Mask Decorating Contest: A BOLD IDEA! Revisited

Post by birdshell » Sun Jan 21, 2007 11:03 pm

Dear Fellow Forum Folk:

Our fellow hosehead GoofyUT (aka Chuck) proposed a contest just after Thanksgiving. I was drafted to organize the contest. My life before Christmas was a little too hectic, so I am FINALLY getting to the subject at hand.

Chuck had very generously offered a new mask as a reward, but I believe that is not required. Hey, look at what excitement the original posting engendered, for example! I hope the thrill of victory will be enough, and that there will be no agony of defeat. I have had enough dealings with our Forum Folk to believe that every entry will be appreciated.

Rather than providing a mask, I propose that Chuck donate any funds that could have bought a mask to his current cause: preventing genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. These people need the money far more than any of us, I should think. Genocide surely trumps apnea any day.

Should you wish to read it, here is the link to the original posting:

For your consideration, here are the original categories suggested by Chuck. My additions are inside the parentheses and in brown:

GoofyUT wrote: We could have categories like:
FUNNIEST

PRETTIEST

SEXIEST (Let us keep our decorum intact!)

KINKY-EST (Uhh, PLEASE, TRULY, keep the decorum intact!)

MOST LIFE-LIKE (Ahhh, please consider the decorum needed for this category as if you were being judged on this by an elementary school teacher; which, I was.)

BEST CELEBRITY LOOK-A-LIKE (UTMOST decorum is required for this one, please.)

MOST CREATIVE; and

BEST MASK OVERALL!!!

<snip>

One requirement: THE MASK MUST BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL!!! No changes of its specifications that might compromise efficacy is permitted.

Please post any additional categories here, on this thread, so that we may all find them easily to consider them. Let’s add categories for a week, ending Sunday, January 28, 2007. Original discussion limited the entries to real masks that are working safely and effectively. Consideration might be given to durable, yet removable mask additions. (Of course, this is your choice—but what if you see a great idea in the contest that you wish to use on your mask?)

I know that we all will avoid entries that are too “ADULT” in honor of our sponsors, who should not have to censor any of our entries. This contest shouldn’t make anyone’s life or job harder, IMHO—just more fun.

So, for review:

RULES OF DECORATION:

1. Only photos pasted on the forum of 3-dimensional working mask entries will be considered.

2. Photos will be posted of an actual person wearing the mask AND added detail photos of features will help your entry to be appreciated.

3. Avoid digital enhancement of any kind to the mask. Some of us do not have the capability or knowledge for digital enhancement.

4. Decorated masks MUST be in perfect working condition, still providing correct xPAP treatment.

5. Have mask, will decorate: OR, enter as many times as you wish

6. Entries will be accepted and posted starting ONLY Monday, January 29, 2007. We may have a new category or two in which one may wish to compete!

6. Entries may be made until: Saturday, March 24, 2007.

7. Winners will be judged through polls posted here on the forum for one week, March 25-31, 2007.

Best wishes to all participants. Who will have more fun: those actually modifying their masks OR the rest of us, who will appreciate them?

Sincerely,
Karen

Mask Contest

Post by kteague » Mon Jan 22, 2007 12:23 am

Glad to see this idea revisited - it had crossed my mind recently and I wondered if it was still a "go". And your suggestion to allow the funds Chuck volunteered to spend on a mask to instead support the efforts in Darfur is perfect.

On the categories, it may be that some suggestions will overlap and could be combined. Too many categories may dilute the entry pool. Then maybe there could be a winner in each category, but have some awards that covered all categories. For instance, humor is is dicey because something that fit in the sexiest category may also be very funny. Ok, maybe I'm overthinking this.

My category idea is Animal Kingdom.

Kathy

She Who Must Be Obeyed has a great vested interest in this; go for it, Patrick. We would all benefit from ANY ideas!

Just remember I know how to contact her!

Best of luck to you,

Just for everyone's notice:

Patrick gave me the web site for his wife's business. I was teasing about contacting her!

Besides, I needed to say something in order to bump this up to the top.

Everyone is remarkably ready to accept the categories as listed. Are you folks normal? (Don't answer that one, please. )

I'm happy to add the category that Kathy (kteague) has proposed. Anyone else have anything to say?

Thanks,

Karen
