Need some clarification

Post by kteague » Fri Jul 14, 2006 2:08 am

Yesterday a slew of valid threads were marked SPAM SPAM but just one reply within the thread was spam. Will clicking on SPAM delete just that posting or the whole thread?

Haven't met the chatroom intruder.

Ric, if it were not 4:00am, I'd be off to the corner bakery.

Kathy

Johnny,

Thanks!

I've noticed that the thread seems to still show up on the main listing of threads but returns a "no posts on this thread" dialogue box when opened. Is there a way that the whole thing can be sent to the "admin only" listing?
Sincerely,

SPAM Subject Lines

Is it possible to delete those when the SPAM post is removed. There is a gross one here right now.

I have a question.

There is a post dated July 14 at 4:58 am.

No message just rude title. Since there is no actual post, I don't see the delete spam option (next to quote).

How does one get rid of this one from the poster "pornomastahh"????

it was already deleted using the spam button

Post by wolftracker » Fri Jul 14, 2006 8:52 am

only the first person gets to do it ... then it goes to a blank
until johnny et al agree it is spam and removes it for ever

I agree with snoregirl... I'd like to see the thread subjuct automaticaly deleted also. I hate to have my kids come upon the language used in some of these post subject lines.

Thanks wolftracker, now I understand, someone got there and deleted the post already but the title remains for now.

I stupidly thought that the spammer made a title only post, but I should know that that is impossible.

I guess I read something in this thread earlier about the thread should also be removed but didn't understand exactly what was being referred to

NOW I DO!!

Not only do I agree with that but also - there is no indication that someone has already deleted it unless you click on the subject. I don't know if that can be solved or not?

If we get pretty good behavior with no complaints about malicious deletes how about the delete function just dropping the post into a bit bucket whereby it goes into the ether.

Great idea! I think that it would be an efficient use of us cpaptalk regulars. I say ...out of sight - out of mind. If we can remove the offending posts relatively quickly it would make the presence of the SPAM virtually un-noticable.

I'm guessing it's an "index" that stays there until the administrators verify that it is in fact SPAM and they delete it. Think of it like MS Windows.....when you "delete" something, it shows up in the "Recycle Bin".....but doesn't actually get deleted until you Empty the Recycle Bin or individually delete it out of there. If or when you may decide to Undelete it, it will show up back were it originally was. Only in this case, we still get to see where it was.

good point Den, i'm sure that's how it works (more or less). however, i'm wondering how much trouble it would be to re-index the thread on deletion of a "tentative spam", then re-re-index it in the event the post was reinstated. (this is assuming that a script would be invoked, and not a human needing to be involved with that process). after all, it's ONLY software, right? (famous last words).

Thank you Johnny and crew!

The spamming has really gotten out of hand as of late.

Just something to consider on this giving everyone the authority to "kill" offensive posts: What about the occasional troll who shows up here solely for the purpose of posting hurtful or offensive comments? People like him could suddenly have the power to delete all posts, effectively disabling this group.

No easy answers, I guess.
