Re: ResMed Elite II Clinician's Manual?
How long have you had it? If it's been less than a month, I'd try to get it upgraded to at least the Elite II.Biguglydude wrote:Well crap! MOST DEFINITELY!!! Call your insurance company. Ask them what local DME CPAP suppliers they are contracted with!! Hopefully, you will have the option of more than just your current one. That gives you some bargaining/negotiating room. One of them should want your business bad enough to provide the Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR. But get on the stick! You are running out of /return/exchange time!

Canada is great place for camping, and also a great place for "authorized vendors".slideshowstan wrote:I just got my S8 Elite II this morning and fited with a Mirrage Quattro mask
I am also in canada, Brockville ontario on ODSP
and I have found if u walk into these stores with no info at all they will give u the lowest of the low
...
I'm a happy camper
I'm from Ontario too and the government Assitive Devices Program (ADP) is being taken for a ride along with users.
I just got a S8 Elite II (as a special request), and Quattro Full face for 30day trial testing.
I will have to pay $540 for a mask/machine, and ADP pays $780.
On top of that they want $400 for clinician fees if I need their services over the next 3 years.
My question is this. If I get the usb cable and software for $260usd, have access to this forum, and a computer/health physics background, is there anything the clinician can really provide me that I can't do myself?

Subject: ResMed Elite II Clinician's Manual?
I'm in Ottawa and just received my trial equipment (I insisted on a ResMed Autostart II /w H4i humidifier and a Respironics Comfort II Gel Full Face Mask). I'm not certain I'll adjust to that mask but I'll try swapping it out on Monday if I get no more satisfaction over the week-end. I don't have my bill with me but as I recall The Sleep Therepy Center (?) charged me $1595 for the machine and another $300 for the mask. They also quote $30 for a hose cover and I suspect that if I had asked for a package of wipes, they would have pointed me at the casino for the the free handi-wipes.
1. ODSP only covers $780 as I understand, but what is "ADP" as referred to in your posting?
2. How much did your setup cost?
3. Did it include the humidifier?
4. Can you forward me a copy of your clinician's manual which should be the same as mine.

Spit:
ADP = the Assisted Devices Program, which is run by OHIP. It subsidizes the cost of durable medical equipment for Ontarians, including xPAPs. ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) is a separate program which may provide additional funds, beyond the ADP program, for eligible Ontarians.
Your DME should handle all the paperwork etc. for the ADP program. The amount you pay should be AFTER the ADP cost - that is, if the machine costs $1200, and ADP covers $780, your out-of-pocket cost should be $420. (Don't forget that the machine and mask are eligible medical expenses which can be claimed on your tax return for the medical expense tax credit.)
I don't know whether you have insurance or not, but the price you paid sounds really, shockingly high.
ControlFreak: I'd TOTALLY skip the $400 fee in your case. If you run into trouble that you feel you cannot handle on your own with the support of this group and the software etc, presumably you could approach the DME at that point. Right now the $400 fee just sounds like the crappy optional extended warranties people are sold on TVs etc.

Re: ResMed Elite II Clinician's Manual?
Thanks for distinguishing between the two programs MoneyGal; I was aware of the $780 credit but thought it was under ODSP. I should have been clearer in my post, that the DME had reduced my payable amount by the $780 credit but I am still incredulous that the total costs are so much higher than that available on the internet.

You will need the ResMed ACR38 Smart Card Reader,ResScan Data Card and ResScan 3.7 software to be a controlfreak. My question is this. If I get the usb cable and software for $260usd, have access to this forum, and a computer/health physics background, is there anything the clinician can really provide me that I can't do myself?
Manual is in a .pdf file in the software.
Get it.Use it.Enjoy it.

Re: ResMed Elite II Clinician's Manual?
Well, I've about had it with this DME place. I've completed my first month and want to buy one of these. This Escape model seems to work good. I am part of an HSA High deductible insurance plan. Which means I pay for all my medical bills (at the insurers negotiated rate) untill I get to my deductible then everything is 100%.
I'm paying for this out of my pocket right now and if I hear one person from the DME place don't worry about, the insurance will take care of it...........(sigh). Insurance Scammers!
I'm renting this machine. DME said I have to rent for 3 months then have an option to buy. The insurance company said I will be renting to own until it's paid for. I took it in last week to have the pressure checked, I thought it seemed to be getting louder. It took them 5 minutes and said everything was fine. Then I get a bill for $65. I'm still arguing over that one.
I don't own this! I'm renting! It's 3 weeks old and you want to charge me to check something I think might have an issue? This thing is going back soon. I looked at several places on the internet and found some good prices. Some places want a prescription and others don't. Why?

Re: ResMed Elite II Clinician's Manual?
A CPAP is a medical device and thus needs a prescription for purchase. I wouldn't buy from a place that doesn't want to see your prescription. You can get a copy of your prescription from your DME or your doctor.Biguglydude wrote: I looked at several places on the internet and found some good prices. Try the new Resmed Mirage Activa LT mask if you are not a "mouth breather". The design of the nose seal is unbelievable and ccmfortable.DyannaK wrote:Hello, I just recently started on My CPAP journey. I have been using my Resmed machine since January 8, 2009.
