encore viewer for PR System 1 available
Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
Well, I thought we would be starting a new thread, but ...
Disclaimer: I am a computer-literate CPAP newbie (one month tomorrow night)...
I received it today from youneedsleep for $95 plus $12 shipping/handling. I attempted to install it on my personal Vista Ultimate 64bit desktop. I complained almost immediately about not having an x86 processor. The only option was to exit the install. I then sucessfully installed it on my Dad's Vista Home Premium 32bit desktop w/builtin card reader.
Some observations:
1) My version number is 2.0.23.0.
2) There is no tutorial on the CD. There are 4 files on the disk: the install .exe, an icon file, a .inf setup file, and a .sfv file with in the main file the install uses to extract. The help system inside the app is basic, with no tutorial available there or through the program's menus. If someone finds a tutorial, please let me know.
3) The app supports multiple users, but I did not test this.
4) The "standard" 12page report was produced. The same report that I got from the doctor's office.
5) The report was save-able in .PDF format. Then it can be emailed.
6) The only program "Options" are a checkbox for whether the user wants a confirmation prompt prior to data transfer and what units to use. The unit choices were: hPa, cmH2O, and mbar.
That's basically it. Please let me know if anyone has any specific questions and I'll try to answer them.
Thanks,
Redeye

you can change the GMT setting through EP 2.2 software. Perhaps the Encore Viewer has the same feature?

I just received a PR System 1 today...it's my entry into the world of Apap. I wondering how can I view the data? My unit does not have an SD card, then installed a modem to plug into the phone line instead.

In the Phillips-Respironics site it doesn's says it works with Winsows 7. The information I pasted on my thread comes from Respironics site; I know in some places who are selling the software they say it works with Windows 7.
It would be interesting to know if somebody with a computer with Windows 7 has been able to install it. For sure we know it needs to be a 32bits software is Windows 7 32bits? I'm a out of information I'm still running XP on my computer.

Hi cpapernewbie,
I knew that you could change the GMT offset from EncorePro 2.2, but I am told by Respironics tech support that that capability is not available in Encore Viewer 2.0. In my case it doesn't matter because the DME had set the internal clock to the correct time for the Pacific Northwest. Still, the clinician guide shows that it is changeable in a setting, but at least in my case with firmware version 1.22, the setting is not visible to me. Why Respironics removed this is anyone's guess.

Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
Windows 7 is available in 32-Bit or 64-Bit. 64 Bit is faster (arguably, it's more technical than I want to go into here), but it requires compatible hardware to run, so if you own Windows 7 you may not know which you have. Generally, expensive new computers (last six months or so) will run 64 bit, inexpensive new computers will run 32 bit. To find out which you have:For sure we know it needs to be a 32bits software is Windows 7 32bits? I'm a out of information I'm still running XP on my computer.
(from MS web site)To find out if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, do the following:
Open System by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
Under System, you can view the system type.
If you are running 32 bit, then you should not have any problems. If you are running 64 bit, this will be considerably more difficult. If you are running Windows 7 Professional or higher (Ultimate, Enterprise) then you can run 32 bit XP mode and run the software that way. This will not work with Windows 7 Home edition (or Starter). I will post more on this if there the demand exists...
I have the software coming in this afternoon and I will post more after I've played with it a bit. I will be happy to help anyone in any way I can, but I do not have access to a 64 bit Windows 7 machine at the moment, but I may be able to get access soon if I need to. I use Mac OS X (which I can use to run 32-bit) at home and we use XP Pro at work, but I may be able to call in a few favors.

I hope no one minds if we morph temporarily in to a computer forum. Is this (running in 32bit mode) possible from Vista Ultimate 64? If so, basically how? Thanks very much. The CPAP forum will return shortly...

Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
As I said in an earlier post, this software worked perfectly last week in my Windows Vista Basic which is 32 bits. Today my husband tried to install it in his Windows Vista 64 bit and it would not work. Same message as posted above. "Needs an X86 processor." When he called the technical support for Respironics, he was told the software only works on the 32 bit as it is the most common.
Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
I'm sure they'd tell you that it won't work on 64 bit Vista/7, but I'm guessing that I can find a way to make it work... I take it very personally when my computer won't do what I want it to do...
I'm going to research and see if I can find a way to make the system work on a 64 bit system. Chances are that in a couple of years we will ALL have 64 bit computers, and I don't want to have to buy an upgrade (or worse, not have access at all).
I think I can make it work in an unofficial capacity at least... I will report what I find out.

Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
I really hope someone can figure out a way to FORCE this to install into a 64 bit system. (not a 32 bit virtual machine mode, a real install in the 64 bit system)
I suspect the only thing REALLY holding it back is backwards compatability with the OLD card readers. If you have a PR System 1 and an SD memory card reader that works with your computer, there should be no hardware conflicts for the software to worry about.
Its the 32bit drivers for the OLD card readers thats holding it back, I'm almost sure of it.

Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
Blake is absolutely correct... 32 bit hardware drivers are absolutely incompatible with 64 bit systems, and there is no way to headfake that. Unless a 64 bit driver for a piece of hardware has been written, then it will not work on a 64 bit system. Period.
For those of you with the old card/reader, you will need to give up on the install. You MAY have some limited success with XPMode, but it is VERY flaky and doesn't work consistently well.
If I can make this load on 64 bit, it will only work with System One systems (with SD card readers). SD Card readers are readily available starting for around $5. Sometimes they're even free if you buy an extra SD card. Email me if you need to know where...

Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
Bad news, folks... I'm not having any luck at all getting this thing to load on 64-bit Windows 7. The holdup is not because it's looking for something that isn't there, it's because the software is simply looking at the hardware and deciding not to load. It is something that could concievably be beaten. One would either have to decompile and play with the original programming (illegal) or make some low level tweaks to the operating system. Both of these are beyond my capacity. If a true programmer (I'm a networking geek, not a programming geek) wants to take this on I'll do anything I can do help out, but it's beyond my knowledge level.
This leaves us with a handful of options.
Option 1: Acquire a copy of Windows XP (or Vista 32 bit or 7 32 bit, but I think it would work best with XP). XP can be set up to dual boot with Windows 7 64 bit. This involves dividing your hard drive and using part of it for Windows 7 and part of it for Windows XP. This will require you to give up at least 25 GB of your hard drive space to be used with Windows XP.
Option 2: Uninstalling Windows 7 64bit and installing Windows 7 32bit. 32Bit will probably work with all of your software. This involves backing up everything you have on your computer and starting over from scratch, and it will likely be slower in some circumstances than it is now.
Option 3: Upgrade to Windows 7 Pro or higher (if you have Home Edition) and download the XP Mode emulator. This allows you to run Windows XP inside a window on your desktop as if it is any other program. This is probably the best solution for most people. The cost for upgrading from Home Premium to Professional is $89.99 through Microsoft, which is very easy to do. You may be able to buy an upgrade for as little as $75, and if you are comfortable installing operating sytems this is a good option. If not, I would recommend buying it from the Microsoft web site. After Professional has been installed, it is not difficult, but it is time consuming, to install XP Mode. It is included in the cost of Professional, but it has to be downloaded and installed separately.
The good news, however, is that it seems (so far) to be very stable running in XP Mode. This is going to open up a whole new discussion. Perhaps I should move this to a newthread? I have a lot more to say about this but I don't know how much detail everyone wants. I'll be happy to put every asleep... Oh wait, isn't that the point?

Re: encore viewer for PR System 1 available
I know this will probably sound crazy, but sometimes it works in programs. If you don't want to try it, its understandable.
What if you install this in your xp machine, then copy all the program files from the xp machine and load them into a stand alone folder on your 64 bit machine. Once there, double clicking the .exe file in that folder *may* run the program. You might have to duplicate the file structure of the xp install for it to work (make empty folders that create the proper path to the same location on the 64 bit machine)
I wish I could get a copy of the program to try this out with. Problem is, I don't want to purchase it unless it works with my 64 bit computer. If it worked, or if I knew this would work, I would buy it...
