New SWIFT FX--ANYONE using it yet?

One thing I noticed and maybe it's just me: the right flare seems to have slightly larger opening than the left flare. And the right side seems to 'leak' every once in a while??? I noticed it just last night and haven't had a chance to compare to the medium and large size pillows at home.

Anyone else notice the two flares are different diameters? Maybe just a bad mfg lot....


Hey dtsm, I noticed the same thing with my mask after reading your post. I looked at the large and small nose pieces and they were both the same. I use the Medium pillows like you, so after a little investigating, i noticed the inner bladder was stuck in, after playing around with the right pillow, i got it to pop back up and now both side are identical. I think it sounds like you have the same problem. Before doing that it seemed the right leaked due to the different diameters, but after fixing it, no leaks last night. Try to mess with the pillow to get the inner bladder to pop back into shape. Good Luck.

Sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone. The Swift LT line is hard to improve on. Yes, I understand innovation is a great thing but when you have a pillow system on the market that outperforms all others why mess with it.. Real innovation needs to be geared towards the ultimate Full Face where choices are slim and and seal/comfort hard to find, Keep in mind that DME's carrying a new line of pillows also have to carry extra inventory of replacement headgear and pillows for this new innovation which undermines their ability to maintain cost.. I'm on day 6 of Swift Fx and it's working fine. Only problem is my wife has an extra pillow between us to wall off the wind tunnel created by the exhalation port. Also means I sleep less on one side My DME gave me a Swift LT II which I tried but never got used to. Just bought the Swift LT from Linda and dying to see how it works compared to Fx.....

By the way, not sure if the post was an advertisement for the LT or the Tenn Vols? My bracket died with the KT loss but Go Butler

I've been using the Swift FX for about a week now and I have to say that I'm impressed. The only mask that I like better than Swift FX is the Aiomed Headrest (I'm probably spelling this wrong). Swift FX is a very close second and, for travel, it is way better as it folds up very compact.

I got one, and didn't have any luck at all with it the first night - it leaked badly every time I moved, and it sounded like I was in the flight path of a 747. I also felt like I couldn't breathe. I liked the nasal pillows on the Swift LT for Her so much, and I wish these were the same. I may try using this mask again, since I know one time is not a fair trial.

I'm so glad to hear that there are other mask addicts out there! I feared I was the only one who spent every spare nickel trying to find the perfect mask. Even though I mostly like nasal masks better than nasal pillows, my favorite mask is the AIOMED Headrest - there's nothing on your cheeks, the pillows are very soft and comfortable, and I almost feel like I don't have a mask on. I trade it off with the ComfortGel and Activa LT with the new GelCusion. I'm trying to look at all this as a new hobby.....so far, so good.

Just got one late last week, and now that I've had a few nights with it, I do have some comments:

- It is incredibly light and comfortable
- The cheek padding is a nice touch, and easy to remove for cleaning
- I've personally found disassembly and re-assembly to be very easy, making cleaning a breeze

The only issue I have had with it was that I started by using the wrong pillow size. Finally after 3 days using the Small , I went through all the pillows and found that the Large fits perfectly, and seems to have no leak issues (have to confirm this still), and is much more comfortable than the other sizes. Make sure you go through ALL the pillow sizes before complaining about fit. I would have never guessed that a large would be good for me, and based upon the guide and the videos a small looked perfect, and a medium was a close second. What I didn't get was that when I was looking in the mirror, I was drawing down my upper lip closing my nostrils, when flaring them (like with a deep breath through your nose) I saw that Large looked good, and after a night with it, my nose is back to normal, and I'm happy about sleeping better!

This is going to be my permanent (until something better comes along) mask!

Managed to pick up a Swift FX via auction (insurance doesn't cover CPAP), tried it out last night. Love the mask, but had leakage problems every time I moved. Re-adjusted fit this morning, and it seems much better now.

Which comes to my question, does anybody know the vent rate for the Swift FX? I know at my pressure (10), the Swift LT vented 31L/m, and was wondering what the FX vents.

RTFM! Checked the chart in the FX's User Guide, and near as I can figure, for 10 it should be 33l/m.

Also, am I correct in assuming that the leak data shown in Encore should have the vent rate subtracted from it to find the actual amount of leakage?

My average leak with the Swift LT seems to run between 32 and 35. I'm new at this, does anyone know if that's good/normal? With the Swift FX, it was 39.73. I'm assuming that will drop once the mask is adjusted properly.

An update, seems I've managed to get the fit adjusted properly, didn't notice any leaking last night. Will give it a few more nights, and check the data on the card (stupid machine only lists 7 and 30 day averages, like that does a lot of good...).

Checked via Encore Pro, leak last night was 31.82. Theoretically impossible, if the mask vents 33 l/m, but I'm assuming those vent rates are averages, and vary based on many possible conditions. At any rate, as I'm now below it, looks good!

I love my Swift FX, but I have a fitting issue. Does anyone find that the cheek straps ride very close to your eyes? Maybe I have a small face, but in order to adjust the back and top straps properly, I find the cheek straps almost touching my bottom eyelids.

I would try loosening the top silicone strap and rotating the entire headgear back and downwards. Then tighten the back velcro strap.

See if you can find a stable configuration.

Thanks, cobra. I'll watch that again to see if I missed anything. I also wear a PAPcap, which throws another variable in the mix.

I really love my FX, but it is not perfect (but very near to it)
Since the loops on the silicone portion of the headgear are so high, I'm working on a vetwrap mod to hold alternate oblong rings right below them so the back strap goes across my occiput, instead of above it, which I hope to be more secure.
As to the blast of cold air on my poor sweetie, I'm looking for a little quilt to spread across his back.
He's been so tolerant of my LOUD snoring for 42 years, how can I NOT try to make him comfy?

I find the Swift FX to be the most comfortable mask I have used so far. I keep trying other masks and coming back to it. I started with medium pillows, then went to large. Probably because the pillows are a little big, it works best for me with the straps fairly loose and far enough forward to almost touch my bottom eyelids. It took a while to get used to it, but now it does not bother me. But the loose straps make it pretty easy to induce a leak when I flop over in my sleep several times a night. I tried adjusting it a little farther back on my face, but that makes the mask less comfortable, and I get more leaks.

When I bought a Swift LT from a forum member, he included a PAPcap. (The LT puts too much pressure on my upper gum.) I tried wearing the FX over the PAPcap, with and without using velcro to secure the straps to the PAPcap. I even tried wearing it under the PAPcap. The PAPcap just doesn't seem to work well for me. What does work pretty well to keep it in place when I flop over is to wrap a strip of 2" or 3" wide self adhering elastic bandage (the stuff that only sticks to itself) around my head before I put the Swift FX mask on.
