Help with installing EncorePro

I recently got a M series APAP with the card reader and Encore Viewer which I installed and it worked fine. I wanted to install Encore Pro so I could run Analyzer (which I don't have yet). I have EncorePro from and old RemstarPro I had. I don't have the installation instructions any more. I did read Derek's installation instructions. viewArticle/Encore-Pro-Respironics-CPAP ... stallation

When installing Encore Pro it would only let me install the advanced option because as noted at the top of that page "a previous version of Encore Pro has been detected. Please select one of the options below". The only option available is "advanced". In the next screen it installs the software which takes a minute or two. When it stops it gives me an option to change the directory it is going to install in. The next screen has two options to install. Database (which is already checked and I can't change) and EncorePro (which I have tried checking and also not checking). On the next screen "Server Select" the option for "Install new server" is not available.

Below that the "Database server name:" is highlighted with one option and I can't change it. It says "GARYSLAPTOP/ENCOREPRO" for the database server name.

If I pick next it runs a message "attempting to connect to database server" for a few minutes then I get the message "Connection failed - A valid logon with administrative privileges is required for this database server.

I have never finished the install wizard.

I never had a problem installing Pro before. It was not on this hard drive. It was on this machine but I have had a hard drive crash since then and a clean install of Windows XP so I have no remnants of that old install, Just Encore Viewer and whatever the install wizard has put on in the several attempts I have made. I am thinking what I need is a clean install. I have gone in and deleted the files and folders that Pro put on and gone into regedit and deleted the two software registry entries for Encore I found there.

Any help would be appreciated.

The instructions you are looking at are for Encore Pro 1.4i. There have been 4 revisions (that I know of) since then and I think some things are different at least for 1.8i. If any of the SQL data base is still there or was reinstalled with the operating system you will more than likely have to clear it out before it will load

I am only going to speculate but Encore Viewer uses a lot of the same things as Encore Pro but I bet your installation is detecting the Encore Viewer pieces and thinks it is running into a version of Encore Pro. In order to use Encore Pro, I suspect you need to remove Encore Viewer.

You also need to spell out what version of Encore Pro you have, what is your OS (XP or Vista) and whether your new APAP is the cflex or the aflex model m series. These are needed for the more technical people who frequent the forum to help you out and see if the version of Encore Pro you have can even be used with your APAP and computer.

You need to get rid of all of the SQL servers. I found many, many more places it had installed itself in addition to the places it was supposed to. It took me awhile to find them all and delete them but once I did the new install did install correctly with no more error codes!

For anyone else trying this. The problem was that I needed to remove the SQL database and program (at least that fixed it). And, bap40 you are right that SQL is all over the place and doesn't remove (is not listed) with add/remove programs in the control panel. Encore doesn't remove so well either.

Basically I had to uninstall encore viewer, delete the files for encore viewer, delete the files for encore pro that the wizard installed even though it said it had not finished and had not changed the system. Go into the registry and remove all entries for SQL and Encore. Delete the files for SQL (after deleting the registry entries or you can't delete all the files as they are being used). Then the new EncorePro install ran OK but would not read the smart card.

I then updated the drivers under hardware manager directing it to the drivers for Pro which were older. I got a message, that said basically "did I want to overwrite the newer driver with the older" and I said "yes". This may not have been necessary but I got an error reading the card in EncorePro but, then I found the EncorePro software was set on a serial device (not USB).

I guess the moral of the story is don't install Viewer if you are going to want Pro later. I took several days and about 8 hours or more experimenting and researching. I guess I could do it in under an hour now.

Jules, I have Windows XP Pro and Respironics EncorePro 1.8 on this machine.

It all works now. Now all I need is James Skinners software (Analyzer) which is why I attempted this.

I can't get a response when requesting James Skinners software (Analyzer). It is supposed to e-mail directions to get the software. I tried giving two different email address (for me). I heard he may be on vacation. I get the message:

Request Sent
You will receive an email with the download instructions.

If for some reason you don't receive the email within 30 minutes,
please try registering using a different email address.

Sounds like you are in control again as much as can be expected. I hope James Skinner will respond soon.

I asked about the version as we have people who think any version of Encore Pro will work with any machine or OS. I know for example, if I were to obtain a new machine (m series) or new computer with Vista, I would have to update as I am running EP 1.4 and using a "tank". I know 1.4 uses an older version of SQL.

FWIW -

EP 1.5 came out for the tank Auto Bipap

EP 1.6 came out for the m series when the m series first came out.

EP 1.8 came out for the m series Aflex machine and for Vista.

Encore Viewer can allegedly do all of the machines (at this time).

Hey, I've got a question. I posted the same thing a week ago, and never found a solution. So it looks like you've done it.

When you say to go into the registry and remove all sql stuff, can you be a bit more specific?

I know my way around computers, but I thought there were more sql things than just Encorepro stuff. That is, I don't want to delete anything I shouldn't in the registry.

I'm really wanting to install this program. I had it working, and two days later it died.
