I sent a message on the "Contact Us" page of the Respironics website. The check list of information you have to provide suggests that they're totally "provider-centric".

By the way, there is also a http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com.

I talked with a guy at http://www.YouNeedSleep.com the other day. His website says he has the software we want, just call. On the phone he said that Respironics doesn't want the software listed on the website, but that he can sell it. Price: $499. He also said that Respironics told him that he could burn a copy AT NO CHARGE for anyone who buys a machine from him. I didn't pursue it further, as I'm in no shape to buy another machine. Maybe someone else is close to making a decision.

BTW, I emailed the management here to let them know what I'd heard, but haven't gotten a response.

This is getting interesting.

I think you can consider him turned in. The Respironics folks who monitor this forum are probably shutting him down as we speak; not only because he's still selling the software, but because he's allegedly burning copies and giving them away for free to equipment buyers.

Sigh.... Another source bites the dust.

Yeah - Five bills is a definite rip off....
I think if enough of us write, call, email -- communicate -- with Respronics and express our displeasure something could happen.

I can see that the existing software isn't written for the "general public" but for clinics.
Ok. So write another interface. It's only a SQL DB, the outputs are defined by the "reports" made available.....I'm also investigating MyEncore, but that assumes you have the Encore Pro DB installed and working.

I like having control over my machine and prescription, though I make no changes without the doctors knowledge (I have a great doc; A very mediocre DME).
I'm sure the DME's don't like it because they don't get to bill a "service call".....too bad.

I'm also guessing that some Doc's whined that the patient was becoming too knowledgeable - what a concept - an educated patient!!

I feel the software being available is important in my overall treatment because I can directly monitor how I'm doing, have done so, and have consulted with the doc on making modifications, which she has agreed to and made..... (Now I'm fighting with the DME - but that's another thread)

Make noise - perhaps they'll grease a squeaky wheel.

cheers
gg

I think there's something wrong with the software, which is why Respironics is making such . . . . scheme and maneuver. Sooner or later, the public (most Respironic product users) and their competitors will find out!!!!

Actually, there may be something to this. Respironics put out Encore Pro 1.8i Release 2 on June 27, 2007. This is the version that DME's can download from Respironics website.

No indication of what is different about it.

software alternative

Post by phil1001 » Tue Jul 10, 2007 3:41 pm

For what its worth, IMHO the software and/or the reader are flaky. I have found the reader can be stabilized by making sure it is plugged in the USB on the PC and not a hub which does not provide a high enough voltage and if you try and erase the card it will trash it.

I do have a fix to repair most of the "trashed" cards that were caused by hub usage.

I am pretty close to finishing new software which will read the respironics card without needing their flaky software to be used. This is taking quite a while as respironics dont seem to willing in providing the card specs

Anyway - dont hold your breath - but stay tuned

Phil

Did you know about this thread:

viewtopic.php?p=189411#189411

Where LindyChris figured out a fix for the reader?

This could help you, it has helped several on the thread. I'm eager to see what else you have come up with!

@phil1001
I assumed that the problem with putting the reader on a hub was power, but it is not.
I have a very well powered hub that works with everything I have connected to it, _except_ the card reader.
Also of note: You must plug the reader into the same USB port every time, or it will not be recognized by Encore.
It looks like some sort of problem with how Windows enumerates the USB bus, and perhaps Encore only checks only the first branches of the USB tree, and expects the card reader to be in exactly the same space every time.
Not quite the way it was described in the USB standard.

But if it can be made to work, then it's better than nothing.
