Curiousity??
Hello All;
I'm currently a Lyric Soprano, sing-when-I-can, church pianist, former Middle School Teacher-for-two-years (Chorus/General Music), former Training Administrator for HP Medical Education Center working with five biomedical engineering instructors and current Admin with the state DHR office after 2 year unemployment while looking for a job after teaching since noone apparently wants to deal with you once you've entered the classroom. Right now, I'm content with the state, but anticipating my newfound energy with BiPAP therapy and trying to determine if I want to resurrect my French and German skills, add Spanish and become an interpreter, build on a love of event planning and become a certified event planner or wedding coordinator with my own business or look into performing fulltime as a mass concert soprano (you classical music buffs know what I'm talking about . . . Beethoven Missa Solemnis, Verdi Requiem and the like) Does any of this make sense?

I am retired from the Department of Defense. Was employed as a linguist for them in various parts of the world. Spent a few years working with East African Flying Doctors, also as a linguist, until I got tired of trying to raise a family in tents. Was never meant to be a pioneer. After we permanently moved back to the states, I worked as a Speech Pathologist in the public schools - needed normal hours for the family. Retired from that, started a private foundation for handicapped children - ended up working more than ever. Sold out the entire operation to a health corporation and am now happily, totally, retired. 5 children, 4 grandchildren - including a set of triplets! They are all wonderful and I am glad that I can go home and sleep with my CPAP(Well, not really, I lied about that part)!
Ok, all the really smart people need to analyze what we have in common that turned us into CPAPers!!!

I am a retired technical rep. for large chemical company. Spent last 10 years traveling throughout southeast U.S. helping our customers solve problems with a variety of our products. Retired in '98 and went to work with friend in the home building/re-modeling business. Retired again in 04. Now my wife and I enjoy going camping and our 2 toy poodles.
What smart people we have here!!
I am retired, have been an owner of a child care center,a long time ago,in the seventies.
Then worked for a Sears Catalog store for about 12 years, ended up being a supervisor of a small store.
Then in 1990,opened up an antique store, had that for 3 years, then retired.
My husband passed away a year ago,so I moved to a smaller home,in the same area, have just finished moving as a matter of fact.
I belong to a genealogy society here in St.Mary Parish, and really enjoy that.We have just published a book on the Morgan City Cemetery, listing the 9,000 plus souls buried there. It was a great project, and the books are really selling well.
We had a home in Pitkin,CO,which I have sold.We enjoyed summers there.Made many friends from all over the country. Most people "on the mountain" were retirees.
Have had a Dachsund,Mini Schnauzer in the past. Now have my mom's dog ,a Fiest, used for hunting squirrels.I don't use her for that of course, but she is a good dog, about 10 years old.
I live in LA, the southern part , not far from New Orleans.
Live in a small town about 15,000, but so far have had good service concerning OSA.
I just find that the left side of my face has more wrinkles because of the postion I sleep in. And I don't like that, wish I could find a solution besides sleeping on my back.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Great idea! It's been really interesting reading everyone's responses. I am a licensed social worker working for the county Children's Services. Been doing this for almost 10 years. Rewarding, frustrating, heartbreaking at times. I bartended for 10 years prior to this. I used to be a supervisor for a major stock brokerage firm. Also had my own business (craft shop), secretary when I lived in Germany, and a receptionist. Talk about varied jobs!! Have a daughter in Lake Tahoe, son in Kansas (Air Force) and a son who lives local. Have 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild along with 2 dogs, a cat and last but not least, husband of 35 years.

Retired early and last incarnation was a partner in an antique business.
Am a Professional Board Person or more like, ''someone who has the time to serve others". Serve on various political committees within my county and state.
Best personal accomplishment: contributor to series of Vietnam war era materials and the book, DEAR AMERICA, LETTERS HOME FROM VIETNAM. Was proudly and surprisingly selected By the VV comm. of NYC, and had one of ''my letters'' inscribed on the Vietnam Monument on Water street in NYC.
Serve on several different hospital boards, and was a Literacy Volunteer.
Baby sit my husband. that is now my full time occupation!
So many of you have wonderful resumes, so impressive, mine is slight!

Sleeping With The Enemy wrote:Curiosity is getting the best of me. No one has to share this information but I'm just wondering what everyone does for a career.
Right now, I wipe runny noses and try to keep my 3 year old from writing with crayons on the wall. Then after 4 o'clock in the afternoon and on weekends, I'm a referee of my 9, 5 and 3 year old boys. I'm staying at home right now trying to recover from this OSA.
Otherwise I'm a LPN. I've worked both hospitals med/surg and nursing homes. Prefer hospitals.

fascinating thread!
I've been in the animation/film/video/online media industry for about 10 years, starting out as a coordinator for an art department and then working my way up to digital artist. The last year or so, I've been doing special effects for movies. I'm currently taking a break from the brutal entertainment industry schedule, resting up and sorting out this cpap business. Once that's squared away, I'll be looking into my career options. Maybe go back to school.

That's a good one. We all seem to be multi-taskers, but yet we can't seem to breathe and sleep at the same time!2listless wrote:Ok, all the really smart people need to analyze what we have in common that turned us into CPAPers!!!

For many years I worked for an engineering firm analyzing floodplain data and preparing flood insurance mapping and reports for FEMA. (Not an engineer, but did their work, which wasn't all that much engineering; I was a Geography/Urban planning major).
Worked recently as a marketing assistant preparing proposals.
Now working as a cartographic editor for a street map making company.
Also, as volunteer work, I volunteer with a restored historic church (dating to 1837 & built by freedmen) which is now a cultural center and small black history museum.

I think the title is fine. If a person isn't interested enough to click on a topic called "Curiosity" that person probably won't post to this thread.
I was fortunate in being able to stay home while our daughters were young. Started working as a teacher assistant at the parochial school they were attending when the younger was in third grade. My friends used to tease me that I didn't go back to work, I went to school with my kids!
Left education to try the big bad business world and discovered that I really missed the school setting.
This is my fourth year as a teaching assistant in a self contained behavioral disordered classroom. We have ten kids. I love every one of them. And if I had grown up in the situations they did, I'm sure I would have been in a "BD" class, too.
Three of my kids witnessed the violent deaths of a parent. A few are from the projects that have been closed in Chicago and have relocated locally. Most have family members who are gang members. Trying to keep them away from that influence is my key focus. I have the luxury of being able to spend time listening to them talk and they do share much information with me. It's not all pretty. I'm less than five feet tall and I have had to restrain two twelve year old boys this year. It is a stressful job and an extremely rewarding job, too.
I am grateful for the many technical people here. No wonder this forum is so helpful!

I am a semi retired lawyer, having taken a resignation package from the State government three year ago, largely due to the peculiarities of the government superannuation scheme I am a member (now beneficiary) of. However, two years ago I returned to work with another Government Department under contract to work three days a week as a Freedom of Information Officer in relation to a particular project that was related to a major legal case against the state that was finalized two months ago. I am therefore now at home again considering my options as I found working three days a week ideal. We have two sons, Jamie aged 29 and and Andrew 26, both now professional mechanical engineers. Jamie married three years ago and is well settled in his own home and Andrew will be married at the end of April. I am presently acting on behalf of Andrew and his fiance in relation to the purchase of their future home that they will move into the day after they return home from their honeymoon if all goes as planned. Come May, my wife (Chris) and will be "empty nesters".

And FORGET about chewing gum. If I try to sleep, breathe, and chew gum at the same time, I end up with bubble gum in my hair.GoldMedalSleeper wrote:That's a good one. Oh, wait, I don't have any anymore. Perhaps I can try that again without risk!
