Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?

Post by SleepingUgly » Sun Dec 05, 2010 8:50 pm

How often do you wake up "refreshed"? Let's define "refreshed" as not at all tired, no desire to keep sleeping, and ready to start your day. Do not count insomnia, whereby you may wake up early in the morning, can't fall back asleep, but you did not get adequate sleep and could not make it through the day on that kind of sleep.

Personally, I'm sure I did wake up refreshed at one time in my life, but I have no memory of it, EVER, except briefly decades ago due to a medication side effect that unfortunately attenuated.

I don't think I ever woke up refreshed either. I just thought I wasn't a morning person. I have to pour mass quantities of coffee down my throat before I can move in the morning. If I try to rush I dress myself funny.

Yes, most of the time. There was certainly a time when I didn't...years actually. But once I got used to CPAP and got my numbers under control sleep well and wake up refreshed.

Sure I wake up every time I roll over (because of the mask...). But I go right back to sleep within a few minutes. (For all I know there may be times I don't wake enough to remember it.)

I've been on Cpap for 13 months and the last 3 I have felt very good on awakening.
I have energy all day, and don't yawn. Taking a nap no longer enters my mind.
My AI's averages from 0.5 to 1.5 an hour.
Coming back from the dead was slow for me, but I made it.

I know I am napping less, but I am still awaiting that morning freshness.

Not since I had to switch to the Hybrid 'cause I couldn't maintain that velolingual seal in the back of the mouth & became intolerant of straight CPAP pressure; before then, I slept a solid 8 hrs without interruption. Since then, I've had lots of nightly wakeups or for me lots of events (doesn't take many for me to feel lousy), so waking feeling refreshed isn't common any more. It's much worse since 29Jul10 when I fell and damaged my shoulder and have to sleep on my back...I'm so looking forward to side sleeping again!

I remember waking up feeling "refreshed" under SleepingUgly's definition---long ago in a place that now seems far, far away.

Now, and for the last five or six years, if I can simply wake up NOT TIRED and NOT ACHY, that's a GOOD DAY. Wish I was having as many good days now on CPAP as I was having last summer before CPAP. But "refreshed" in the sense of ready to get out of bed, ready to face the day--"bright eyed and bushy tailed" is the way my family describes it, that hasn't happened in a very long time and not at all since being on CPAP.

You set a mighty high standard there! Last time I remember meeting that description I was in my mid 20's and was up daily at 5am to get a mile run in before reporting to work at 7am. Ran another mile to end my activity packed days at about 8pm. Doubt I'll ever see that woman again, but I'm worlds better than when I was at my worst (thanks to CPAP). Haven't given up hope of getting close enough to get a glimpse of her though. I always feel the need to add a disclaimer so as not to discourage newbies with OSA, and note that OSA is not my only sleep disorder and other health issues are present.

Hello,
I have been on Cpap for about 13 months now and the improvement that I see is that my energy level is a lot better and my shortness of breath has become less and less. I do not feel what you call refreshed as I have to drag myself out of bed every morning and spend about 30 minutes trying to function. Then I start to get my energy and do well until about 4 in the afternoon and then I am done. I don't expect much more than that as it is so much better than it was....I will never have the wonderful sleep that I had years ago. It is gone and I can never reach that quality of sleep again. Boy would I love to have one nite to feel that way again. All in All I feel blessed that I can funtion as well as I do. Even before starting Cpap I never really got sleepy in the day time,,,I just had no energy. I know I would feel a whole lot worse wihout my Cpap. Well its time for me to go to bed and cuddle up to that little machine that sings to me everynite!!

I voted "always refreshed". (And I thank some remarkably knowledgeable posters for some great advice given on this forum a few years back!)

Certainly a bit of an exaggeration, but thinking back many, many months, I can't recall a morning when I didn't feel pretty sharp and alert.

Pre xpap, I rarely woke up feeling alert and with it. Back then, I had all the typical yucky symptoms that we all know so well.

Life's good.

Never. I still don't make it through the night with my mask in place. Haven't been able to do a thing about it since the insurance ran out.

Rarely. It did happen once last week. It was amazing! I can't imagine what it would be like to feel like that every morning! I could accomplish anything! Alas, most of the time I wonder why i even bother going to bed. Most times I am sleepier when i get up than when i retired...........

Not a morning person. I was better at getting up about a year before OSA diagnosis - but slowly my natural "morning bear mood" has re asserted its self.
Now I love to drift in the morning but of course the dog needs to go out. I know people do this morning thing because I was once married in the '70's to someone who would bounce out of bed at 5 am to run a few miles and make us breakfast when they returned.
