Has anyone tried using Vicks vapor rub for congestion?
I always have nasal congestion at night but this week I have been dealing with the crud going around so I decided to try some Vicks vapor rub around my nostrils. Wow, its much better then saline rinse or anything else I have tried. Has anyone else ever tried this??

No, I haven't tried it. But I wanted to mention another product you might want to try. Its all natural, supposedly. Its call "Ponaris". A bottle of the drops is about $16. You can get it otc, but they usually keep it behind the pharmacy counter. Its a little pricey, but "all natural". My ENT said that NASA uses it for their astronauts.

Growing up with vicks
When I was a little kid and was stuffed up with a cold, my mom would rub my chest with vicks and then put a warmed towel over it when I went to sleep. The heat of the warm towel warmed the vicks and the fumes would help witht he congestion. I also know an ex-boss who used to use vicks on his lips and also applied it inside his nose when he had a cold.

						Well I can honestly say
That the vicks right under my nose has been the best thing I have tried so far. I have used strips, tape over my mouth, saline solution and the Vicks is the best!!

Vicks Vaporub is not a decongestant. The cooling sensation from the aromatics makes you think that you are breathing better. It is all an illusion. Also, the ingredients in Vaporub can damage your mask.

Vicks does sell a decongestant nose spray, it has the same active ingredient as Afrin.

Vicks Vapo Rub brings back warm and fuzzy memories... my mom would do the same. Rub some on my chest and put a warm washcloth on it. Then followed by Ginger Ale and Campbells Chicken Noodle soup and saltine crackers.
I love the smell of it, too... lol!

The gentleman at the Mayo clinic may not have his information completely up to date.
I am looking at a jar of Vicks VapoRub Ointment that I bought yesterday at the drug store (with an expiry date of August 09) and on the front in a red box it says the following:
Nasal Decongestant / Cough Suppresant

Recently, someone posted on here about using some vapor pads, cut into quarters and placed near the air intake. I had a cold recently and thought I'd give this a try so off to Wal-Mart I went. Near the vaporizers in the pharmacy I found some Vicks VapoPads. Then right next to that I found a waterless vaporizer, intended for use with these. The waterless vaporizer is really just a small warming plate. I found it worked great.

That sounds interesting. I am alittle confused as to where the "air intake" is exactly? Is that where the filters normally go? Hope this isn't a silly question, I'm relatively new to this whole thing and if I try it. . .I would like to get it right.gl wrote:Recently, someone posted on here about using some vapor pads, cut into quarters and placed near the air intake. Thanks.
That's right. The air intake is where you put the filters.
