Stan,

I'm in Ottawa and just received my trial equipment (I insisted on a ResMed Autostart II /w H4i humidifier and a Respironics Comfort II Gel Full Face Mask). I'm not certain I'll adjust to that mask but I'll try swapping it out on Monday if I get no more satisfaction over the week-end. I don't have my bill with me but as I recall The Sleep Therepy Center (?) charged me $1595 for the machine and another $300 for the mask. They also quote $30 for a hose cover and I suspect that if I had asked for a package of wipes, they would have pointed me at the casino for the the free handi-wipes.

1. ODSP only covers $780 as I understand, but what is "ADP" as referred to in your posting?
2. How much did your setup cost?
3. Did it include the humidifier?
4. Can you forward me a copy of your clinician's manual which should be the same as mine.
You got hosed on the machin Stan and should complain to assistive devices.

The Ontario Government has capped the price on these machines at $1040.00 regardless of the make or model they supply you with. ADP pays $780 leaving you with $260 difference. And a Resmed comes with a hose and Tiara (crappy) nasal mask. You should be ready to go for $260 and not taxes. My insurance covered $275 for a Resmed Activa Mirage LT mask which is very good but the next one will come from the US by mail order where they are sold for $89.99.

As far as I'm concerned it SHOULD be legal and proper to post the clinician information on sites like these. Because, since the machine prices are capped, all the suppliers try to sell you "service packages" that cost anywhere from $250 to $350 which includes pressure changes, loaner machines if yours needs repair under warranty, etc. THAT is a scam. It takes them 30 seconds to change the pressure if your Doctor says to change it and they deny you the right to change it yourself. Instead they make you pay for ever single thing they do to the machine if you don't by the "plan". And from what I've found, no major medical coverage will pay for either the plan or the adjustments.

Tyropita said, "And I will have to order at least the card reader from cpap.com.

"

I have the Australian version of the Elite II and it's a great machine if you don't want an auto but I'm not too sure of the benefits of having the card reader. The Elite II doesn't register apneas when the pressure setting is at or above 10 cms (unless accompanied by snoring) so that all my daily readings show are HI's about 1.0 to 1-5 and 0.0 apneas together with mask leakage. The reports from the reader show exactly the same material so the only benefit that I can see from my expense of the reader and software is a printed record .

That may become helpful over time but I don't think I'd waste my money on a reader if I could do it all again with a fixed CPAP machine.

Apart from that, if you do get a card reader, read the instructions carefully. The card goes into the card reader in a different manner to that in which it is placed in the Elite II. Very confusing and my lack of results produced vile language until I understood that one should read the instructions!

I don't have the clinician's manual for the machine but there were instructions within the box for suppliers to remove this before passing the box to the client, I understand from this forum that mail-order DMEs in USA do not remove that manual. The software disk does have a PDF file of a clinician's manual but I've never bothered reading this to date.

Regards...
Machine: Resmed Platinum II Autoscore (probably equivalent to Elite II)
Humidifier: H4i
Mask: Activa LT mask

Say what? Maybe it would be a good idea to read the Clinicians Manual after all!

Hello All,

I am a newbie to the forum.Let me thank all of you for the collective wisdom and the advice!!

I am in Hamilton,Ontario Canada .The company has given me the quote of Resmed elite II NCPAP system with heated humidifier(1610 minus 780 ADP portion=830)Resmed ActivaLT nasal mask medium(275 $),CPAP countour pillow speep aid(80.00).After my research through the forum and internet prices(CPAP.com),the above prices quoted by my canadian vendor sound ridiculous. They are just ripping off I feel! .Do we have to buy through these vendors only?
Can we in Ontario buy from the CPCP.com and how reliable is that? Can we get the ADP rebate if we buy on our own?

Also is it important to go through a trial before actually purchasing the machine and mask? Then have to pay the cost of renting as well.

Looking forward to the advice from the experienced members. Thanks in adavance.

cpap.com can no longer ship to Canada. Do you know someone in the US that can forward it to you?

It isn't just CPAP.COM........it's ALL sellers of ResMed products. It's a ResMed (corporate) restriction.

Other than that little problem, they're VERY reliable. Most of us have purchased from them for years. They're also the host of this forum.

Pashu,
I'm from Guelph (very close to you). I just got a very similar set-up to you for quite a bit less. The Elite II & humidifier was 1040 - 780 ADP for my portion $260.
The Resmed Activa LT I paid $130 for a total of $390. I then bought the software, card reader & extended warranty for additional $. You needn't pay that kind of money. Since we can only do this every 5 years in Ontario, I will be buying additional masks etc from cpap.com and have them sent to a U.S. mailbox company. You can PM me if you want to know where I got my stuff. I don't find the people that knowledgeable where I bought my stuff, but if you already know what you want, get it elsewhere.

Hi Pashu,

Welcome to the forum! First, I would say that as mentioned above, the capped cost of the CPAP machine in Ontario is $1040, with ADP paying $780, so you should only pay $260. So if they are charging you $1610, they are taking advantage of you. My Resmed S8 Elite II cost me $260 (after ADP), including hose, humidifier, and a FlexiFit 405 nasal mask (keeping as a spare). My trial (4 weeks with a Respironics C-Flex) was free. I'm in Kitchener, and went with ProResp (proresp (dot) com) as my supplier, and they seem very accommodating, and great at answering questions. You may want to consider switching suppliers - I checked, and there is one in Hamilton.

Since CPAP.com can't ship ResMed to Canada, I would say that the machine you would have to purchase from a supplier here, and they'll take care of sending in the ADP paperwork. You can buy all of your other equipment from CPAP.com. I just called CPAP.com and they didn't think it would be covered, because they would be considered out of network. The ADP site says they will only help pay for equipment that is purchased from vendors registered with the Assistive Devices Program. So I would say that CPAP.com wouldn't be registered.
