OCO,
I think you can see the ramifications for those kinds of actions in one of Johnny's paragraphs:
JohnnyGoodman wrote:So, if you an upstanding member of CPAPtalk and want the power to keep its streets free from bad guys you are now able to. If you abuse our system and mark non-spam as spam, you will get away with it only for a short while and then you will lose the ability to delete posts or be banned from cpaptalk completely.
Only a logged in member can see the "Delete Spam" button, so the Administrators would know who it was that did it.....and then they would respond accordingly.

To date I have not noticed a "registered" Troll. We have have our share of unregistered Trolls. Perhaps the ability to wipe out posts would incent them to register - I don't know. I suppose we could weather one such attack understanding we would have to back off such a generous policy.
Like you said - no easy answers. Most of our captions are not so offensive as the one today but I would like some indication that it has already been "killed" so I don't have to bother with it.

Booty 1996 wasn't a troll, Booty was a fool, a moron, an idiot, probably a teen-ager or younger. But, you are correct Booty may have been wacko enough to maliciously delete posts.

For those who would like the whole thread to be deleted when marked as spam, this would work where the spammer started a new thread. But what happens when the spammer replies to an otherwise legitimate thread. We don't want the whole thread deleted.

It only deletes the post. Not the whole thread.

I understand that. But someone was asking if the whole thread could be deleted instead of just the post. This was related to a thread where the spam was the only post. My comment was that solution could cause a problem where spam is posted in an ongoing thread.

Consecutive spam deletions could be limited to - for instance 5 - which would limit the damage caused by a malicious registered user.

How about if Johnny could sell spam ammo (SPAMMO?), how much would you pay to delete a spam? It is SO VERY satisfying ya know... It could be a whole new product line. Might we establish a secondary market to buy and sell those magic bullets? (including futures and options of course.) How many are lurking here just waiting for that magic moment? Seems the average lifespan of a spam (LIFESPAM?) is measured in seconds. What if we delete them all and they never come back, won't THAT be a sad moment... HEY! WHAT AM I THINKING??? *SLAP*
