The problem with this for me is that sometimes the SD card doesn't make it back to the machine. Happened twice this week.
That's aggravating - get up and go to grab the card and it ain't there. Go look at the laptop & there it still is from yesterday...

So now I have a little batch file that copies the card contents to a local folder on the laptop. This lets me import to SH from the local folder instead of the SD card. This way I only need the card in the PC long enough to copy the files and I can immediately eject & return it to the APAP. It also provides another backup copy of the data.

Now I just need to make it a habit that feels odd when I don't do it "by the numbers".

If you're not having a good time, *DO* something about it.

You only need the card in the computer during the import function in SH, which usually only takes a few seconds.

Also, SH makes a backup copy of the card, which is used if you ever select the 'data/rebuild' function, because SH does processing of the card data when it's imported, so that it can display the data faster when you're viewing it.

Only if something looks wrong, do I check SH.
I've got to work on this. SH is still a shiny new toy for me. I wake up, yank the SD card and drop it in my bathrobe pocket. Make cup of coffee and grab the laptop. Even when my AHI is < 1. Checking SH is becoming an obsession. Any tips besides self-discipline, which doesn't seem to be an option for me? :)

The problem with this for me is that sometimes the SD card doesn't make it back to the machine. Happened twice this week.
If you look at your AHI and leak level on the display as soon as you sit up on the edge of the bed, and it is acceptable, why even bother with SH? (I am assuming your machine settings have been optimized - lowest min pressure that achieves desired results.)

On the other hand, if SH is fun sport and you have the time, go at it.

Lessons learned: Take the card out of the computer after downloading it. Immediately set it on the keyboard. When I stand up, go put it in the cpap. Fool proof (or so you would think).
Another good suggestion. But you know, SH's friendly reminder notification when closing the software should be foolproof(or so you would think). Apparently there's no helping me. :)

You're still no understanding the real "inner me". Discipline required.

You're right of course. I do feel my settings are optimized (for side sleeping). Additionally I'm half way through a 30-day "no changes" evaluation of these settings. I have absolutely no reason to look. I guess you've nailed it with the "fun sport" thing. :)

put the card back in the machine *before* you let yourself look at the charts.
Discipline. :)

Or get one of the wifi SD cards, so you never take it out of the machine.
Now this is right up my alley, and a pretty "outside the box" solution IMO. In my mind these are for cameras, and while I know of them, I had them pigeon-holed. Never would have thought of them for this application. Thanks! I've just been reading how I can set it up, and it could definitely work. What I read for distance is "100 ft with no obstructions". This may be dicey. OK in the summer when I'm on the patio every morning-only obstruction would be a window. But in winter, I'll be in a bad spot for this. Need to do a little more research on range before taking the plunge.

I am pretty surprised that no one has said "Just put the card back when SH reminds you every time you close the software". Really, this should work too. But... discipline. :)

Cpapian - sorry I've hijacked your post and taken it OT. I sure do appreciate all of the tips I got!

I have a note in my nightstand that says, "SD Card". When I pull out the SD card, the note goes on the machine. If the note is still there at bedtime, it means the SD card is still in the laptop. KISS.

Another great tip. This is right up there with Susan's "leave the SD door open" on the list of things that I think would work for me. Although I would have to get the note out of the drawer... :)

Put a post it note on the power button of your machine whenever you take the card out. Then you will see it when you plan to go to bed and put the card back in.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Hmmm...I just can't resist. I have a fail proof method unique to "me". I too take out my SD card every day. Not necessary I know but it is now simply a HABIT. I've rarely forgotten to re-insert my card.

My reminder solution?: I have CPAP trained dogs. <laughing>

My CPAP and computer are on different floors. Once I remove the card in the morning, make coffee and stick the card in the computer, I am not going to negotiate stairs again simply to put it back in the CPAP. It stays in the computer all day. At night I make a final pass at the computer (check email, latest news, just browse etc....bad sleep hygiene I know...but oh well...it's HABIT). My dog(s) always nap in my computer room, one usually right beside me, another one right in the doorway.

When I close Sleepyhead, my computer makes a DING sound. When I pull out the card, it also makes a DING sound. This triggers my dog(s), who wake up, rise expectantly and move to the hallway knowing Mommy is going to bed and they want to follow me.

Sooooo, if I swivel in my chair to rise and go to bed, and in my sleepiness trip over a doggie, or if I make it to the doorway and have to step over a doggie or inveigle her to mooooove please, my brain registers "Hey! You haven't closed SH....Hey you haven't removed your card!"

If I get up out of my chair for any other reason such as getting water, going to the bathroom, etc. the doggies don't respond. It IS the DING that triggers them!

I must have DINGO DOGS!

(Not to worry....any future pups will likewise be conditioned/trained/ORDERED by me to perform the same service!)

Well it's been almost 3 weeks since I took this thread off-topic with my sd card problem. Since there were so many great tips to help me - I thought I'd let you know how it's been going - and how I've fixed my problem. So far anyways.

I ended up simply paying attention to SleepyHead's reminder. Instead of looking at it and thinking "yeah, yeah, yeah...what a nag" - I grab the SD card right then and put it back. Simple as that. Problem gone.

Turns out that whatever method you choose (could've been any of the suggestions I got), all it takes is a little... discipline.

If EPR is "dangerous," then why aren't Bilevel machines, which have the same mod only a wider gap, dangerous?
