essential oils
Thanks for having a special on the two new oils--I've sent payment by paypal and am really looking forward to receiving them! I am definitely enjoying my deluxe starter pack. I find I'm using Paradise most, and am up to two drops, from a start of only a mini drop with a toothpick! Love it!

(copied from my post elsewhere... it really belongs here.)
Based on the experiences of some here, I thought I would try the Pur-Sleep essential oil diffuser starter kit. I went to their web site and placed an order. Cutting to the chase, there was a huge overcharge ($190.40) for shipping due to a problem with the web page order programming. All this finally got resolved, between my phone calls to VISA and Bret's calls and emails. Bret very kindly offered to send me a starter kit to make up for the inconvenience. I accepted his kind offer, and the kit arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, I have a cold now, but will try this when I am not congested. The unit is well-made, convenient to use, and came well packed. This should make cpap therapy much more pleasant foe many. For people (like myself) who are thinking of using the 'clear' oil to lessen congestion, if the oil works, this could be a quick and inexpensive way to avoid constant nasal spray usage.
I will let the group know. And hats off to Bret and Pur-Sleep for going to a lot of effort to resolve this (and staying polite throughout), and a generous offer to make up for the problem.

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.
Bret,
I just ordered the Deluxe Starter pack so I will have a 'back up diffuser' along with the one from the beta test. Also all nine oils since I have not found one that I don't like yet! I am looking forward to "comfort", "paradise" and of course the new "cream" and "fresh".
Since starting to use Pur Sleep Essential oils I have never fallen asleep so fast! I wake up sniffing for more! I am now using 4-5 drops with no problems at all. I can hardly wait to go to bed and put on my mask so I can breathe in the aromas that put me into a comfortable sleep. Thanks for all you do, and I am looking forward to even more essential oil combinations that will target specific issues, such as insomnia, no dreams, restless sleep, etc.

Wow! Jeff--good for you! From some of your earlier threads I gathered that you've been having serious insomnia problems for months on end despite taking all kinds of sleep meds... Isn't it amazing what a good night's sleep can do?jrfoster wrote:Since starting to use Pur Sleep Essential oils I have never fallen asleep so fast! I wake up sniffing for more! Pur Sleep great for stinky hotel rooms
My regular motel was booked up last week and they only had one room left. When I got there I discovered that it was a smoking room. It absolutely reeked, especially when I turned the air conditioning on. After gagging for a couple of hours I went to bed with a couple of extra drops of Clear and didn't smell the room until I took the mask off in the morning.
Good stuff Bret.

Okay, even though my computer crash took out my Encore Pro program, and I've been without it for over a week now, I've continued to use my machine and Bret's Pur-Sleep system. I've been trying all the diffferent essential oils. (I forgot and left the card out of the machine last night) I finally got my program re-installed today and read my numbers. The last 6 recorded nights my AHI has been 0.9, 0.6, 0.6, 0.8, 0.8, 0.7. Was this as a result of the Pur-Sleep system? I honestly don't know. I do know I sleep more comfortably than ever before with the CPAP machine. I sleep deeper...........I've been dreaming like crazy! And I feel more rested during the day than I have in quite some time. And all of that I credit to the Pur-Sleep system. Sure wish it had been my idea! For the price, I think everyone should at least give it a try. If it doesn't work for you, you haven't lost much at all. But I think you'll like it a lot!

Re: Pur Sleep great for stinky hotel rooms
My neighbor, a fellow hose-head, spends almost as many nights on the road as he does at home. He really dislikes the fact that his cpap smells just like a motel room. Glad to hear it works to solve that problem.pedroski wrote:My regular motel was booked up last week and they only had one room left. When I got there I discovered that it was a smoking room. My two new oils arrived today: fresh and cream--and they smell great! I'm going to have a hard time deciding which to use tonight!

Howdy,
Please forgive me for coming into the conversation way late but have we discussed the possibility that these oils will accumulate in your lungs? I'm assuming that oils are difficult to get out of ones lungs once they are in and could cause problems. Is this concern unfounded? Why or why not?

Yes Johnny, this has been discussed in the earlier pages of this topic. I have discussed it with my MD also, and even though he isn't "up" on cpap, he doesn't see a problem.

I wanted to add my two cents.....again I love the diffuser! I had gotten a new mask and a new machine and I was relieved I didn't have to put up with that new "plastic" smell that is associated with new equipment. I ordered the creme and the fresh and love both of them.....interestingly, I've been using the full amount recommended. I haven't had the issues that others have had with the oils being too strong.
I'm thrilled with this product and thank you Sleepguy!!

Fair question, Johnny. It's a bit of a misnomer to call these "oils." Essential oils are called oils for lack of a better term. While they are hydrophobic (like traditional oils) they are actually 100% volatile, meaning that the actual molecules are extremely small and naturally evaporate into the air over time. I'm still working on some more official documentation on this point (perhaps dr bandage or others could chime in here) but there's no risk of lung accumulation.johnnygoodman wrote:Howdy,

The essential oils would be absorbed into the blood stream--no different than what happens to the aromatic part of any food or flower that you inhale. It's also worth pointing out that we're talking about extremely small amounts of aromatics--one to three drops, most of which will come out with the jetwash or be left on the pad by the next day.
In any event, all of the essential oils used are listed among the essential oils that the FDA generally recognizes as being safe for human consumption (including ingestion). Essential oils are a common food additive/flavoring and are also commonly applied directly to the skin (e.g., lavender lotion, massage therapy), where they are absorbed by the body through the skin.
Several have posted on this thread that they have presented this idea to their doctors, including a lung doctor, and none of them expressed safety concerns with it.

I just ordered mine a few days ago, and can't wait to try it. But yeah, there has been an AWFUL lot of rather fervent discussion on this stuff over on the other board too, and I really don't see what the big deal is. Lord knows you breathe in much worse all day long every day, and granted, I'm not an expert by any means, but I can't see how this would be any different than air freshener.... only this is safer because it doesn't have the chemicals that air freshener does.
Just my .02c, but good grief...
