OK,
One picture so I will need to get ready. An avatar huh, OK, now this is something that stumps me this morning, how to get a picture to mbe less than 80x80 pixels to be an avatar. Share how people! I could not many a neat picture to work. I know how to get into the message but not the Avatar.

Janelle,
Is that really you??? That is hilarious. I put on my new Aura and my husband demanded I take it off, he said I looked hideous, its bad enough you wear it in bed but not during the day.
If someone knows how to take a pic and change it into a avatar, I'd do it.
Marie, I think we are about the same size.

39 (and counting the passing days... sigh), 6'1" and 250 lbs. But I was 225 lbs last Thanksgiving. I love being married to Janet, but the one thing that has changed is, with other people in the house, I can't just come home and decide that I'm not hungry enough to be worth cooking something, because Janet's already had to cook for herself and the girls... so I'm gaining...

my bio
I'll be 54 next month, I'm 5'3", 220.
I was a high school math teacher, then a CPA, then a computer programmer (back in the days of COBOL and punch cards). Then I "retired" at age 31, when I got married and became a stay-at-home mom. I home-schooled my very brilliant only child, who is now graduating with honors from Princeton and heading to grad school next year. My husband recently retired, and if and when we sell our house in New Mexico, where we've been temporarily living (at an altitude of 6500 feet) for the last 20 years, we're planning to move back to Texas.
I've had heart arrythmia problems from the age of 4, and I suspect I've had sleep apnea for many decades, but worse in the last 10 years. I was diagnosed last summer with pulmonary hypertension, left bundle branch block, and enlargement of the right atrial and right ventricle. The cardiologist insisted I go in for a sleep study when my husband mentioned that I snored. I was found to have severe sleep apnea and I started Bi-PAP in August, and I'm extremely compliant, because I'm hopeful that it will reverse some of the heart damage that I've suffered.

I studied classical music in college. Then I started peeling potatoes in some good restaurants and ended up being a chef for twenty years in restaurants, hotels, country clubs and catering. At 42 I went to law school and I have now been a lawyer for about 6 years. I'm 52. I met a woman from Ukraine on the internet by accident about 6 years ago. We traded letters for about a year. She spoke no English so they had to be translated. I went over to visit her about 5 years ago and we spent a month traveling around the Crimea with her son. Day after tomorrow is our 4th wedding anniversary. Without question, marrying her is the best thing I've ever done. In addition to her many other contributions to my life, she kicked my butt for months to go to a doctor because I stopped breathing at night.

I'm 28 , 5'1" tall, and shop in the plus size section. I was diagnosed in July 2004 but did not start CPAP till January 2005. Original provider told me to lose 15 pounds and that the OSA would go away since I was diagnosed as mild. I was about 40 pounds lighter then. I've been battling severe daytime fatigue for about 3 years before I was correctly diagnosed. First diagnosis was depression, second was Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I've not been on CPAP long enough to determine if I may also have CFS in addition to the OSA.
Anyway, I feel like I've had OSA since my teenage years....I've always been a terribly loud snorer and even have woken myself up several times snoring. I don't know how my husband put up with me before I started CPAP. He said he sleeps better now too! (If only the dog would quit tossing and turning and snoring!).

Guess since everyone else is throwing out age & weight, I would too.
38 and holding, 5'7", about 175 (okay, more like 190, but I can dream, can't I?).
I think you can change a picture into an avatar, the problem is getting it small enough. 80 X 80 is a pretty small picture, not going to be very clear. I'll play with my digital camera this weekend and see if I can get one working.

For Avatars you take take any photo file on your computer, open it in whatever photo editing program you have, go to resize and choose pixels versus inches, etc. Size must be no higher or wider than 80 pixels. Reduce the resolution if you can to 72 dpi. Save the file as xavatar.jpg/gif and then go to Profile at the top of the page on Cpaptalk.com. This will open up your Profile. Scroll down to nearly the bottom of the page and there will be a window where you can browse your C drive to find the file (you DO remember where you saved it, right?), click on that and it will show the file path in the window. Scroll further down and click Submit and that's all there is to it.

This thread has been very interesting!!
I am going to be 65 and have been married almost 48 years and raised 4 children--the oldest will be 46 and the youngest will be 35. I obtained my RN degree when I was 40 and facing the soon to be "empty nest" syndrome.
I have since retired from nursing and now just help out a friend at her gift shop a couple days a week and I also do some volunteer work. I have most likely suffered with OSA most of my life. I just thank the Lord my present physician finally cared enough to look into the matter and had a sleep study ordered. Just since October I have already been able to decrease one BP medicine (I was up to 3 pills a day) and even with that much medication I was still having sporadic high BP episodes. Even though I don't like all the gear involved with sleep now I try to look at all of it as friends trying to help me. I am very thankful to have found this site with wonderful and caring people who offer such great help and encouragement which has kept me from feeling alone in my struggle in trying to adapt to this new way of sleeping.
My sincere thanks to each of you that post and share your experiences.
May God bless you with restful sleep.

Well, I started out teaching high school-English Literature and Latin.
I then took my classical education back to school for a business degree so I could spend my overeducated time enjoying the smell of piggies going to market. I sell packaging to food processors, mainly to meat packers. Oftentimes, I AM full of bologna!

OK, about time I contributed something other than bad attitude to my posts.
PM me your images, and I will produce 80x80 images suitable for avatars and PM them back. Yes, I'm serious. Yes, I know how many files I may end up doing. I just think it is a cool idea and I want to help.
I will also try to convert a PERL script I have to do this type of thing easily into a C-language DLL/executable that I can post and folks can be self-service for this. I have it pretty automated already using PERL on Linux cuz at work I'm always having to take different corporate graphics and produce smaller images for web pages to support product demonstrations. But, until I get that delivered, start flooding me with pictures and I will turn them around with 24 hours via PM.
Oh yeah, I posted what I do back on page 1 of this thread... Software architect for a rather large, non-washington based software company. I am mostly responsible for the systems we use for product demonstrations. 44 years old, 5'10", 195 lbs. Managed to lose almost 25 lbs in past year through sheer torture and deprivation. I have so many things wrong with me that the only thing keeping me going are my wife of 22 years now and our three wonderful children. These children are truly angels delivered to us by way of adoption from two different orphanages in Russia. We have two girls that are five now (three months apart in age) that we call our virtual twins, and the biological brother of one of the girls who is now eight.
I am darwinism at work and am (gratefully) incapable of perpetuating my defective gene pool; A true blessing now that I have the three most beautiful children in the world.
Let me have em'. I want an inbox full of images to convert by morning!
Jeff - blindly biased about my children? what makes you ask?

Curious
I retired from Geological Survey after 26.5 years. Retired at 47. Worked parttime at tanning/beauty shop for fun one summer. Then went into business with a "friend" on a convenience store. Loved it!!!! But, this is really good advise, never go into business with a friend. Got out with my money, thank God. She lost everything 2 years later. What goes around...
Now I am a caregiver for my mother. I do travel some to see my sons in Calilfornia and Tennessee (they pay - I go - lol). I am 5'1", 56 yrs. old and weigh too much. Nuff said on that.
Ya'll are a great bunch and I wish everyone great success. I did go see my RT last week and she changed my nasal mask - NO MORE LEAKS. This is really great. I have started dreaming again. Do I feel more rested??? Maybe a little - only be 3 nights. But I am not throwing my hose and mask any more. Good luck to all.
Signed,
Becky - hoping I dream something really good tonight.

I just had my first night of sleep study. My questions is, when I have the gastric bypass surgery and lose weight, will I still have to wear this equipment? I have not received all results, but oxygen level did go down to 76. That they did not like.
I created a card game for kids Humaliens
Like Pokemon and Yugioh. The whole game thing went belly for awhile. As my health diminished. I still have hopes to revive this brand I helped design. Check out http://www.humaliens.com for more fun.
