LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! I've used the diffuser now for 4 nights and it's one of the best things to hit the market. Thank you Sleepguy!

Hi, it's me again, the Guest (not "hiding", just haven't gotten around to creating an account yet)
That's funny, you seem to have plenty of time to write full page responses using quotes from several members .

Yup! Discussing this stuff is interesting. Creating an account is boring. I'll get around to it eventually, though! I'll stop procrastinating... tomorrow! =)

I like discussing controversial topics on this message board, but not with people who don't register a userid.

I prefer breathing the great scents of the essential oils used in the Pur-sleep and not having to smell the nasty products coming from my little pooch.

I also feel that the air quality around the globe is not that great and it gets deep into our lungs as we all take in breaths of this "fresh air".

I use Pur-Sleep oils myself and am enjoying it. I am wondering if Bret could talk to a pulmonoligist and seek his/her idea of inhaling essential oils through a cpap diffuser.? Would be interested to hear from a specialist! Just an idea!

Sounds like a lot of folks like this system and I am considering it, but have some questions.

I have read on several other websites that Clary Sage should not be used by women who are pregnant or nursing...obviously, I hope, I am not a woman, nor am I pregnant, but does this warning apply to using these oils in the Pur-Sleep system? I also read not to use it while or after drinking alcohol. This more directly could apply to me. I looked on the Pur-Sleep website, but did not see any warnings like this, so maybe they don't apply for some reason in this case. I don't know much of anything about essential oils, but was curious if there were precautions that should be taken or occasions when this system should not be used. I did not see anything like this on the website, so maybe there's not?

If anybody could answer, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, this is a fair question. Unfortunately, when it comes to essential oils there's a lot of folklore out there, things that are repeated and restated just because some source may have said it once upon a time. There's a very good internet article (that I haven't found just now) to the effect that most of the health warnings associated with essential oils are just as unfounded as most of the therapeutic claims.

As for clary sage, it is on the list of essential oils generally recognized as being safe by the FDA (GRAS). There is no mention of any pregnancy precaution. The FDA does not include anything on the GRAS list unless there is affirmative evidence of safety; hardly every oil is on the list.

On top of that, the source that many people consider to be the definitive word on this subject, Essential Oil Safety by Robert B. Tisserand and Tony Balacs (Publisher: Churchill Linvingstone; Copyright: 1995; ISBN: 0-443-05260-3) contains NO such precautions for clary sage. In any event, the pur-sleep oils contain only 1-2% clary sage, an extremely small amount.

The clary sage plant has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years. The pregnancy precautions seem to have something to do with the traditional use of clary sage during labor and delivery. I don't believe there's evidence to support the precaution (though I suppose one can find almost anything on the internet thanks to Google).

deluxe starter kit

Post by Bellcrest » Wed Mar 07, 2007 10:10 am

Just received my deluxe starter kit in the mail. Took just a little over a week to get to Canada. The customs charge was $11.51. which isn't too bad as the shipping charges were quite reasonable.

I can't wait to get to bed tonight to see how it works. I am having a difficult time trying to decide which one to use for my first time.

I'll report back in the morning.

It a personal preference thing, but I have really grown to love the "spice". The clear is also good, especially if you have any congestion. I am really looking forward to the vanilla!!

I received my starter kit on Monday and was very excited to give it a try Monday night. I placed one drop of clear on the pad and hopped into bed. I lasted five minutes and removed the diffuser from my machine. Absolutely to strong for me. Last night I smelled the diffuser and it was still way to strong. Trying to make this work, I threw out the pad and grabbed the spice bottle. Instead of adding one drop, I placed one drop on a plate and used a toothpick and added a very small amount to a new pad. Climbed in bed and turned on my machine. Aaahhhh…bliss! Just right, with enough of the clear still inside the diffuser to make a nice aroma of the two together. I’m looking forward to tonight. So if you find the aroma too strong... Just use a toothpick and apply a micro drop of oil to the pad.

sleep guy, disregard my previous post. I do indeed have 25 pads included. See, I really am a mess when I don't get sleep.

Take care,
