Unsupportive Spouse (A Brief Rant)

I am so thankful for the CPAP machines now as I know they have given me many more nights just to watch him..... because I love him and not because I am afraid he will die if I don't.

This does not read like it was written by someone who beats her husband with a cast iron skillet!

I said I love him; that does not preclude me from wanting to bash the living you know whats out of him as I know you others feel the same way about your spouses...we all aggravate each other to distraction at times but.......there is still always the love....and when we can joke about things like this it makes the relationship even better and more solid.........

Cast iron skillets.....ya he wears a form fitted one on occasion; sometimes justifiably so and then again at times just to make me smile.....

"Give the little fellow" a tussle behind the ears......no problem mistaking the two of them.....one has four legs and the other has only two........and about 450 pounds difference in weight........he's still sitting behind me and now he's arguing with me about the weight statement......I don't, I don't, I do not........seeeee, this is how the skillet gets to come out of its prominent place on the shelf. THUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!....oh how I love that sound....he'll be quiet for a while now so I can go and fix supper......

My spouse THINKS he is being very supportive of my CPAP treatment. There are some things, however, he just doesn't get.

For one thing, he doesn't understand that it is difficult for a new user to fall asleep while using the darned thing. I have sleep-onset centrals and I find that the machine goes nuts shoving extra air at me with the "pressure pulses" until I fall asleep and the centrals go away. Maybe I've just been too much a good soldier and not complained enough.

I have had a hard time with the time change this year. I went to bed a little early last night. I had just fallen asleep when he came to bed and whisked the covers off me (part of an ongoing joke over the years about how we steal the covers from one another while sleeping). This woke me up immediately. I was furious. His comment when I yelled at him was, "Oh, come on, it was funny!" It took me an hour to fall back to sleep after that and the extra batch of centrals put me at AHI 8.0 for the night. I slept in for an extra hour (I didn't get up and make coffee for Himself today--I figured he could brew his own today) but still feel like crap.

I made him promise solemnly this morning that he would never play such a prank again, and emailed him the wave form report so he could see its effects on me, but I can tell (we've been married 20 years) that I he thinks I'm just being a demanding b---- with this one.

I got no sympathy for people who give people with serious medical problems a hard time. None. Your husband obviously does not take your sleep apnea seriously and thinks its a big joke.

Our whole group of friends were going to a St.Patrick's Day Dinner Dance in our Clubhouse and "I wanted so much to join them, forgetting for a moment how uncomfortable Mike would be sitting there all night and not being able to dance, we loved latin dancing. We went at it for awhile until I came to my senses and realized how much I was hurting him by reminding him of his disabilities and limitations. Definitely not worth it. Sometimes we just want things to be the way they were and play little mind games with ourselves which is obviously what your dear husband was doing at the moment repeating your private "joke". Funny, but I understand. The end of my story is that it was reported back to be that the band stunk and the corned beef and cabbage was too tough to eat!

Never underestimate this forum. It has powers well beyond sleep apnea that can heal the heart and soul. Whenever I think I can't play this hand I've been dealt anymore, I come here to be rescued. They never fail me.
