Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
Do you think for some of you the problem is not getting enough sleep?
I had an opportunity to wake up naturally (i.e., not with an alarm) for 1.5 weeks, and I felt better in the morning. However, I noticed I was sleeping almost 9 hours a night!

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
Less than a month on apap, and at this point I feel like I've just swapped machine-induced hangover for med-induced hangover, but nonetheless, oddly, I do detect a pinch more energy during the day, despite thick-headedness, enough to encourage me to keep with it. I should add that I'm not convinced that my sleep problems are due solely to OSA, as I have had host of other health problems that grew out post-shingles virus complications, especially fatigue, but as the sleep doc said, 'well, let's at least treat the problem we can control for now.' Makes sense to me. I'd take a few centuries in Purgatory for a few hours of decent sleep every night right now, since life without any decent sleep is like the 4th ring of Inferno.

I rarely wake up refreshed on APAP or before. I just have to ease into mornings.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I awake just fine, but become very sleepy around 2pm and end up falling asleep around 9 pm on the couch.. My doctor says I need another sleep study, but my insurance has run out..I have already had four sleep studies over the three years I have had sleep apnea, and all they do is change the pressure, so I told him I do not have $1500- $2000 for you to tell me that again.....Has anyone tried nuvgil or something like it?

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
Usually, I wake up refreashed and ready to go. Usually, that is except for these "shorter" days. There is just something wrong with waking up when it is still dark outside. In fact, for several months prior to the days becoming shorter I was waking at 5:00ish - without an alarm, in a good mood, rested, and ready for whatever the day would bring. Now, for the last 2-3 weeks - days are really short and it is dark here until 6:00ish, I don't want to get out of bed until daylight. But, when I finally MAKE myself get up - I am generally rested and refreshed. hmmmmm - could this be part of Seasonal Affective Disorder?

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I'CPAP initially made a significant difference, then during winter lots of moisture got into the mask despite a tube wrapper and running the tube beneath the blankets. It felt as bad as before CPAP, but in October discovered the Aussie Hose and this all but eliminates it except (as I found out) at on or below 8 degrees Celsius (about 46 F). The ClimateLine in the S9 may work better....
But since October this year, I've been waking refreshed almost every day and the few days I've had where I've not woken refreshed have been because of reasons other than OSA.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
Before CPAP (only 2 weeks now) I woke up refreshed almost always. That was my problem, it was only after a few hours of sleep where I tossed and turned that I would get up in the middle of the night feeling like I had a full night already and had no desire to go back to bed. Thats partly why I got the sleep study. I heard that my life would be shortened because of this. I got plenty done with my homework and my employer gave me more responsibility and a new title because I seemed to find the time to research stuff at night that no one else could find time to do. Now I am on the CPAP and am always tired. I still feel like the first few hours are better than the rest but I don't get up until 7 hours into it now so I guess its a good thing (not for my job) but I am always sooooo tired now. I think the last two nights have shown some improvement. I have a new mask that allows me to toss and turn without the noisy leaks. It has been determined through this forum that my Doctor and DME have not given me the best machine and I am working on that with them. For now, I have to hope that time will improve things. I am also doing what I can to eat better and work out moderately every day. I lost some weight at first and think that was helping. Since CPAP, I have been stuck at the same weight but the holidays do that. I am under the impression that if I can get a good nights sleep, my belly will respond to diet and exercise better. Anyone out there have experience with that? Its been rough for my wife too. She is having a difficult time getting used to seeing me hooked up to a machine. Is there a support forum for spouses?

Not really a support forum for spouses... but we have a spouse or two that posts on here... most notably is DoriC.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I wake up refreshed every day due to CPAP.com!SleepingUgly wrote:How often do you wake up "refreshed"? Let's define "refreshed" as not at all tired, no desire to keep sleeping, and ready to start your day. Do not count insomnia, whereby you may wake up early in the morning, can't fall back asleep, but you did not get adequate sleep and could not make it through the day on that kind of sleep.
Personally, I'm sure I did wake up refreshed at one time in my life, but I have no memory of it, EVER, except briefly decades ago due to a medication side effect that unfortunately attenuated.
Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
Oops, voted "never" before reading the OP that early morning insomnia doesn't count - that's a huge part of my fatigue factor, which I think got worse with CPAP.
I think I just have a hyperactive nervous system or something. Any little sound (not noise), itch, too cold, too warm, wakes me up.
Never get into a deep sleep.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I just had another sleep test done to make sure Rx was correct and to maybe get a new cpap. I think I did better when I first got my cpap, but not so much now. I would be afraid not to use it though. I don't want to go through choking and gasping for breath anymore. Refreshed or not, I think I will have it put in my coffin with me.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I have started on the CPAP about three months ago! I must say I have seen no difference in my sleep.
I think I slept better before I started using CPAP! I'm tired, my legs are tired and feel heavy with some
pains at time. I feel dizzy and no energy from the lack of sleep. I'm hearing all the great stories on how
CPAP has helped, I'm stilling waiting to feel a difference. There are times I sleep about 6 hours and I feel
worse than when I sleep less, very strange!
