I think the title is fine. If a person isn't interested enough to click on a topic called "Curiosity" that person probably won't post to this thread.

Hmm... that's a hard one. I'm a psychologist in heart soul and acdemic training (Ph.D. in that, and BA in special ed.).
I've spent a little more than ten years earning money by solving riddles - actually by being the CTO-CIO of a college where I live. I'm not employed right now (good time to get into cpap-user boot camp).
As a woman vis a vis a mostly male tech community I found half my time was spent in an uphill battle trying to get many of them to accept me as a thinking specimen of humanity.
I figured that if this is what I had to got through after giving my job title, women with less knowledge will have a much harder time - so - after I settle this apnea business, I'm planning to set up a tech support service (here in Israel), aimed mostly, but not exclusively, for women 40 years and older who want to use computers, but are literally afraid to ask...
First client is my 78 year old mom, whose deep sense of incompetnece is heartbreaking - but she's using email to write her (Swiss) classmates because those gals, the class of 45 (end of WWII) are having a 60th reunion in May...
Cognitive and emotional empathy will of course be part of the service...

This is a cool topic. I've always wondered what everyone did.

I work for a large technology company in Austin, Texas (gee? I wonder which one? ). Prior to that I worked for a state agency that gave technology grants to public schools. I really enjoyed that work but the "powers that be" decided the money would be better spent offsetting the outrageous budget deficit. Go figure.

In my spare time, I volunteer with the Austin Police Department as a Victim Services Crisis counselor, I teach karate to kids and adults and do the occasional self-defense seminar and I volunteer at a local food pantry.

I am an on-site Project Engineer/Supervisor with a private engineering/architect consulting firm working on multi-million dollar road/bridge projects in central Indiana. I have been doing this for over 16 years.

I have also for the past 6 years been in charge of the 2 year olds department at my church. Supervising and scheduling the adult volunteers of the 60 plus kids each week. Talk about wearing yourself out!!!...geeeeezzzz. But, what could be better than hugs from 2 year olds that crave attention!!

It is interesting to see how many "retired" folk there are in the forum. I am glad to have been diagnosed at the young age of 42. I have been on a CPAP for 2 weeks now and boy what a difference it makes. I actually look forward to going to work and church now!!!

I have a masters degree in clinical social work and spend my days in the critical care unit of a large children's hospital. I'm the guy who helps the parents of critically-ill children cope.

I also have a private psychotherapy practice -->adult individual, couple, family therapy.

It's really interesting to read all these posts. I have a subconscious habit of trying top figure out personalities and careers from what people write in their posts. I haven't been correct yet.

I began my career as a CPA with a major international accounting firm and spent almost 20 years there before admitting I didn't like it. Then I spent the next 20 years enjoying retainer executive search, starting my own small firm in 1979.

Retiring early at 59, I have devoted the remainder of my life to trying to serve my Lord, Jesus. That was only 12 years after becoming a Christian. At age 70 I am still hungry to dig deeply into Scripture and help in teaching small groups in my church. I praise God for my salvation.

I agree with you on the "2 yr old hugs". My husband of 43 years and I keep our 2 1/2 yr old grandson while our daughter works and it has been such a blessing to us. He keeps us young. The hugs and "runny nose" kisses are the best treatment in the world for anything that ails you. His 10 yr old sister gets off the school bus at our house each day so we get to see both of our grandchildren daily. We are truly blessed.

Well, let's see, in my short lifetime (hah,hah, what a joke) I've been a bank accountant, a stage actress, an extra actressin a few movies, a science fiction writer, a sf fanzine editor, an artist, a substitute teacher, a college biology lab instructor, worked as assistant kennel manager and groomer at a boarding kennel, a professional dog handler for about 25 years, and most recently I've been a dog judge, still doing dog/cat whatever grooming for a local boarding kennel, and still breeding beagles which I started about 10 years ago. Before that I bred American Eskimos for about 10 years, and Bassets for about 15. I have judged UKC shows for about 15 years and AKC for the last year. I'm currently licensed in AKC to judge Beagles, Bassets and Junior Showmanship, and am awaiting approval for Dachshunds and American Staffordshire Terriers. I've also judges several Rare Breed shows.

No, you probably won't see me judging on Westminster or the Eukanuba Classic, I'm not that high up politically speaking. It could be twenty years or more before I get that kind of recognition.

I have a Masters in Biology.I've been marired 39 years to the same man, a retired Wildlife Biologist for both BLM and State of Texas who is now a consultant part time. Our son is 32, has apnea, but hasn't gone on CPAP yet, speaks 4 languages fluently and works for Homeland Security. I can't even speak Spanish and neither can my husband. The languages our son speaks are Russian, German, Swedish and Spanish. Oh, and English, too.

Well, you all know what I currently do for a living. I am a respiratory therapist working in home health care. I have only been doing home health since last July- before that I worked in a hospital which was a level I trauma center and level III perinatal center. I LOVED working in the hospital! I don't like home health as much as I do hospital work, but it's all right. I like most of my patients and I work with a great group of people. I just don't like the business part of it. Anyone here know what I'm talking about?
I went into home health because I have a 1-1/2 year old little boy and night shifts, weekends, and holidays really started to wear on me. I'm also married and my husband is getting his PhD at the University of Illinois. We're big basketball fans!

Hi Heidi,

I just wanted to thank you for starting this thread -- we have some very interesting folks here, don't we!

I have spent a good part of my life in the nursery business (plants). My ex is a nurseryman, and I became a nursery professional the hard way -- by owning a nursery! I have also worked with computers at various stages of my life, including a stint selling Digital (then Compaq) services for a computer distributor in Arizona.

I am back home in California and life is good, the glass business is good, and I am going to lick the OSA thing!
