waiting for the Hybrid
waiting for the Hybrid
It's all we hear about. Can't wait to see it. They say mouth breathers can wear it too.If so, I'll be in heaven!
Looked on the other board. Supposedly someone called Innomed customer service about the Nasal Air II and they told them they should wait until the new Hybrid comes out. That the new interface would eliminate the need for a chin strap. Sounds to me like someone is building a chin strap into their headgear.
Be interesting to find out if this is a CPAP myth or some new mask technology. Keep in mind these are the same folks who think sticking tubes up your nose is comfortable. (i.e. the Freestyle)

Integrated chin strap on hybrid
I don't know what a hybrid in CPAP land might be.
I've had my CPAP for about 2 months, and have asked ever since about chin straps.
Integrating the chin strap INTO the mask design! What a concept!
Then, if one did not need a chin strap, it could just be omitted? But if one DOES need the chin strap, it wouldn't slip and slide and interfere with the headgear straps?
Man, I'm telling you--this is the 21st century!

CPAP hybrid
Hybrid...isn't that basically combining a gas and electric device?
I thought that was PROBLEM we had with CPAP.......
If its something new from Innomed, I hope it works out better than their Freestyle. That was a MAJOR dissapointment.
Innomed also needs to work on designs that are a bit more forgiving for size varations in people. Biggest problem of their devices is that they work great if one of their sizes fits you EXACTLY, but its a disaster if they are even a little bit off.
Innomed is certainly overdue for a (succesful) new product release. It could be interesting.

Hybrids
Actually, I thought hybrids were flowers that would not bloom the same next year.
But, seriously, I looked at the SomnoPlus but did not see any mention of a chin strap that was integrated with the other straps. It does make some sense that SOMEONE would have thought of this concept.
I'm also not sure what a hybrid mask might really be--nasal AND mouth pillows? A mouth mask with nasal pillows? A nasal mask with mouth pillow? I search-engined the term, and found some other interesting things, but not the hybrid CPAP mask.
I am still awaiting the backordered ComfortLite 2. If the new hybrid is released, and it turns out to be superior to the ComfortLite 2 for a mouth-breather such as I...well, let us just say that I am hoping to get the best solution.
I'm fairly new at this CPAP business, but it just seems to me that the 3 mask/interface systems I have tried have all worked pretty well overall. I am grateful for what I take to be the newer inventions, such as nasal pillows. They are more comfortable for me, but if I'd had to use a full-face mask, I would have. Then I would have suffered with the skin problems, but maybe with adequate amounts of moleskin, visits to the dermatologist, and face calluses....
We are all really looking for something a bit better, aren't we? This hybrid could really be the answer for some who are now hesitant to comply. Now if I could only find out what it is...IF it is....

If your headgear has the fuzzy velcro surface it is relatively easy to add a velstretch band under the chin and sticks to the existing headgear. The arrangement does not cup the chin so does not pull backward on the jaw to contribute to obstruction.
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.....Galbraith's Law
Is this what you guys are talking about?

Hudson RCI, Research Triangle Park, NC, a division of Teleflex Medical, has introduced the Hybrid patient interface, a fusion of technologies designed to be a universal interface for both patients and providers. This product serves as a nasal interface, an oral interface, and a combination of the two. The design of the Hybrid promotes patient comfort by eliminating pressure points on the forehead and across the bridge of the nose. A built-in chin flap gently supports the chin, ensuring optimal performance. Each individual package contains all of the components required to properly size the patient, which eliminates the inconvenience of opening multiple masks to get the right fit.
