Do you remember me telling you about him?

Avi...the 2 lovely deer are all grown up and moved away.
I do remember you have family in St Louis...I am clear across the state from St Louis so it would be a little longer than 15 minutes to come and beat me up. Besides I have Down syndrome Pug dog who will protect me.

I don't want to fight with you. I have mellowed a lot since we had those wars some years ago. Unless you come up with something blatantly dangerous for someone...I am going to leave you alone and not comment and if I do comment I will try to be a lady about it. Now if you poke back after I am a lady about it...then I will poke back...or point you to this thread and we can both come here and have World War III.

Thank you for your post, Pugsy. You put into words well what I'm sure many have been thinking and feeling.

I try to read most threads to see if I can help but it's soooo discouraging when people start sniping and attacking each other. I have a thick skin and when someone replies and adds a snide comment, I just ignore that part of it and address the substance of the thread. It's a useful technique, rather than taking it as a call to combat.

We are supposed to be here to help each other, not to look for opportunities or excuses to attack people, put them down, or make them feel bad. If we can just start with the man in the mirror, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljpl0neGk2Q, we might just make the world (or at least cpaptalk.com) a better place. Instead of thinking about how your post will make YOU feel, think about how it will make OTHERS feel, and if it adds to the goal of helping people.

You know I have always tried really hard to adhere to this principle but I admit that sometimes I have gotten so angry that I say something in the heat of anger that I regret..not immediately but once I simmer down.
I am not perfect...if I get punched I want to punch back...and I will. I've been known to make a jackass out of myself on more than one occasion. Sometimes I will go back and simply remove my post if it is still the last post...sometimes I will edit it and sometimes I edit it and do the dot thing and spam remove myself if I can't delete it.

So I really do understand the desire to say something a bit pointed/ugly/or whatever when I feel I have been wronged in some fashion. On occasion I will step in and call a spade a spade without personal provocation being directed at me...if someone is a big enough of an ass I will speak my mind...I do usually try to apologize to the OP for hijacking the thread..recent example is when I called a forum member a jackass. I think we all know who it is...likes to play with fonts and brags about his sole mission in life (and I guess this forum) is to be a disruptive force.
I won't be removing or altering that post I made where I did call him a jackass (more colorful words were in my mind but probably not suitable for public viewing ). I don't think the OP ever came back anyway...unregistered guest with only one post. But I made my appropriate apology anyway.

Sometimes you just have to get the 2 X 4 out and use it because the person just simply wants to stir up trouble and that's all they want to do and gentle hints fall on deaf ears.

Well...you did do a lot of poking me..it's not like I just out of the blue said what I said without provoking from you..and what was it I said?

Hmm.. I called you a grumpy old man...that was it.
I like how the font of uselessness and FUD is criticizing one of the most helpful people on the forum. pretty much says all that needs to be said about avi.

Is the *Toa/oDiot deteriorating?

(*Time out and/or Duke it out thread)

~~~except to *me* it just seems like a well written May/Dec bromance?
(emphasis on well done)
I need to google on if there is a male name for cougar?
...I don't think there is cougar age limit?
just $ and pulse
Shit?
I can say this here, right?
I think time out is a safe place?
I don't have kids.
I never learned or made those rules
Duke it out sounds like more fun ... I bet most kids would pick DUKE IT?
but as I say ... I don't have any kids around to ask.
Maybe I could ask trick or treaters?
I hope it will have merged with that Dinner thread.
No...not at all...this is what this thread is for...to say things that maybe you want to say to someone or about someone and maybe it's not so flattering...
I prefer it here ...and not in the middle of real helping threads.
This isn't a helping thread...this is the corner you get sent to for a time out for being naughty or where you get in a fight in the bar and get told to take it outside...this thread is "the outside".
Fight all you want in here...I don't care and won't try to referee. Duke it out...get bloody...hire a hit man...I don't care...just take it out of helping threads.
I just gave everyone a place to fight because I know there's going to be fights...never for once expected there wouldn't be any more and we would all kiss and make up...that ain't gonna happen.
Pugsy, you are a gem.
Anyone who receives your honest criticism has earned it.
We are not here to elevate ourselves, but to help others,
and, when needed, to discourage others from doing the opposite.
I've been away and so missed this thread when it started. I've read the whole thing.
I think Pugsy is right: We do need a place to tell people to take it when they hijack a newbie's thread with a nascent flame war. And this thread does provide a place to link to and tell the offenders to take their argument here. Simply saying "Crickets" just didn't do the job, in part because the offenders would not hear the "Crickets" and the newbies had no idea what "Crickets" meant.
I don't often get into tangles with people around here, but I have had some classic duke-it-outs with a few people in the (far) past. Like Pugsy, one of the reasons I've taken (more than one) break from the forum is to get away from the nasty name calling and hijacking of people's threads in the past.
There are good ways of correcting misinformation---at least the first several times someone unintentionally posts misinformation---and there are bad ways of correcting misinformation. I do my best to "attach the message" and not the messenger, so to speak. I have no trouble writing fairly pointed and detailed posts explaining why Poster X's information is misleading. But I do try to avoid calling Poster X names or saying Poster X is "stupid" or "dumb" or "lacking common sense". Do I always succeed? Probably not.
Finally I'll add my own pet peeve: And that's the folks who attack newbies on their first post. Yes, a lot of newbies come here very angry about their OSA diagnosis and very angry over the idea that they will spend the rest of their life sleeping with a f*cking/d*mn machine. It's one thing to try get these angry newbies to understand their attitude is a major part of their problem, but it's another thing to attempt to correct them by using personally insulting language. Tough love can be down without insulting the person and tough love is likely to be more effective if it does not involve insulting the person.
You are such a miserable, nasty ?man? You just couldn't leave well enough alone, could ya? Pugsy and Avi were acting like adults and actually joking around. You couldn't stand that, could ya PR. You'd much rather see people attack each other. That's who you are PR, and my hope is that everyone here finally sees that!
Crickets???
~~~really?

What if a newbie accidentally called themselves Cricket?
(My BF's Aunt is Cricket in real life)

...and so ALL cricket talk was code?

I wonder if that is just here?
I am now pondering all cricket conversations everywhere?

I love crickets.
I know I've written and DEFINITELY talked about crickets.

I'm really going to have to get twitter or something?

I am going to respectfully take issue with what you said. I wasn't going to respond but it bothers me because I can't see where anything PR said was meant to provoke me or Avi attack each other...and the font nut thing...he's dead on about that one. That nut job doesn't need any provoking to stir up shit.
What he said was true and wasn't said in an insulting manner that I could see. He pretty much stated the facts as they are. How you come up with his trying to stir up shit is beyond me.

I know you really believe that PR is the way you see him and want all the rest of us to see him like you do but it's not going to happen. You will get a few to agree with you but the majority of us know different.
Yeah...he can be a dick sometimes but I don't know many of us here who hasn't been a dick ourselves one time or another. I know I have and admit it.
