Titration Study Tips

Post by caffeinatedcfo » Sat Apr 20, 2013 3:44 pm

Tomorrow night is my titration study. I've already received the following advice and looking for any suggestions to get the most out of this experience:

1) Try other mask types (i.e. pillows)
2) Sleep supine (my preference anyway)
3) I will bring nasal spray and sleep aids just in case they're needed
4) Bring my own pillow
5) This center has a box fan in the room for white noise
6) My book (1/2 way through Under the Dome)
7) My mask (in case nothing else works)

Any other ideas?

If you are a light sleeper, consider depriving yourself of sleep prior. Don't let them give you a machine to take home as your new machine because it will most likely be the least desirable machine they can legally give out. If they get your titration pressure hours before you are ready to go home tell them to wake you and have you lay differently. If they note positional apnea requirements it is further justification for an auto type machine over a straight.

Hi everyone. I'm all wired up and ready to go. Tech let me choose my mask. The swift FX fit like a glove and I love it already! I wish I tried this mask earlier. And I can wear my glasses with it woot!

I just spent the last 1/2 hour talking Game of Thrones with my tech. Lol. Such a good experience I might not go home.

Ill be updating y'all tomorrow with results.

Anyone want to poll what my pressure Rx will be? I have my S9 auto set to 9-20 and my 95% pressure has mostly been 12-13.

I. LOVE. THE. SWIFT. FX!!!

It took a little while to fall asleep this time, but mainly due to the fan making some clicking noises. The CPAP machine they use at the sleep lab made plenty of white noise, so I turned off the fan.

I didn't wake up until I heard, "Good morning, it's 20 mins to 6:00, would you like to get up?" What an awesome mask. The tech is not permitted to give me my pressure but did say it was within the range I told him my auto has been going to.

I'll be posting my wares on the Great Pillow Exchange tonight.

glad to hear you finally found a mask that you like!!

If it weren't for my deviated septum, I'd be all over some of the nasal masks!

Glad you have a new mask you like! I finally acquired the Swift FX last fall and LOVE it as well. Pugsy had gone on about how great it was; I had just finally gotten out of the Quattro and into the Mirage FX nasal mask, which I loved and still use occasionally, but when I tried the Swift FX there was no going back...

As you have probably read elsewhere on this forum, if you experience any nostril soreness or irritation you can use a bit of Lansinoh cream (aka nipple cream). It is pure lanolin and will not harm the silicone. Don't use other creams. I personally rinse my pillows with water every few days and wash them with mild soap once a week. Unless you have a cold, I don't think they need more than that. A set of pillows lasts about a month, sometimes longer....

There are also some great products from Padacheek for this mask: barrel cosy (fits over the pillow barrel leaving the two pillow prongs exposed, it's nice and soft against your nose), and an over the head fleece cover for the part of the headgear that goes from the barrel to the top of your head -- very comfy. If you prefer something soft against your face and scalp instead of the silicone headgear, I highly recommend it.

Thanks Randy.

As we're moving into air conditioning season up here, what are some things I might consider to minimize rainout?
