S9 Autoset Shutting Off
Re: S9 Autoset Shutting Off
It's the machine not the software. I was using RS v.3.14 earlier in June (was using Ramp then) and then updated to v4.1 a few days ago. All the data from both versions is stored on my computer. During the use of v.3.14 and v4.1 the machine just seems to record that 5-10 minute gap whenever. When I was ramping before, I know the machine must have malfunctioned because it would start back up from the set ramp upon the initiation of data recording. Auto start/stop has been activated and has been working since the beginning. I don't power off my machine during the night and uncouple from the machine only to pee if needed. I always look at the clock when I do this and the times just don't correlate with the gaps. What's up with this?

Re: S9 Autoset Shutting Off
A much shorter power blip might confuse the machine and not set off the alarm. Also a "brownout" vs. a "blackout" might confuse the machine and not set off the alarm. I don't necessarily think that's the cause, though.DoriC wrote:I also don't think it's anything to do with power blips because I have one of those alarms plugged in to wake me in case of a power outage. It's very sensitive and did go off a few months ago when we had a brief 5 second outage. I couldn't even see it on the data if I remember.
You don't happen to have a battery backup system, do you?
Free. Just send first class air tickets and a prepaid rental car reservation. I'll need a recliner to sleep in, too.DoriC wrote:@Arch, how much do you charge and when will you arrive here to do my checkup?

Can't believe you're asking that! Our wonderful aide went and bought this one at Radio Shack this morning and just hooked it up, they told her it would serve our purpose. It looks a lot better than the crummy cheap surge protector I was using which the guy at Radio Shack said wasn't working so giving no protection at all.
As for your accomodations, I will supply Mike's recliner which comes complete with cozy blankie!!

A few months ago my S9 Autoset rebooted during sleep. It woke me. I don't know what the issue was, it must have had a fault. It hasn't done it since.

Good. You do realize it will only power the machine for maybe a half hour or so if the power goes off, don't you?DoriC wrote: Can't believe you're asking that! Plug the power outage alarm into the wall, not the UPS.
Good point about the surge protector. Most of them have a light that will go out if it's not surge protecting any more. Everyone needs to figure out where this light is and how to check it. Lots of surge protectors have a little gadget inside that absorbs surges and often sacrifices itself in the process.
Good. Can I bring taco puppy along, too?DoriC wrote:As for your accomodations, I will supply Mike's recliner which comes complete with cozy blankie!!

Re: S9 Autoset Shutting Off
If you unplug the S9 to reset it, press the power button. The thing uses a computer chip that can run off nearly no power and the 24V->3.3V supply could keep the computer happy in sleep mode for weeks. Pressing a button will wake it up and it will drain all the stored power.
If you have a surge problem, Is it a window A/C or whole house one? Window units tend to be very noisy and in that case find the circuit breaker that your A/C and O2 generator are on. Unplug most things, plug a light in where the A/C or O2 gen is and start flipping circut breakers until it goes off and write down the position and then try the other devices include the cpap. They may be on different sides or on the same side. If they are all on one side, find an outlet that isn't on that side as well. Post a picture of your breaker box and someone here might be able to tell you which breakers on different phases which could help.
Another solution is plug in a long extension cord into an outlet on the other side of the house. It is not recommended by any CPAP manufacture or your local fire brigade but it can reduce some types of power surges and if it works, tell us and we can let you know your options such as a UPS or house surge protector. Your S9 power brick doesn't care about high voltage spikes. Mine sees 377 Volts all day every day. It will care about power dropouts but those tend to show up with dimming light bulbs (if you have any of the old type left)
Your best option is get a bit of card board and cut it out about the size of the machine and stick it on top. If its not there in the morning, you don't have surges.

Re: S9 Autoset Shutting Off
My S9 autoset was doing the same thing for months. I first I thought i was shutting it off in my sleep, but after moving it to where that wasn't possible it was still happening every night. I took it in and they reviewed the data, and called resmed. I ended up getting a new machine. Since February I have not had that issue. My humidifier decided to quit few weeks ago and they replaced that as well. I worry when i am not under the warranty.
Re: S9 Autoset Shutting Off
I knew the light on the surge protector wasn't working anymore but I didn't think about it! Dont know if it's coincidence but the data for last night looks perfect, the machine sounded even more quiet, best night in a long time!archangle wrote:DoriC wrote: Good point about the surge protector. Re: S9 Autoset Shutting Off
Update! After another night of intermittent shut offs, I called for an electrician (we live in a condo assoc so that service is provided). Guess what, we had a faulty outlet with a half broken wire which was causing intermittent "electrical vibrations"( I think that's what he said). Anyway, he replaced the outlet, checked out everything else and last night was uneventful! Arch, why didn't you think of that!

Wow DoriC, I'm glad you figured it out... the last thing I would have thought of was faulty wiring in the house...
