I am so glad this question was posted! You would not believe how many of my patients ask me this question! Now from my personal use of CPAP, I can tell you it does not bother anything. We usually go to bed and cuddle for a while before I put the mask on anyway so if something is going to happen, it happens in that time the mask is off. Not saying she hasn't got frisky with the mask on, but you wouldn't believe how fast I can hit the off button on the machine!

I do find the mask intrusive. It does seem like that once it is put in place that is a sign that sleep is next on the agenda.

Will be interested to see other people's responses.

DSM
I'm late to the topic but quoting DSM as closest to my own experience. I have noticed the impact, mainly I think because my husband and I rarely retire at the same time and I'm most often first. The mask very definitely signals sleep (as did my previous exhaustion). It's just more awkward to change one's mind as it were (I'm awake!) and I think I'm left alone from courtesy. So far I have only once unteathered myself from my equipment. Early on it took me so long to reach non-leak perfection each night that disconnecting was a true issue. Not true any longer. I don't begrudge my state of affairs, I just perceive that maintaining intimacy might, as someone already said, need a change in habits and at times some judicious planning.

I was watching TV and just a few minutes ago there was an ad for an ED medication.....It went on to talk about the different times that you could use it. Then it states that "If you have an Erection that lasts for 4 hours or more seek Medical Attention Immediately!" Hell......medical attention my eye call the local news media!!!

Who would ever complain about that?

...now that I'm on cpap, do I get a sex life? I didn't have one before, but if one comes with cpap, sign me up!

I've read all about data capable machines and masks and heated hoses..........where does one get the sex life?

If CPAP is interfering with your sex life, please consult with your DME again because you have not been wearing the mask properly.

All Kidding aside, Just take the mask off or don't put it on in the first place. It's not like you get into bed and someone stops by for a drink and jumps in bed with you after your mask is on. You live with this person and can plan a little.

Maybe some folks LIKE the mask during amorous acts. Perhaps they want to role play Darth Vader and Princess Leia getting it on intergallactically.

Eeeeewwwwww yuck! That would be incest.

I agree with Patrick, what is the problem with four hours? Maybe some of those doctors and scientists should get out of the office some and have a real life.

And what would you do with the extra 3 hours and 55 minutes?

Yes especially for migraines - as soon as you feel one coming on you should get to coming... ummh bad pun warning.

Much to many peoples disappointment - vibrators are usually more effective and quicker - no one wants to go hunt for someone in the mood - RIGHT NOW THIS MINUTE other wise the window of opportunity is lost.
