Wouldn't it be expensive to do a repeat sleep study to see if they are working? I didn't see anywhere that the unit records any data.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 1:50 pmCanada has government healthcare. I'm thinking about getting one to use in combination with my CPAP. Maybe it will get my pressure down to 7.0.

Here is what the first patient looked like after two years of usage.

Maybe they are counting on failure or possibly quick death. JimOkyDoky wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:01 pmWouldn't it be expensive to do a repeat sleep study to see if they are working? Nope. Not true. While we do have universal health care. Items like XPAP are sold to individuals. How, or IF the government picks up the tab, differs by province. This unit seems to be available to individuals in Canada, but in a limited number of provinces.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 1:50 pmCanada has government healthcare. If you are expecting it to be cheaper than XPAP, I think you will be disappointed. Just the fact that they are not forthright about their prices leads me to suspect that.

OK, fair enough. I am originally Canadian but I left Canada in 1980. I remember Ontario's OHIP provincial health plan but I was not involved with CPAP back then. That was also before the federal plan, I believe.Cpapian wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 4:54 pmNope. Not true. While we do have universal health care. Items like XPAP are sold to individuals. Since then, I have been mainly in Virginia but still have family up there in the Promised Land

That is true in the US. I do not know the current rules in Canada.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 6:56 amThe opening context of the discussion was that the manufacturers do not sell the devices to individuals. They are sold through distributors (DMEs).

The rules don't cover it. It's too expensive for a manufacturer to develop their own distribution network to sell directly to consumers. It's more cost effective to use the existing network of distributors.
Sommetrics, a company providing products and services to improve sleep quality, has partnered with AvantSleep to distribute the Sommetrics sleep apnea therapy system, aerSleep, to Canadians diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). AvantSleep will distribute aerSleep in select Canadian markets, followed by a full Canadian launch in 2018.

Except in this case they have developed their own distribution network to sell directly to consumers. Their AvantSleep locations are taking up vacant locations. Some are so new they don't even have their webpage up and running.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 9:33 amThe rules don't cover it. What evidence do you have of this? The manufacturer is a San Diego company. I am skeptical that they would develop a network to sell directly to consumers in Canada. I am especially skeptical since they only mention AvantSleep as the distributor in their press releases - https://sommetrics.com/sommetrics-partn ... in-canada/

It sounds like AvantSleep does the testing/diagnosis & sells the equipment. This is not legal to do both in the US. They appear to be located mainly in western Canada.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 10:59 amWhat evidence do you have of this? The manufacturer is a San Diego company. Labs selling equipment--in the US, this is only prohibited by Medicare.
BCBSNE, was perfectly OK with it several years ago--maybe even now.
They used Somnos--even though they were not even on the Medicare list.,
due to this exact conflict.

I think I am remembering the diagnosing doctor cannot also own the sleep lab. Their website indicates they do at home sleep study & diagnosis.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 3:15 pmLabs selling equipment--in the US, this is only prohibited by Medicare.
