt your therapy at all now that the mouth is included in the circuit of pressure.

You may or may not need to adjust the pressure a little with the change to the full face mask...it all depends on how much those straps on the bottom alter your jaw/neck/airway position.
Use regular pressure settings tonight and see what the reports shows tomorrow.

Don't forget to change your mask choice selection from nasal to full face.

Resmeds's have a 'mask type', Respironics copied that and called it "system one resistance".

Resmed's mask type setting reportedly was originally to help figure out the amount of leak, these days, the machines figure that out on their own, and the mask type helps to get exact pressure at the mask, just like the tube type, antibacterial and humidifier present or not (which is automatically set).

I've measured the pressures my machine makes with a manometer, and there's a small difference depending on what the mask type is set to, because smaller masks have more restriction to the airflow, so to get the pressure in the mask as correct as possible, all those restrictions need to be accounted for, and be part of the calculation of how hard the blower needs to blow to get the right pressure while you're breathing.

For instance, on my system with a 10 foot hose and antibacterial filter, while I'm running 18/12 pressures, I've seen the actual pressure at the back of the machine get up to 28cm/h2o on a heavy inhalation, as the machine works to keep the pressure where it needs to be, at the mask.

Basically every bit of flow restriction, the humidifier, AB filter, hose, mask, all cause a bit of pressure drop from what it was when it left the machine....

I hope that wasn't too confusing, cuz it's kind of a ramble.

glad to see people care of their machines and what they do awesome!

do you think mouthbreathing all night with the dreamwear full face mask will affect my therapy’s effect on making me feel better?
