I think your posts have been very informative and I'm also interested in the app you're writing as a ResScan alternative. I know how you feel, having had antagonistic replies from the same member as you, but I will certainly not let that ruin my experience here.

Ditto.
I for one, welcome you and hope you reconsider your decision to leave!

AdminTiger,

I too think that you provide valuable insight and would be interested in your development efforts.

I am a software developer too, so I would be interested and happy to share any tech info on reading from the smart card for the resmed.

Hi all,

So, I have a Belgian government-issue standard acr38u (-cfc-bli) unit that has worked very well on the generic ResMed drivers on my old Vista 32 bit OS.

Never had any problems concerning the dreaded "card in use" conflicts etc.

Now, recently I upgraded my OS to Win7 64 bit.... and the trouble began.
After downloading and trying nearly all driver versions of the ACR site (including 64 and x86 combinations) I finally settled for the 1.6.1.1 driver (which is hidden somewhere on the ACS site)
but can be found here: http://www.arena-solutions.be/downloads ... acr38u.zip

Upon detecting the USB connection, direct your setup to the location where you unzipped these files.
Do NOT use the ResMEd drivers if you have them installed, remove them prior to reconnecting the device.

Now the trick in Win7 to get the OS to recognize the cardreader as NOT in use, in my case, was NOT disabling any WiFi setting.
Windows uses processes and services, Win7 is no exception in that. Use Task Manager to open the services, click on the advanced button (right below) for services. The services are listed, along with their startup-behaviour.

Locate Smart Card service. This will be set to be running automatically on startup (default setting in Win7).
Why? I do not have a clue. Apparently Uncle Bill likes to have a process running in the background for all those millions of users without our beloved SC units.....

Now, the solution:
Set the Smart Card service to start up 'Manually'.

Exit all programs, disconnect the device, reboot, connect device, recognized hardware, point to the setup to the drivers you downloaded as mentioned above, start ResScan.
Insert your DataCard, check for lots of LED activity (blinking) and presto: device is now recognizing the card.
At least, that did it for me...

Now, I am off to bed, snorkeling away, knowing that I can once again read my stats tomorrow morning.

All the best from Amsterdam,

MadDawg

Try an SD compatible camera to read the card. My ResScan recognizes it fine!

Resmed S8 systems do not use SD cards.

G'day Everyone,
This, like many on this forum is my first post. I too have had to deal with this same problem, and so has my son. What caused me the most grief in the first place was that not being able to get it to work, I contacted ACS and spoke to their tech. He identified the correct driver for the reader, which I duly downloaded. Still didn't work. After a lot of trying, I got the reader to work on my wife's laptop, which is "Intel" based (mine is AMD) so I concluded it was either a CPU problem or a BIOS problem. Wrong on both counts. It was the wrong driver! The correct driver will fix your problem and you can download it from ACS website [ http://acs.com.hk ] http://www.acs.com.hk/index.php?pid=drivers&id=ACR38 Or from my website http://wooziegraphics.net/readerx86.zip for 32 bit operating systems, OR here http://wooziegraphics.net/readerx64.zip for 64 bit. So now after many hours (days even) of trying, my reader works fine and is a great help and guide for my therapy.
There is nothing like a good night's sleep...and this is nothing like it!

Secret,

Try this. Go to Task Manager and find the process "devicescan2.exe". Kill it (while ResScan is not running). Put the card on the reader (contacts upwards and properly aligned) . Now start ResScan. This works for me when it is stubborn. Sometimes I have to change the sequence a little bit and start ResScan without the card on the reader and then insert the card. I am running XP SP3.

Good luck.

Hello,

Date at this moment :15 juli 2010 ( in Belgium at least )

Having the same problem with the ACR38 card reader, I discoverd in the heat of the already heavy and long battle on and against my computer, to find a solution, this topic on the Internet.
Now I hope that, in the time between Sun Dec 27, 2009 3:09 pm ( last post above) and today, a solution has been found.

So secret agent girl, if you're still somewhere out there, I beg you on my 62 year old knees, please tell me the solution. ( maybe....don't wait to long because my knees are killing me )

Thanks
Kind regards,
Guy
PS: (appologies for my Englisch )

Hello Bill,

My problem:

When I connect the card reader to the computer a pop-up message appears : " new hardware found - ACR38U card reader "
then the green LED from the card reader starts flashing.
and then ...the computer freeses/blocks.
The only way to get out is to restart the computer with the restart - button ( without the card reader).

Cheers,

Guy
PS: Apperently I " tumbled in" somewhere in the middle of this topic ( Dec 27, 2009 ). So I missed 6 monts of comments when I wrote my "cry for help"

As of today, I spoke to two of the vendors mentioned in this thread:

http://www.securetech-corp.com/acr38.html
http://www.smartcardsupply.com/Content/ ... /ACR38.htm

Both vendors told me that unfortunately, they no longer have any stock of the older version with is compatible with ResMed, and the vendor is not supplying any units in the older version either.

So, as of Aug 9th, 2010, these vendors can not get what we need.

Wow, thank god I found this thread after nearly tearing my hair out trying to figure out why the ACR-38 I ordered from eBay simply would not work with ResScan. Turns out, just like Secret Agent Girl, I received the CCID version. Just wanted to check and see if anyone had figured out a solution to the the problem in the last few months. I'm now looking around for a non-CCID version if anyone has any pointers.

Thanks!

The official card reader is available. Probably easier than finding the right version of the card reader and making an adapter. I bought mine from this Australian store (and I live in the US):
