Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
As excerpted below from one of the sites selling Stetzer products, and representative of many referencing sites, Dr. Magda Havas is an avid supporter of Stetzer products. And they have a product for about everything the OP mentioned - cell phone covers, meters to test the EMF level in your home, filters to decrease it, even window coverings made from that wonderful protective fabric. Oh, and did you know there's job opportunities as a tester or distributor... is that enough?
While I have no doubt there are health consequences to the relentless exposure to EMF, the marketing around these products reeks of snake oil preying on the sick. My take on any product is the longer the list of miraculous claims, the less it really does.
Excerpted text:
"People are experiencing better quality sleep and are enjoying higher energy levels during the day. Not only do the Graham-Stetzer filters help people who are electrically sensitive, they are having a positive impact on people with multiple sclerosis and diabetes. More specifically, results from pilot studies show that some people with MS who previously had difficulty walking or were dependent on canes are now walking unassisted and with reduced pain. Diabetics who had the filters installed in their homes have lower fasting blood sugar levels and require less insulin."
Dr. Magda Havas, Professor, Trent University, Environmental and Resource Studies Dept.
There may a value to an EMF discussion, but I have no doubt in my mind the OP is a shill.

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
People have been having OSA since the dawn of history.
"He/She died quietly in their sleep"
Medieval healer knew that the time most people died was between 3am and morning. This is when we sleep deepest and have REM sleep and we have the highest number of apneas. Snoring amongst the hard working common folk was always part of the comedy routine.

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
This is really stupid and I probably shouldn't post it, but I can't help myself at the moment.
The OP griping about the marks left from the mask, saying they have to stay in the house for hours because of the marks -- O.M.G. If only that was the worst thing I have to deal with.
I know I am supposed to be more compassionate and understanding and it's NOT other people's fault that my situation is so bad. But (you knew there was a 'but' right?) -- sometimes I get so damned mad at people complaining and making a big deal over something so ridiculous. If they ever get REALLY ill or heaven forbid -- DISABLED, they wouldn't make it.
Like the woman that complained about the red light from the pulse ox sensor during a sleep study - said it bothered her. Sheesh. Close your fricking eyes and put your hand under the covers.
Okay -- I feel better now. I am going to take my marked face (my mask leaves imprints on my face PERMANENTLY), hobble to my wheelchair, drive to the kitchen, hobble to my coffee maker and make myself a cup of coffee, then oh so carefully carry it (and myself) to my table and relax with my Kindle and read for a spell. Then I will carefully make my way back to my LIFT recliner and sit the rest of the afternoon -- since I cannot do much else.
Marks on my face from the mask? Doesn't rank in the top 100 of things to get upset about.

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
Cause: muscles relax during sleep allowing soft tissue to obstruct airway.
Possible solution: find exercises that strengthen muscles used to hold the airway open. (Do people who sing a lot for instance snore?) Another thought, have any detailed surveys been done to compare characteristics of people with and without OSA?

I find it interesting to note that radial keratotomy was developed in Russia--(not the US);
Sadly, the rest of the world had been spending a fortune on eyeglasses for over a hundred years,
and would have probably continued to do so if not for the obvious financial advantage of surgical correction over mechanical.
This will just take more time with apnea.

Not a shill for anyone, just sharing research you can look into yourself. I never even posted any links, just mentioned names. My current working theory is that EMF could be to blame for my own issues. IF I find it's another issue, I'll post that up just the same. What are your current theories? How are you trying to help yourself (and by extension, help others) find out what caused it and to cure it?
So, anyone know of any cures yet or are you just going to try to insult me further and be of no help to me, yourselves or the millions of others suffering from this?
I'm just looking for the causes (everything from EMF to Aspartame to ?) so as to find the CURE.
If you all want to keep treating the symptoms and not find a cure, that is your own lookout.
I'm sick of the machine. Nobody here could SANELY tell me they love their machine and never want to be well again because they just love it so much.. So, logically, everyone here must want a cure. By Default.
Post up your ideas, sans ego, and lets get to the bottom of this issue shall we?

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
Sorry you are having so much trouble adjusting to therapy.
The right equipment--especially a mask that fits you, should help.
Sadly, you have little hope for success until your attitude matures.
If you had a broken leg, you would refuse to have a cast and crutches?
If you lost a limb, would you not try valiantly to learn to use a prosthetic?
Or would you immediately decide your life was not worth living, and crawl somewhere dark to die?
Some here have felt that way, but we stopped ranting and started TRYING.
Give yourself a chance--you could be stronger than you think.

There is no answer, life is what it is, unless you have a way-back machine to erase the years ans wear and tear on our bodies. We are the result of genetics and what we has to do to get where we are at now. We are lucky ot have something (xpap) that allows us to stop the damage from Sleep Apnea, and even in some cases repair someof the damage. Jim

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
Different people have different sleep problems, I'm sure. Weight is one of the major factors. Drinking and smoking certainly contribute in at least some cases. And AGE may be one of the greatest causes-you get older, it's harder to sleep as you age--that's a fact, Jack. When I was younger and a smoker, I slept better anytime I quit for a week or so. But when I quit permanently six years ago, sleeping didn't get better.
Maybe some people have EMF problems but I don't believe that's a big deal. As I said, my problem developed long before cell phones and WiFi. Maybe it's because I'm older (68) and looks aren't a big deal anymore but the impressions left by my mask don't bother me (and they are gone withing a half hour of getting up anyway).
Like I said, this is the era of immediate gratification: "I got a problem and I want is solved NOW and I don't want to make any sacrifice to get a solution."
I put off CPAP for a long time because I didn't think there was any way to sleep with a mask. But as soon as I discovered how much better I felt with CPAP that anxiety vanished. I actually look forward to bed time now.

Re: Sick of the Machine - Need a Cause, Need a Cure
GS Filters are unproven. There are no peer-reviewed medical journals raving about the efficacy of GS Filters with regards to environmental health issues. Central apnea can be an inherited problem, a functional problem brought on by physical accident involving the brain, or from environmental/diet/health issues that are as of yet undetermined. It could also be a combination of one or more of all three.Kitfox wrote:I'm sick of the machine. Maybe environmental palliatives like GS Filters and living a healthier life can't hurt - but it's not going to cure you. That's a little like saying not using cell phones is going to cure near-sightedness.
If you have central sleep apnea, then you're right. There is currently no cure. We cannot do a brain transplant, because - well - you wouldn't be you, would you?
Please forgive us if we seem skeptical. There have been a number of people previously who have obviously been paid to attempt to post a viral campaign, masquerading as a "Fellow CPAP sufferer" only to suddenly find true happiness with their newly found product "Snorez-b-gone". Or whatever.
If that's not you, please feel welcome. Why not create a user name and post your equipment profile. It's pretty easy.
First create a user name and log in. Then it's 1-2-3. (See image below.)
1. Go to the user control panel.
2. Click the profile tab.
3. Click the edit equipment sub-tab. Use the pulldowns to make your selections. Also tell us your pressure in the additional comments.
That way we might be able to help you get rid of those lousy mask marks, eh?
Welcome.
