most certainly a desert
The arid part of Washington State has a beauty all its own. And hey, ya gotta admire any state that apparently let some rogue Oompa Loompas name its towns and valleys.

metal awnings
In my opinion, that sound is nothing like that from a roof. One is the sound of a teenage metal band practicing a bad riff; the other is Miles playing Kind of Blue.

It is most certainly a desert. I couldn't believe my eyes, because I was stationed at Lewis, but drove right through Snoqualmie and there was a freaking desert.
yup. it's right handy having that mountain range down the middle of the state. keeps the crazies away.

Nice house Zonker, glad it's finally coming together.
be nice when it's done, for sure. haven't seen you around here for awhile, it's good to know you didn't wonder off and get lost.

I have made it a point to hunt down and thank a number of my past teachers who made the most difference in my life. I was particularly glad I was able to find my high-school freshman-year English teacher (who also happened to be the football coach) to thank him face to face. We spent the entire freshman year diagramming sentences instead of following the approved curriculum. He knew he wouldn't be fired (it was a winning football team), and he knew it would change lives. It certainly made a positive difference in mine. I was glad I got to him to thank him before he died.

Great to see the pics, Zonker! Thanks a lot for sharing. Looks like everything is coming along really well. 👍 A lovely house in a peaceful place - can't hope for more than that.
Re: the issue of rain on the roof....You will lovvvve it. I'm not sure about the metal things you had on the house when you were younger, but there is nothing more relaxing than the sound of rain on a metal roof. I grew up in a house with that sort of roof, and it rarely rained where I grew up, but it was just so nice when it did. Let's put it this way....since you said it rains there for a lot of the year, I HOPE you like it. Really, though, I'm sure you will. It's especially great when you are going to sleep at night.
Hope you can move in by 1st Sept.. If not, I'm sure it won't be too much longer than that.
All the best, and continued good progress with the house.

There's not enough detail in the pic for me to mash it. I've got a lot of milage from your other pic, but I was hoping for a new one.

Zonker, what a gorgeous setting! I'll be rooting for you to have a weather-tight exterior before rainy season, even if there's a LITTLE more work left on the punch list. (My husband is a retired general contractor, so I have to say, there's ALWAYS a little more work left on the punch list.)
