Severity of your OSA
What level of severity was your OSA diagnosed at?
Mild = greater than 5 to 15 AHI
Moderate = greater than 15 to 30 AHI
Severe = greater than 30 AHI
Just wondering what the stats are for our forum members.

Re: Severity of your OSA

Re: Severity of your OSA
When they told me they saw 400 events over the course of 4 hours of sleep data, my first thought was "no wonder I can't get up in the morning!"
Re: Severity of your OSA
Good poll. This should be very interesting.
I think it already points to the reason that the members here are:
very serious about their therapy
are educted about their therapy
work to make their therapy work.
.....get alittle crazy... because of their therapy.....
We have all experienced some nasty bumps in
the road that brought us here......and
don't want to go down that road again.

Re: Severity of your OSA
You haven't considered severity born of desats.........
Re: Severity of your OSA
Interesting results so far - over 80% of 18 people in the 30+ category.
As one of them, it certainly made it easier in the early days to get people to take me seriously - which is sad for those under 30+ because as we all know, you can have serious impacts from OSA at any level, depending on other factors.... such as desaturations, sub-scoring events, and non-apnea/hypopnea causes of arousal.

Re: Severity of your OSA
I don't know if everyone has that information. I figured most would know what AHI they were diagnosed at. And the AHI less than 5 being standard for "normal" by insurance and sleep professionals thought that this measure may be easier to relate to. But you are right, it is the O2 desats that really determine the true severity of our condition.JayC wrote:You haven't considered severity born of desats.........
I was Dx with 102 AHI (99 AI + 3 HI) and had O2 desats down to 60% ... looking back, I'm surprised that I was able to survive.

Re: Severity of your OSA
38 events per hour and had O2 desats 73%
The time has come and lit, I am too tired to work yet too poor to quit...
Re: Severity of your OSA
I looked over my report and I had 34.3 events per hour and my lowest O2 was 82%

Re: Severity of your OSA
1st Sleep study early March, 2009:
AHI: 45.8
Low SpO2: 78.9%
According to my CPAP, my last 7 day AHI is now 1.5 (!)
So this is what "normal" feels like.
Man, I wish I would've gotten this diagnosed correctly when I first started complaining to my doctor about sleep in 2000 !

Re: Severity of your OSA
First sleep study in October 2007:
AHI 106.7
Central RDI 21.7
Low sPO2: 79%
Cheyne-Stokes respiration
As a previous poster said, my sleep study sure made a lot of puzzle pieces fall into place. Definitely an "a-ha!" moment.

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.
