Continuation of Zeo Conversation

Post by Kairosgrammy » Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:43 pm

So I understand more about the zeo. Does anyone know what the optimum deep sleep and rem sleep one is suppose to get or is that an individual issue. Sorta like some folks need 9 hours a sleep and others get by on 5?

I think 20-30% REM, 10-15% Deep is common. I don't know what normal is, nor do I find what "you are supposed to get..." is.

Normal results when I googled this last year
non rem stages
1- 5%
2- 45%
3-12%
4- 13%
---------
Non-REM- 75%

REM - 25%
I think I've seen elsewhere that around 25/25 for rem & deep is good. I'm sure if you go to Zeo.com you can find the information you are looking for.

Another person posted in another thread said that the % is not so important as him getting a quantity of hrs of REM and another quantity of hours of Deep, irregardless of how many hours he slept.

Curious why you started a new thread to continue an already ongoing "conversation".

I got my Serial->USB cable and flat serial connector parts, put it together, plugged it into my Zeo with the 2.6.3R firmware (explained here: http://www.sleepstreamonline.com/rdl/starting.html) and downloaded Dan's ZeoScope (https://github.com/dancodru/ZeoScope) and it worked the first time! Squiggly lines! I'm not sure what I'm looking at just yet (I'm confident I will), other than the raw EEG from the headband, a plot of that split into different frequencies and a classification of sleep stage (which has difficulty determining that I'm awake... maybe due to my new found suspicion of narcolepsy). I probably should put it on my son's head to see if his looks different, presuming he's not a narcoleptic too . Learning. Going deeper into it.

I find wading through long threads to be frustrating. I'd rather start a new one particularly if I want to go in a bit of a different direction.

I figure narcolepsy can't possibly be fun but then again, in my more sleep deprived state, I often wished I had narcolepsy at least the kind the lets you sleep a few hours at night. I guess though the only way we can get good treatment sometimes is to teach ourselves and the only way to live with our problems is to not be too serious about them. Buying a zeo is tempting but there is also a part of me that says, I already have a hose and a mask and a chinstrap. How much more can I fit on my head or be tied down to. When I checked my sleep results yesterday I just knew there were going to be a lot of ahi events and there weren't. I guess my rem and deep sleep weren't so hot.

Great job Max! I'm quickly starting to regret ordering the Zeo Mobile...

Look forward to hearing what you learn Max. Not sure where to watch for it though. Maybe you should start a new thread for Zeo real time data.

If I have narcolepsy, it's very mild. I'm not quite ready to put that on my maladies list yet, tho if diagnosed, a drug might help grogginess, but I have high BP, so I may be stuck. I want to know if the Zeo is "spoofing" me at sleep onset and with the real-time streaming, I'll probably be able to tell. I'm wearing it watching my brainwaves as I do various things, or not, like right now and I'm reading on the web a lot about alpha, betas, delta, gamma, etc. and what they mean. Yes, Lizistired, I may start a new thread when I have something useful from "stuff" like this: LOL !

The chief purpose of the lines is that they are impressive, pretty and squiggly. LOL. Top one is raw brainwave from Zeo. Middle is the strength of various frequencies found in the top one, the bottom one is real time sleep stages, on a 1 second basis.

Oh, and if I stick the Zeo sensor on my chest, I get an EKG !! Well, not an official one, but I get a heart beat trace! Later, I'll play with that, so I can monitor for arrhythmias, which I have once in a while.
