Kathleen,

Thanks for the info. I know when I was shopping around to see who had it, I had gone into my local Rite Aid after I told this Slaters to order it for me. They said it would be about $5.00. This is not compound, I don't believe. It does say it has 75% alcohol in it, which may not be too good for the mask seal. But we'll see. I have an extra set of pillows for my Aura if they do get ruined.

I used the mask glue on the Aura last night and it really works great. I was able to pry enough out of the cap of one (it was hiding under there...) and it felt like it really was just the extra touch needed to secure no leaks. I will use the pantyhose leg to keep it in place, but it really wasn't necessary with the glue. I also slept really well, which makes me think I do wake up from the mask leaking, even though my leak rate is not too bad at all.

I think this bottle is going to last forever. It's huge. And since I will only be needing a small amount, I can't see it being used up for awhile. Although I will share it with my son who uses the UMFF.

I'm going to bump this up because it is so interesting - even though I don't need glue myself.

Sleepless on LI, are you using the Tincture of Benzoine with your Aura? How did you do?

Are there any SWIFT users trying this stuff and if so, how's it working? It just stands to reason that a bunch more people could adapt to their masks easier if they could just stabilize them.

It didn't seem to do too much for my Aura, although I was already doing pretty well with it without the BT. I have been using it the past few nights with the Breeze, a mask I swore I couldn't use, and it's been pretty great. Made an incredible seal with the medium pillows.

I don't want to go off topic with the Breeze, so I guess 'nuff said. But if you're like me, you really don't need too much help with the Aura when it comes to leaks. Now hair smushing is another story.

Quick update. Used A LOT of the benzoin tincture on the Aura pillows last night, let it dry for about a minute, and it worked GREAT! I mean GREAT. It sealed those suckers shut. No pantyhose was necessary and there really is no cleanup for me in the AM. So I will recant yesterday's post about not needing it with the Aura. It worked very well (did I say "GREAT"???).

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I may start tonight off with the Ultra Mirage ff mask and see how it works (I say "start tonight off" because I probably won't last the night with it on). I stopped using the UMFF mask because of the leaks and the noises they would create. Maybe it's time to give it a go with the benzoin. I'll let you know, Pooh.

The only thing I can glean from what you posted that may worry me is respiratory problems from inhalation. But the pillows are coated on the outside of the nose and I can't smell the stuff at all (believe me, you should be able to if it was in your nose where you'd be inhaling it-strong odor). Maybe I'm mistaken, but if you're sealing the seals of the mask and not smelling the bt, then I would hope/think it would be all right. At least it's not a carcinogen, like everything else in this world, just about.

I'll tell you, just breathing the air nowadays creates respiratory problems, or drinking tap water, or eating foods that have certain additives, etc. I think we can probably find something to worry about in just about everything we do, ingest or come in contact in this world, I'm sorry to say.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not shooting the messenger here. Thanks for the informative post. It is greatly appreciated.

Lori, I need that little pantyhose strap to help stabilize the Aura to my head. And just those 2 little straps holds everything in place - no glue and no headgear. Especially, no headgear.

Did I say no headgear? ..

Now, if I hear any really loud noises tonight, I won't be scared. I'll know it's just Lori's UMFF trying to "break out and cut loose".....

Hi folks - thought I'd add my two cents worth again. I've now been using Benzoine since the start of this post and have gotten much better with it.

First - I only apply it to the places on my nostrils where the mask will touch and LET IT DRY before applying the mask. This way the silicone doesn't come into contact with the alcohol at all and all that's left is the tacky substance.

Secondly - I'm careful to NOT get it into the interior of my nostril so that the pillows can easily slide up without getting "caught" by the Benzoine. Actually I've found that a tiny amount of Bag Balm applied to the exterior of the pillow inserts helps tremendously. I also turn on the machine before putting on the mask and the whole process of getting the mask on takes just about 2 seconds and VOILA! - it's sealed tight and I don't have to fiddle with it.

For those concerned about inhaling this stuff - I apply it with a q-tip to minimize the amount but it's also a medicine used to treat things like pneumonia, flu-like symptoms etc. so inhaling a tiny bit during the prep time is just not an issue (for me at least). There's documentation of this stuff being used in steamers to help people with pulmonary problems.

It's been fun to watch this post grow.

By the way - for those out there still thinking of the scuba glue - this Benzoine stuff is way much better and probably 1/100th of the cost.
