ANIMAL KINGDOM MASK ENTRIES FOR MASK DECORATION CONTEST
humor
Liam,
No way you need to apologize in any way.
I think you and Mikemoran realize what I am saying.
There is a wide gap in humor and silliness. Some do not get this.
I have lost my link to your blog and remember reading it at great length and especially reading between your lines.
You have an amazing and enviable ability to deal with some very deep issues in your life with levity and humor.
Johnathan Winters had this ability as many great humorists do.
Humor is deep seated and often the way we handle pain.
Silliniess comes from a much shallower level and is rarely funny, It is not even comedy, much less humor.
Many of the sitcoms are from this shallow level and entertain shallow minds in many cases.
Those who are attempting to equate the contest as humor are missing the point.
Moi arrogant? NAH. No Way.

Thanks for the kind words about my blog and my humor!tomjax wrote:I have lost my link to your blog and remember reading it at great length and especially reading between your lines.
I hope this reply doesn't come across as an attempt to sell something, but if you were asking for the link again, it's as http://liam-humor.blogspot.com (and it's entirely free).
I don't post as often as I used to, work's been a bear lately, but I still put the odd column up there, when I have the chance.
(I honestly don't know if I should post this or not, it does smack of "self promotion", but it's also a free link and my perception is that you were asking...)
Oh, and snoredog, just to be clear, while I very much appreciate that the moderators have, for the moment, made my book thread "sticky", it was as much a surprise to me as to anyone.
Liam.

I would like to add to this thread the following links to threads that discuss this issue. This contest is a fun way to deal with a very serious problem. Laughing at ourselves is a very legitimate and healthful way in which humans psychologically deal with painful experiences. (Please think of gallows humor in the medical profession, for just one example.) Laughing AT others is not acceptable.
Several people have expressed a hesitancy to expose themselves to a significant other while wearing a mask/interface. This arose from a thread that was posted by such a person.

Here is the original offshoot of the first thread:

Now that I hope the need for this contest is established, it has extended into the realm of just plain fun. Of course, what one does with the mask at home is too much information—but it might be an equally healthy coping mechanism. Besides, we are (hopefully) getting LOTS of ideas from this contest for Halloween.
Thank you for all of your input. Where were you folks when I was figuring out the organizational plan?
Seriously, as a professional organizer (teacher) of sorts for over 30+ years, I’ve learned a few things. I was a physical education teacher for most of those years AND by training, so if this organizational program at all reminds you of a tournament—you may be right.
I used the separate threads not to annoy anyone, but to keep the various categories easily separated. This is a time-honored way of organization, such as heats in a race or divisions in a dog show, etc.
The winners of each division will then be entered into another, final posting to determine the overall winner. This will be much easier to do with the various categories in separate postings, let alone making a poll to choose the winners.
Hey, I’m a volunteer organizer—drafted, at that--I don’t intend to go through the sorting process that would be required by doing one thread! That is a waste of time and effort on my part—but if anyone else would like to do such a form of sorting, I’ll gladly step aside.
Seriously, I thank you all for your interest and for keeping the Animal Kingdom thread up in the top of the forum threads. It hopefully is engendering more interest!
BTW, I’ve not even complained that y’all have highjacked the Animal Kingdom division into which I hope to enter something!
And, just for good measure:

So far I only see 2 posters who are unhappy about this. Should we have a vote on it? Should we all learn to just skip the posts that don't interest us? I doubt very much that these posts about the contest are harmful to the site, if they were you can be sure johnnygoodman would have jumped in already. I would rather see silly contests that may brighten someones day than read posts by people who have nothing better to do than ruin someone elses fun.
The posts on the mask contest are clearly marked...feel free to ignore them!

Hi,
This is my first post in this forum. I've been lurking for about two weeks.
This is by far the best forum out there. Having been on cpap for 15 years,
and quite out of touch on all the new products, this forum is great place for information. And made my new purchases effortless and I thank you all. As for wading through the mask decorating posts, I'd rather do that then wade through all porn posts on the other cpap forums. Glad to see some control of the spambots.

Welcome to the forum, Jim.
Wow, he had his equipment in his profile with his very first post. .. He's our kinda hosehead, y'all.

Re: contests
Nothing wrong with selling to your friends - that's what makes the economy go. Do you think we would rather buy from our enemies?Liam1965 wrote:

Why not just add a sticky to these contest entry threads so they are easily accessible (or ignored) right at the top? The contest only runs for a limited time so they could be removed at that time. This way those who want to add to them can easily do so, and those who don't can bypass them easily.
Seems simple enough?

That's a great suggestion. Like Mary said, if you want to read them go ahead. If not, don't bother.bookwrm63 wrote:Why not just add a sticky to these contest entry threads so they are easily accessible (or ignored) right at the top? Great idea, guys.
Any ideas on how to get the moderators to make the post directing one to the categories a sticky post? I haven't figured out how to do so.
I am not at all certain that a simple forum member is even allowed to make a sticky posting. For example, Liam had no idea that his book posting would be made sticky.
I am sending a PM to the moderators, but it is really up to them, isn't it?
