Greetings,

We've further updated our new spam feature based on feedback.

I've noticed that the thread seems to still show up on the main listing of threads but returns a "no posts on this thread" dialogue box when opened. Is there a way that the whole thing can be sent to the "admin only" listing?

There are three types of cpaptalk spam: new post spam, new topic spam and profile spam.

The first version of our spam feature handled new post spam well but if you deleted the one and only post inside a new topic, the topic remained. Due to this, we've put a new rule in place: if a registered cpaptalker marks a post as spam and it is the only post in the topic, the whole topic becomes invisible until admin'ed.

The effect is that if there is new topic and it is a spammer posting it, you can make it go away, title and all.

We are still working the details for profile spam.

Johnny I applaud your effort to help eliminate Spam. It got me to thinking about it and how people would alert us by posting SPAM SPAM SPAM. Funny thing is a lot of times there were quite a few number of "views". Must be like a WET PAINT sign, you gotta touch to be sure?

Johnny, this is a great policy.

You even changed it due to feedback. (Y'all pay attention to forum feedback! )

Before I read this thread, I found some fairly new spam and thought I was "reporting" it. Imagine the thrill to see it disappear! (Although it was for a medication prescribed for me; maybe I should have checked the price first... )

So, in honor of this momentous contribution to spam control, may I please suggest that you now bear the title of "Sir Spamalot."

Just one other suggestion: Maybe the one-click policy of losing the delete privilege could be modified? Some of us have essential tremor which causes occasional unintended clicks, others make mistakes without meaning harm. Could you use your judgement in suspending the privilege should the deletion of a valid post be a rare event?

I'm guessing that you may have already decided to make it so. Thank you.

A lot of the views were because a spam post was added to an old thread that already had a lot of views back when it was spam-free. Except for the annoying spam post tacked on, it was kinda' fun to see some of the interesting old threads resurface at random. Like a grab bag with lotsa treats in it.

I think that's a great suggestion. Not just in the case of hand tremors, either. Some of us have neurocognitive "visual jitters" as well. Mine seem to be getting less frequent now that I finally have all four of my sleep disorders under control.

Johnny, perhaps you could move the delete spam button just a teeny tad further away from the quote button for those of us with bad aim? Or perhaps a confirmation yes/no button if one doesn't already exist? I haven't had a chance to use the delete spam button yet, but it sure does make me feel as if I'm empowered with a "spammer hammer". Thanks for the hammer, Johnny.

I've only been back on the site for a couple of days, and I've already nuked about 10 spam messages, so I think this is a definite improvement.

But I agree, I think you should keep some statistics on how many posts a person deletes, how many of them turn out to really be spam, etc.

If, as -SWS suggests, I go for the "Quote" button and miss it, and end up deleting a post I didn't mean to delete, but on the whole my use of the delete function has been above board and honest, I'm not sure it's in anyone's best interest to take it away from me.

But that's just me, who will probably disappear back under whatever rock from which I crawled in a few days.

Johnny, Thank you for the trust and "empowerment"; it sure felt good to zap a probable Spammer.

I think the idea of opening a new window for confirmation would be ideal for all of us.

Wader, it was through no domestic policy of my own that she wore that mask. Amazingly, my wife and I never really got to see Rested Gal's face that entire visit. She wore an array of masks the entire time she was in town. When patrons in restaurants would stare, I would shrug my shoulders and apologetically smile. "Scuba diver" or "dedicated anesthesiologist" I would say, attempting to allay their concerns.

When Rested Gal finally decided to jet set to the Northeast to test some serious polysomnogram equipment, my wife and I just smiled and shook our heads in utter amazement. To this day we ask ourselves: "Who was that masked woman?" Occasionally our neighbor Wilson peers up from his side of our fence and offers thought provoking clues to our mysterious friend. But now that I think about it, we've never seen his face either... .
