Talk:Claustrophobia
Is that really the definition of claustrobia?
I always thought Claustrophobia meant fear of enclosed spaces, so I was a bit surprised to the opening text of this page.
After a bit of search I found the wikipedia entry that refines "fear of enclosed spaces" into the subtypes "fear of suffocation" and "fear of confinement".
I think the page as written is mostly "fear of suffocation", which might be the more common manifestation of this in CPAP users.
I think "fear of confinement" is probably what is meant by "mask claustrophobia".
I certainly have "fear of confinement" and will have a full blown panic attack in an enclosed space.
Occasionally I get it with a nasal mask, especially if I'm overly tired. It's very hard to wear the mask on nights that it happens.
I think the page should be edited to put the two subtypes on more equal footing instead of leading with "Claustrophobia is the fear of suffocation" which is not completely accurate. -- jointpain 03:49, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
