The current medical thinking is that the size of the belly is the best indicator of how weight affects health. An "oversized" belly means you likely have plenty of visceral fat (the fat deep in the abdominal cavity) and are more likely to develop circulatory diseases, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other problems. Some people can be "big" and have a slim belly and excellent health.ycartf wrote: .... One thing I noticed about the Wii Fit is that it is way off on my ideal weight. It says my ideal weight would be 171 lbs. I am 6' 2" with a large frame (where your middle finger and thumb don't come close to touching when wrapping your hand around your wrist bones at the largest area) and I weighed 205 lbs. when I got married 21 years ago (and was very slender). I am being more realistic and shooting for at least 225 lbs ... anything under that will be gravy (or lack thereof).
Many very slim people have oversized bellies that often lead to serious health problems.
Good work on the weight loss!
