My sleep apnea cured?

Now that would have killed me much sooner than sleep apnea would have.

I agree that the OP would have been fortunate to find this site sooner... but he didn't... and hearing now about his "autopsy reports" doesn't make his situation any better. If he is still reading here, I do hope he realizes the importance of having a sleep study once he is healed.

I love the positive encouragement of this board when someone has the nerve to post that they had sleep apnea surgery, especially since it sounds like this person has tried many things, including pap therapy. Sheesh, if someone posted they had surgery after trying pap therapy for twenty years, you would condemn them to h-ll.

Do agree with the advice to get a sleep study to make sure the surgery was successful. Why anything else is necessary to add just is beyond me. CF, I normally greatly respect you as a poster but what you said was totally out of bounds.

We all know how poorly the "medical mafia" has been with helping users with their therapy. If this person had found this forum years ago and took control of their own therapy, they may have had a different outcome.
This person had surgery less than a month ago and has now proclaimed himself/herself to be "cured".
If they would have done some searching on this site, they may have been scared enough to make a better attempt with their CPAP therapy.
Sometimes reality can be brutal.
It's like Jack Nicholson's line from the movie "A Few Good Men".......that begins with "You want the TRUTH?.........."

And then there are other folks whose therapy is optimized who still struggle with pap therapy. They just don't post on this board for obvious reasons. There is no guarantee the OP would have succeeded if he had found this forum although I don't disagree his chances were pretty good. But he played the cards as best he could and I don't understand the harsh judgment. Maybe it isn't up to your standards but since when does this forum get to decide on who passes and who doesn't?

And what is wrong posting on this board about feeling you are cured from sleep apnea? Yes, it is premature but it sounds like after the struggle this person has been though, I can't say I blame him, especially if he feels so much better.

Again, why the anger and the harsh judgment?

Actually, I was just about to ask something similar in a different context.........
WHY would someone post on this sleep apnea CPAP help forum that they had UPPP surgery and now self-determined themselves to be "cured"???

Last I checked, we're all "adults" here.
Many of us have been in managerial positions and had to deal with "situations" (or confrontations) with subordinates and also with higher management. Those circumstances aren't always the kind where all involved wore "kid gloves".
I also suspect that many of the folks who get "offended" with being confronted with the truth and reality here, have also been in the position of having to discipline subordinates. They reply with variations of "How dare you speak to me like that?!?!" when they've probably been in the position of dishing it out themselves.

No anger, no harshness. Just the blunt truth in various ways.
To me, having "tact" is being able to tell someone to go to Hell and making them look forward to the trip.......

It is surprising that nobody mentioned this. Even light snoring is an indication that the airway "ain't right". And, with obstructive sleep apnea being a progressive condition, and the patient being age 39, he is likely to experience more severe problems as the years go by.

I hope the snoring he is experiencing is a result of swelling from the surgery, and that once he is healed from the surgery, his apnea is truly cured. But, I have my worries about his long term condition.

I did notice that statement, but considering his recent surgery, thought it may be what BS noted......as you pointed out.

I agree with the people not afraid to "speak the truth". In fact I did just that on a cancer forum the other day. This woman posted all excited "my surgery worked, they didn't find anything in the lymph nodes, I'm cancer free, I don't need chemo!". I asked her to post her obituary and told here "don't kid yourself, the cancer is going to be back in a year or two even if you can't handle the truth".

And I did that without even know whether she really was cured, without asking her any questions, without having any idea what her true prognosis was, or offering her any caring words of encouragement. Because, you know, I wanted her to know "the "truth". I just like being truthy.

People declaring themselves OSA free 3 weeks after surgery because they "feel" they sleep better are delusional and unfortunately have been had by some slick surgeon wanting to pay off his next BMW.
