OT dead Polar Bear . . .

Post by hobbs » Sun Jul 29, 2018 4:28 pm

What kind of employees does this company hire? I spent (5) days WALKING WITH Polar Bears with a company that has been in business for 25 years and never had to kill a bear!

He would have been criticized worse if he didn't shoot it and a tourist got killed. i wasn't there and don't know if he was right or wrong. you probably didn't walk with the bear he shot and don't know anything about it either.

While you were walking with polar bears did anyone in the group carry a rifle?

Actually, it was shot after it attacked (and wounded) another guard. The 2nd guard that shot it saved the 1st guards life. Sorry, but that trumps the life of the bear.

I agree. Human life over animal.
People want the adrenaline rush from consorting among deadly creatures,
but never accept the consequences.
Eventually, something or someone has to die.

Yes, and if you read the post they have been doing it for 25 years and never used it. Someone did something stupid and the bear paid for it.

Now I understand the problem; they were ship guards not bear guides.

If an excursion needs a team of "Polar Bear Guards" the trip is probably not a good idea.

It's a case of man verse animals, man was the stupid trespasser, but killing saved him. The stupid surived.

The "excursion" may have been harmless when times were easier for the bears.
Now they are under way more stress--habitat and food supply scarcer each day.
Hungry carnivore meets tender, juicy biped--yum!
Maybe not such a good idea now.

It sounds like you had no problem encroaching on polar bear habitat. And, for five days at that!

OT Follow-up to Polar Bear story -

I'm curious why you think 'human life before animals'. Is it because of our supposedly greater intelligence? The intelligence that's leading us to trash the planet, kill other species for fun, profit and food (other animals only kill for food), because we build skyscrapers, compose symphonies, go into space and do brain surgery?

Or maybe we just ilke to flaunt that we can kill, like the girl (and others before her) who shot a giraffe because she could?

We are more powerful and sophisticated. That we would even consider morality here is a tribute to our advanced neocortex.
