I don't think Nan's problem is with the discussion itself, but the fact that the majority of people are incapable of having a POLITE, COURTEOUS or RESPECTFUL discussion. Despite all of our advances in technology (internet forums and such) overall - human beings are still infantile in their attitudes and behaviors.
I only read the first page of this thread before I bowed out, shaking my head. It's NOT the discussion itself, but the "I'm right, you're wrong" attitude and mentality that piss off those of us that understand and apply common courtesy and respect to all of our dealings, including anonymous encounters on the internet.
On this particular topic, I have very definite opinions. But there are a ton of people that strongly disagree with me and I am smart enough to understand that neither side is really right or wrong. So, I won't argue about it because it's pointless, stupid and counterproductive.
Nan's "childish" comment most likely stems from the fact that she expects adults to understand common courtesy and NOT behave like children arguing on the playground.
If you're going to bash Nan, it would be nice to at least understand what she's really irritated about.
Thanks Maddie...that is exactly what I meant...some folks here right now are only interested in argueing and being very insulting to each other.
I'm erasing my post....therefore, I won't insult anyones intelligence.

22 million on food stamps when he took office 4 years ago - 44 million on them now ...
Just on that basis alone - with ObamaCare passed and mindfully knowing they said we HAD to pass it to see what it had in it, the country has officially turned to Entitlments first, common sense afterwards...
No entitlment receviing voter is going to to vote to take away... with the how this country is shaping itself demographically its forever changed, in the wrong direction.
Santa Clause VS Honest, hard word, integrity and self reliance. ... Santa Clause wins everytime due to some social fairness doctrine and this "BORN" with the self entitlement syndrome.
True story - being served at a restuaruant my waitress brought up Being so happy about Obama winning. After a few rounds of drinks and a meal and my rebuttle she brought the bill... $40... I asked her to take a moment and follow me as I was paying the bill. I stood at the bar next to a total stranger, I looked at the waitress and gave her exactly $40 - I took $10 out and said to this stranger as I tapped him on the shoulder "Sir, Here is ten dollars, I know you did nothing to earn it but this waitress did - please accept it as redistribution - she worked for you it you earn it"
And I walked out to cheers.... and one jaw dropped.. hers..

Re: Oboma .. another term
Ya know... I've decided that this thread just might have made some sense if it took place before the election. At that time, ideas tossed up and back might have been a good thing.
At this point, it's a moot point... the "people" voted for Barack Obama as President of the United States for a second term. So, like it (as some of us do) or not, that's the way it is. I'm insured... but for my friends who don't have insurance, I'm so happy that O'care is in your future.
Why not move on to who will be running in 2016. My guess... Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush. Who will I vote for? Well, I have four years to ponder that question.

Re: Oboma .. another term
This is a Looong thread and hard for me to remember who posted what exactly.
But:.... someone (maybe V or VVV ??), sorry if it was someone else, asked WHY I posted my bitter post. A= someone before me in this thread mentioned something relating to veterans that tripped a sore spot with me. I loved my job in the Navy and everyone including my shop chief & even my CWO had me pegged as a lifer. I was interviewed on the JFK in the spring of '69 before we left the east coast for the Med. The CWO asked me about "shipping over" (re-enlisting) and to his shock I said I had 314 days left and was NOT. (even refused to go up for E-6, avoid temptation) He asked me WHY in front of the reporter and I told him medical care and that he was welcome to check my records, & I meant every word. I found out in 2007 WHY I my duty assignments changed and never flew as part of a flight crew. I failed a hearing test in 1968 and never told. I was also given assignments where I bunked next to where I worked, Most had a long haul from bunk to work.
Unlike many, I did not FLEE to Canada etc, nor was I drafted, I volunteered. I could have gotten a deferment, but I did not want one. When I came back, I kept my service secret from most of my co-workers, it was hard to hear the slams against vets while being one back then. Many (not all) at the VA still treat you like a thug or beggar. I signed a contract, part of it was I would give my life if need be & future medical care if I survived, I watched some of my shipmates go down (not survive).
I feel I EARNED my right to a reasonable (average) level of care & be treated fairly and with at least token respect as a human. if you complain about improper or poor care, you get black listed and/or labeled regardless of validity of your claim.
I am in Michigan and some other states are just as bad, but some are much better, I can NOT afford to move (own a home in partnership w/bank). I have done well considering I had been disabled since my late 30s and limited income. I was also very lucky I was able to work long enough after the Navy to get enough SocSec credits before forced to 'retire' early. (NOT my choice). I fought with the VA and civilian Fla Voc-Rehab to get re-training so I could continue to work, but both considered me unemployable. (MS can do that at a rather young/prime age).

Yeah -- we've been sold a real pig in a poke. Estimations now are that 30 million people will STILL not have insurance AFTER full implementation of O'care.

I may be one of them. There is plenty that still needs to be fixed. But we had to do something. More and more people were losing coverage. Employers have been outsourcing jobs to contractors who don't provide benefits for years. Costs of even employer subsidized insurance has been getting too high for others. And good luck figuring out what that insurance would actually cover or getting them to pay when you really needed it. I had employer sponsored coverage for most of my life but at this point I have little expectation of ever having it again.

I'm sorry your care wasn't better. And I'm glad you were able to get into the social security system before you were disabled. Does that mean you now have medicare?gomer wrote:

However the lapses in care you describe are not unique to the VA health system. It can take forever to get a proper diagnosis even with private coverage. It can be impossible to get a power wheelchair whether you need it or not. I agree that being blacklisted by an insurance company for complaining doesn't seem to be an issue - but if your insurance is employer provided and you complain to your employer about it or even let them know how much you are using you could end up unemployed.

Why yes, yes they do. Well, they lost that's why. Are politics this ridiculous up there in Canada? Somehow I think not. Nothing will change until people can actually support themselves with one job again, and not have to have 3 in order to pay rent. What is that going to take? Probably some regulation to discourage companies from firing American workers and outsourcing, and also a change in the attitude of consumers away from, "need lots of cheap stuff" to "I will choose to pay more for this because I know it was made in America".Elle wrote:Republicans seem so angry.
Meanwhile, the monied interests make up narratives about how it's the low-income people who are shrinking the middle-class, instead of the actual story about how the money is funneling toward the one percent, or out of this country altogether causing more and more middle-class people to slide into poverty. They then rely on the ignorant to echo that narrative. Then they cry "class warfare" if you dare to say this out loud. Don't believe me? Count how many posts show up accusing me of class warfare because I said it.
The Republicans lost because they chose a poor candidate to run. They lost because of their candidate's career choice. Firing people and sending jobs out of the country doesn't tell me, your average voter, that you are a good American and support the country that you are running for president in. It tells me that you are all about the bottom line, will say anything and do anything to make a buck, and you will sell America down the river in a heartbeat.

Great idea but if that's the way to do it, it's not fair for anyone that works and tries to better themselves. Jim
By rewarding hard work, you set a example for others (Goals), It's a lot like working for tips, if all the servers put their tips in a jar, 2 of them do a good job and get large tips, and the other 4 servers do a poor job and make little in tips, but at the end of the night the tips are divided equally, each person getting the same amount. It's not fair to the hard working servers, but it's also not fair to the 4 poor working servers, as they are taught that poor work is rewarded the same as honest work. The cure is meet them in the parking lot with a pipe, and get your hard earned money back! Odd's are they would be too tired from working hard, but also they should be in better shape from working hard, hope they have cameras on the parking lot, maybe we can watch on U-Tube. I'm rooting for the hard working! Jim
Probably the 2 hard working people that had their money evened out by liberal management, will be thrown in jail, then the workplace will only have the 4 lazy worthless workers, and not being to get and service anymore, they will be forced out of business. I hope.
