What kind of employees does this company hire? I spent (5) days WALKING WITH Polar Bears with a company that has been in business for 25 years and never had to kill a bear!

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/29/world/po ... index.html
While you were walking with polar bears did anyone in the group carry a rifle?
Yes, and if you read the post they have been doing it for 25 years and never used it. Someone did something stupid and the bear paid for it.
The cruise line has been around since 1891. Over a hundred and twenty-five years, and they say this is the first time. Experience is not always the answer. They are required by law to have armed guards for just this reason. Remember Timothy Treadwell? Lived with Alaskan Grizzlies for 13 summers. I would say he was experienced. Not smart, just experienced. His remains were found in a 28 year old brown bear's stomach. Sometimes mistakes can be killers.

The number of polar bears outnumber humans in that area of the world (Svalbard). The area advises tourists NOT to leave the settlement without an armed guide/guard. The cruise line states that they were not there to view the bears. They state the only bear viewing they do is from a boat. I don't know what the purpose of the stop was, but can only attribute the encounter to poor luck on the human, and bears part.

Polar bears are probably already doomed. Mankind does not have the will or self control, to limit themselves. We will wring our hands and stick our heads in the sand denying that the climate is changing. Whether caused by man, or Mother Nature, the empirical evidence is there, that change is occuring

OT Follow-up to Polar Bear story -

I'm curious why you think 'human life before animals'.
of course Human life before animals every single time. Why would one think otherwise? Why would you even question it? is it because it's someone else's human life? If you were in danger of being eaten by a bear would you tell everyone to hold their fire or would you tell them to kill the bear? if your baby was in danger would you shoot the bear?

I would hopefully have had the 'brains' to stay out of their territory... we've shrunk the grounds and food supply of almost all wildlife in the world for our own greed... and what will happen in ? 30, 40, 50 yrs? Little kids will see videos of animals that used to live where they now do, but no longer exist, because we're so smart we couldn't figure out how to share even a little, how to design better, how not to think we're that superior.

People who have excess money are easily persuaded to throw it down the nearest vortex.

You think I have 'excess' money? Hope you weren't referring to me because you'd end up looking very foolish when you learned otherwise. Very otherwise.

Well, some folks do save up for unforgettable experiences.
A former co-worker took his wife on a cruise every 2 or 3 years.
It took that long to save up--but this was their bliss.
They lived frugally otherwise.

Absolutely!

A small number of STUPID tourists give others a bad name/reputation.

We see these types of articles frequently during the Summer months.

Agree 100%, but animals should never be punished for something a human did IMO.I have backpacked in the Sierras, Yellowstone, Glacier, walked with Polar Bears, done a walking safari in Tanzania and always knew the risks I was taking. Not politically correct, but there is and never will be a shortage of humans.

I heard a story from a Native Canadian Elder ..... he said, in the beginning, all were equal. The trees, the water, the earth, the sky, the air, the animal, the insects.......and man .......
