Thank you mc, for your participation and reply- I am glad you feel comfortable to join the conversation If any other newer forum members would like to reply to the two original questions asked, please feel free to answer.mcpascalns wrote:I do not consider myself a seasoned forum member but would be glad to work with other members to find solutions to keep cpaptalk.com functioning without conflict. Sleep apnea is such a terrible malady and I wonder what is that inner driver for other forum members to attack others instead of being there to seek and help other sufferers?

Hi GB- these images are great Thank you! Member R1200ST had the idea of using an icon/ symbol of a troll for negative posts; think you can find a funny troll warning that might work also?GettingBetter wrote:
Okay, this is my contribution to the send the offender a nice cricket. I actually looked through Pakistani and Hindi Cricket internet comedy, but felt it was too violent (cricket bat humor) and maybe not for this audience, mostly because I didn't know what was offensive in Hindi anyway. So I put together the above plain cricket reminder that we all want the same thing, sleep.
Also - MY AHI WAS 0.89 LAST NIGHT!!! and I'm tooting my own cpap about it.
Awesome AHI- Congrats

There are times when seasoned members disagree.
A great example is Enchanter. Everyone thinks they are right, including Enchanter.
Who gets the crickets?
Who decides who gets shunned?

I don't know... what do you think? Do you think that what was said is helpful in any way; or someone who wants to just start a ruckus?

I am sure others have the same question.
I am concerned about our rights to freedom of speech.
I am also concerned about "shunning", that forum members will be shunned simply because they have a different view.

Re: PROPOSAL FOR ALL SEASONED MEMBERS:
By now it has become obvious to me... and I hope others that no one person or group of people can monitor an unmonitored message board. Everyone’s idea of inappropriate is different and everyone belongs to a different "Clique" of people which has a different standard or agenda.
Some members have a spam button, and can remove obvious spam. Beyond that think before you post.
I am sure there are many people that thing most of my posts are stupid and/or inappropriate, as I have some people that I think are nothing but trolls, (or are as dumb as a fence post, probably the result of OSA) . It is not my job to sensor those people, as it is not your job to sensor mine. If I post something that is defiantly wrong, I hope someone will post a correction, that is the reason that all helping should be done on the open forum, not in PM's.
If you want a monitored message board .... go there !

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

This board has been a big help to me in learning and adjusting to use CPAP faithfully. Thank you to everyone who writes helpfully.
We do all need to police ourselves and do our best not to offend others. Some days our skins are thicker or thinner than others, possibly due to whether or not we slept well, have had morning coffee, or fought with a spouse, etc.
Let's keep it going, please!!!!

Re: PROPOSAL FOR ALL SEASONED MEMBERS:

I've been on a few forums where the west was wild, but it wasn't a forum that offered some help to keep people using their medical equipment.
Some of the posts are getting really close to a Thunderdome (I love that movie) kind of set up on the forum. Seems pretty silly when everyone just wants a good nights sleep.
Re: PROPOSAL FOR ALL SEASONED MEMBERS:
Whoa!
This:
I guess crickets is similar to "Don't feed the troll" but done privately so the troll doesn't get the satisfaction of response.
The point is to support the attacked, not "police" the attacker.
This:
Signal the person being trolled, baited, attacked, etc. that the best defense is "crickets" (silence). The offending member is unlikely to be amenable to any suggestions to cool it.On 1... I agree to pming the member if they are attacked, but don't think it will do a bit of good to pm the offender.NOT this:. Do you agree to the use of 'crickets' as a means to signal a member that they may be offending to someone else
