Well yes, that is clear from you avatar.

Outside in the Fla sun with a drooping, wet hairstyle, jacket, tie, button-down shirt is a good bit dorky.

May I suggest with a different hairstyle and more relaxed avatar, no one would ever have objected to your signature?

I didn't want to ask this in a post because i figured that "Jim" didn't want to publicly announce where his DME was...but...I am in his area so I sent him 2 PMs indicating that I was looking for a new DME and wanted to know where he was located so I could stop in and get some of his TLC...he still hasn't "had the time" to reply. Personally ...IMO...he is not a DME.

Oh the joys of an unmoderated forum.

If you want to make personal, off topic affronts, I suggest using PM. We really don't care.

If you don't care, then don't read and don't post. What about that is so hard to understand?

Speaking of PMs (since we've digressed so much already...), my new PMs are winding up in some folder that I created, even though I have deleted rules that would tell it to anything, let alone random PMs, in there. Weird.

I care because the topic is CPAP Basics - 3. I really don't care about any of this counterproductive junk. Is that so hard to understand?

Oh, for goodness sakes, just skip over that which you do not like.

Don't propose changes to this great forum. I just recommended it to a guy yesterday who needs this forum badly (prescribed CPAP years ago, never tolerated it and now is being treated by a therapist who doesn't have a clue).

Hey guys...especially newbies who are upset about threads going off topic.... if you stick around here long enough you are going to find out that this happens fairly often. Sometimes we even get into some real pissing contests and it gets ugly (been in a few myself ) Sometimes it's just a gentle meandering off topic.
Point is...it's going to happen and not much you can do about it. Choose not to follow the thread or just skim over the stuff you really wished wasn't there. The more you try to tell people what to say or not say...the more they are going to do just the opposite. Cold hard fact of life and human nature.

The forum owners let us self moderate. They pretty much stay out of things unless it gets really, really bad and I have only seen that happen in a handful of thread. There are no hard fast rules about off topic stuff. The same thing that let's you say "stay on topic" let's others say things you deem off topic. Freedom to say what is on our minds.

Now there are other cpap forums where things are heavily moderated but they have their own negatives also.
Can't talk about getting the provider manual just to see the clinical setup menu much less discuss changing anything.
Can't offer any links to a product..only educational links that those moderators deem worthy.
Can't do a lot of things..no real freedom.
Jim's book link wouldn't even have been a discussion because no link would have been allowed. Simple as that.

To be clear, I have little issue with off topic subjects, those I can ignore easily if I choose too, but oftentimes they are also enlightening, so nothing wrong there. There is a huge difference between off topic and personal affronts. I find it interesting that it's OK to discuss whether Jim should or should not advertise his book in his tagline, but if someone calls someone else a turd, then we are just supposed to ignore that. That's not the way I ride.

It seems like self moderation = no moderation then.

BTW, if you don't like my post, just don't read it; oops too late!

I suggest you learn how to use the "foes list" and start building up a long list.

Posts by all those on your list will be hidden from your view.

Make your own ride.

Actually I didn't mind your post and that's why I said "Hey Guys" in general. Just trying to explain to newbies who haven't seen this type of stuff before that it won't be the last time you see it here. It's just the way it is.

I don't like personal attacks either...those I call the pissing contest for lack of a better word.
They are a fact of life here also. Not pretty for sure and always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

So I really had no problem with what you said....I was just hoping that maybe people would quit attacking what someone else says just because they don't like what was said. Telling someone what to do or say is a good way to keep the pissing contest going in full force. Keeps on feeding the very monster you wish would go away.
Everyone wants to get the "last word" in.

I have been on this forum 4 years next month. We have had this very same discussion many, many time including back when the forum first started. It's not going to change. Human nature is not going to change. Same pissing contests, same name calling, same everything. The more people draw attention to it...the bigger the monster becomes.
Ignore it and it will go away.

And with that...I am in the ignore it stage with this issue because I feel like I am banging my head against the wall trying to explain something that to me is easily remedied by a bit of common sense.

There's always going to be something someone says that someone is going to... take offense to...not like...get pissed off about.
Go ahead and tell them not to say it or do it is the best way to feed the very monster you wish would just go away.

Self moderation is the way Johnny wants this forum run...he pays for it...it's his sandbox and we have to play by his rules.

You miss my point. I actually did not suggest that he not say what he said, or that he should say it in another way. His voice, his right. I am merely suggesting that if you have something personal to say, do it in private, not in public. That is a guideline on every other social media site I have visited. Odd that this common sense thing is absent here.

I am not going to joust at windmills. If this is how you all have come to accept it, then fine.
