Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I am taking one of those 'statin' drugs for cholestorol as a prophylactic I am told. I wake up aroused and ready to go and spend ten minutes chasing my wife around the bedroom until I catch her, by which time I have forgotten what the hell I was chasing her for anyway and go back to bed for a nap. Don't know where that falls into the study but if you have a 48D on your display please PM me your phone number.SleepingUgly wrote:How often do you wake up "refreshed"? Let's define "refreshed" as not at all tired, no desire to keep sleeping, and ready to start your day. Do not count insomnia, whereby you may wake up early in the morning, can't fall back asleep, but you did not get adequate sleep and could not make it through the day on that kind of sleep.
Personally, I'm sure I did wake up refreshed at one time in my life, but I have no memory of it, EVER, except briefly decades ago due to a medication side effect that unfortunately attenuated.

I always wake up refreshed, but only if I actually sleep, which doesn't seem to happen that often anymore.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I was told that the older I got the less I would find solid sleep. BS. I have started taking supplements: Magnesium Glycinate, Potassium Glucinate, Taurine and a few others and along with a chlonazepam on a stressful day I sleep so solidly that I awaken from PAIN from not budging an inch while sleeping. I can get 9 hours if I get to sleep by 10 but as soon as the sun hits the blinds, that's it for me.nobody wrote:I always wake up refreshed, but only if I actually sleep, which doesn't seem to happen that often anymore.
Good sleep hygiene is also essential. Nothing to eat after dinner. Nothing to drink after dinner and certainly nothing with caffeine nor artificial sweetener in it. Dark room. Slightly cooler than normal with a nice fluffly quilt. Dead quiet (you make a noise in the dark you are apt to get shot). To bed at the same time every night if possible. If a bedtime snack is necessary for diabetes try plain yoghurt and some berries that are easy to digest and will keep you regular and mitigate the gas forming in your intestines.
Sleep is an art that must be cultivated. Lord help the hapless soul in this house that creeps downstairs for a drink of water after midnight. I keep a .45 locked beside the bed make sure it's quiet. And NOBODY sleeps in. Messes up the plan.

I never do, I have never experienced that even after extended periods of excellent sleep hygiene.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
Over the past year, I've noted a couple factors. I am diabetic, so I appear to be sensitive to carbohydrates. The more I have before I sleep the less restful my sleep will be. Other diabetics might want to check to see if that is also a factor for you.
Additionally for me personally, my neurological issues includes "dysregulation" of sleep. My neurologist notes this is often a common problem if there are problems with the brain stem.
To help counter this, he prescribed the generic of Remeron. It is an antidepressant that as a side effect increases sleepiness. This seems to help keep me asleep and have better sleep. It's not perfect. But it seems to help.
So, maybe once a week I feel very rested. Often I awaken feeling miserable.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
John, I am insulin resistant (had gestational diabetes as recently as 8 years ago) and I also notice a difference in my sleep if I have too many carbs. I have RLS and it is much worse when I'm not careful. I take Gabapentin for the RLS. Requip and Mirapex didn't help. The Gaba helps to an extent but I still sometimes I wake up sore from all of the thrashing I do at night. I have lost quite a bit of weight but haven't noticed a difference with my sleep quality.
Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I put occasionally because its not normal to wake up raring to go.
That was the way I felt when I did not need medicine for aliments and was young. Now if I was going fishing that was a big deal and I looked forward to that or going on a vacation south during dead of winter. (Maybe looking forward to something is the perk of life?)

A 4-year old poll...maybe it'll catch on again? Not a bad poll question, though, kind of interesting. Except to goofproof, I'm sure *smile*.

I just voted on it too. Now even I feel refreshed and empowered. Everyone needs to vote and comment on all polls, much more refreshing than actually making your treatment work. I'm reborn again! Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I don't think the poll is supposed to refresh you (although I'm glad to hear that it did *smile*), the idea is to get a sense of how other people feel about their therapy. And if I'm not feeling refreshed when I wake up, and others are, maybe it gives me a little push to see if I can't improve my therapy.Goofproof wrote:I just voted on it too. Can I change my vote?
It improved over the last few years.

Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
These posts are discouraging for me, but time will tell. Fingers crossed I will feel better and wake refreshed. I begin therapy tomorrow or Friday. Trying to figure out my cpap settings since my machine just got here today.
Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
From the 1st time I wore the mask, haven't slept that good in years
Re: Poll: Do you wake up refreshed?
I wasn't diagnosed with sleep apnea, but I'm looking around to to see if indeed a CPAP would help for getting a more effective nights sleep and waking up refreshed. Seem to be getting mixed reports here....
