And a very good thing for your husband it is, too.

By the way, there's an old song from many years ago in some other language (I think Spanish) that "Owatonna, MN" (under your name) reminds me of.

But since I don't know Spanish, I don't have any idea what the name is or even how you'd spell it. Does anyone even know what I'm talking about?

Liam, so far off topic now, if he gets any further away, he'll circle the earth and be getting closer to ON topic again.

Yeah yeah, don't get cocky. You young whippersnappers with your "I've got a longer hose".

Liam, who's gonna grab his walker and shuffle angrily from the room.

I cant use a walker, I may trip over my hose!!!

Corey, who must wake up from this silly dream
Its always breezy in here....

Well all you young whippersnappers, I'm seeing 60 in July but I don't look my age. No, honestly, I've been told that by a lot of people, in spite of the dark circles I used to have under my eyes from sleep deprivation. I tell folks it is all those artificial preservatives in the food I eat. Well, they gotta be good for something.

I've got some very long-lived ancestors behind me, so I think I've got the genes to keep on living for a very long time, if something like SA doesn't get in the way. And I intend to not let anything get in the way of me enjoying life to the fullest and the longest. I'll be totering around the nursing home at 105 giving people my expert opinions on everything from marriage to how to raise a dog.

Oh, please, let's not start this... people's lives are their own, let's not start a flame war.

Liam, who could be gay, but only if he were also a woman.

Flame war

I think that Liam is right, "people's lives are their own." Having said that, I'd encourage hhunt withhold comments
For a while I was under the impression that she was gay, so I didn't want to be associated with her name.
that have noting whatsoever to do with OSA, or any other aspect of this forum, that could well be considered by some, to be insensitive or disparaging.

While Guest's response
Got something against gays???
is perhaps a bit aggressive, his/her concern that hhunt's comment is homophobic is, I believe, spot on. hhunt's comment is clear --she does not want to be associated with someone who is gay. That is fine, she can live her life as she pleases. In this public forum, one might want to restrict oneself to comments that are not dismissive of 10% of the population who are our family members, friends, neighbours, co-workers, etc.

Jump down my throat if you must... All I'm saying is that this forum, which is so profoundly helpful, should open for the comfortable use of all. We should make sure that we don't make disparaging comments of any group based on our personal feelings.

I plead guilty of being 58, we need a change of subject.

Well, I read it as another attempt at a joke. I have enough gay friends to know that being openly gay in our society, while much easier than it would have been 50 years ago, is still no picnic, and so it's not uncommon for straight people to not want to be mistakenly labeled that way.

I suppose I shouldn't speak for Heidi, but I'd REALLY just rather assume she meant it in the kindest possible way.

The best thing she, and ALL of us, can do on this topic is to leave it alone. Because if she DID mean it the way you took it, we'll just have hurt feelings, and if she just meant it as a joke that perhaps didn't work as well as she'd hoped, then saying so will just lead someone else to want to lecture on how such jokes are inappropriate.

And from my viewpoint, there are very few topics which are inappropriate for joking. As a society, we are at our best when we can laugh at things, and tend to be at our worst when we hold up one topic or another as a sort of "sacred cow", above debate, discussion, or humor.

Gender preference is really not at issue here, let's keep the civility and move on.

Liam, who REALLY wants to difuse this bomb before it destroys our happy little community.

Cows are sacred in India and I am offended that you are minimizing that

Y'know, I knew as I was writing it that someone was going to come back with this one...

Hey, now, mentioning stakes is offensive to those of us who are vampires!

Liam, who just realized why he never sleeps AT NIGHT.

Far be it from me to stay away from a HOT socio-political topic on the forum.

To the Guest who was offended by hhunt's comments: Please don't go through life looking to be offended. There are a number of regular posters on this forum that make it abundantly clear every time the apnea/overweight issue comes up that they are normal weight and have always been that way, disassociating themselves from the overweight/apnea stereotype. As an overweight individual myself I am not offended by their comments. I don't refer to them as "blubberphobic"

This forum is a very caring and friendly place. No one is here to offend, so please don't take any offense from our comments.
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

Gee, I didn't realize with one comment, which was meant to be a joke, I'd start a war.

If I had joked about not wanting to be associated with people who are married, the old "ball and chain" jokes--would that have been more acceptable?????? Or how about fat jokes??? I'm not exactly 5'4" and 110lbs. LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE OR I'LL HAVE TO INCREASE THE PRESSURE ON YOUR MACHINES!!!

I don't care what anyone does behind their bedroom door. It is none of my business.

I should have actually sent that to Liam as a personal message or whatever.
